FDev, please come out and communicate your changes to us or else players will leave AGAIN!

Its like only a wizard at the company actually knows how colonization works. No wonder the communication people cant explain or give information about it.
2 weeks of different "fixes" that broke the system and all we have is a vague post with no information

You know, its a "beta", if something broke let us know,so we pause colonizing. And avoid spamming the forums and your support system with extra work.

I still think the whole "Beta" schtick is a ruse in the same way the "Alpha" for Odyssey was.

The Alpha was in reality a (premium funded) early access rollout to excuse the many bugs and missing features that were only added much later (such as FC interiors).

The Beta now is in reality a regular, rough around the edges content update for similar reasons other than it being free and apparently feature complete. The Betas that I'm used to for other games have much more regular patch cycles and also come with a decent summary of what the features are and how they work. Otherwise how do you test stuff.

Marketing bluster and gaslighting is all this is.

I've been perspiring in the temped boiling waters of malcontentment longer than I can remember and have forgotten where I am and how I got here. And yet something compelling remains. 🐸

Fdev stopped developing. I got bored with the game. I left. Life goes on. There are other games out there.
Fdev started up developing again. I came back cause game wasn't stagnant anymore! Play it now and then in solo.
Begging won't help, people wake up, fdev themselves wake up, things shift, despite how much fdev do rong they still do better than most big games companies. But no exuse to get lazy! Fdev could be doing a lot better.

But this might be pessimistic view of me but every time someone screams "people will leave" I imagine its cause they have a discord server and a player faction and desperately want to hoard members to do their bgs for them.

And honestly... the station building and ownership in elite is nowhere near as interesting as another space game's station building.
Not really, in my case, I don't have a player faction and the 'people will leave' concern is actually more of looking at the 'bigger picture' for the game. I want the game to succeed and when it does, players will come. If players leave, the game 'may' suffer for it (depending on how much of an exodus it is). I personally don't want the game to stop support or end up in a maintenance mode (or at the very least, I want to prolong the experience of new things to do as long as possible). For that to happen, we need to keep the momentum up with playerbase and usage - things that have been happening 'risk' things getting worse and I don't want that to happen.

So when 'I' say people will leave, what I'm really saying is - I am worried their approach to things is RISKING people leaving in the long run if they carry on like this. In my opinion, a simple communication on what to expect (simple mechanics of the functionality) is everything. Some people may claim they like to test and see for themselves, but there's only so much you can do before it becomes frustrating and we can see it happening right here on several threads.

So Frontier, please come out and give us more information on what is actually happening, is it intended, if it is, what is the functionality, what are the parameters so when we are testing this 'beta' we know what to expect. If we don't know what to expect, or at least, don't know when the goal posts are moved (and where they are moved to..) what is the point?

That's interesting and sad at the same time if this is the norm. I would have thought a lot of the efforts we make (some potentially in vain) could be avoided with very simple comms/feedback. Just feels like a lot of what we collectively talk about could easily be avoided but I guess if its the norm then it's just something I'll need to accept as the normal culture.
Hmm, I'm wondering the same thing. I've spent years gathering materials and building different modules on ships.
If I had been told back then that I could fill a full hold in 10 minutes (as it is now), would I have continued playing at that time or would I have taken a break for 10 years?

It's funny... for a long time I'd have agreed with you. If you put serious play time into Elite then it's almost impossible without external player created tools. I can't imagine playing without Inara, EDMC, and EDOMH. And none of those would exist without EDDN and Spansh.

So for a long time I though that was a weakness in FDev's approach. But now I think it's a strength.

I like that internal systems are mysterious and the community slowly figures it out over time. People create do research, create diagrams, build tools, etc. And a lot of that information is crowd sourced. One person finds out some detail, then someone else finds something, and then someone compiles all of that information into a useful tool.

It's actually helped build a lot of community which IMO is very cool.
I don't play with external tools and for me, it works perfectly fine.

Sure, I can't be as efficient, but that's fine. Being ultra efficient isn't always fun anyway.

I remember reading fdev said they were happy with the colony rollout and just wanted our feedback.
I also read they had a minor error rollout and since retracted it. The planets commodities influence thing.
Yup it's grindy, man l posted about that big time.
And I outsourced my tier lll construction. I'm loaded I cant be arsed.
Yup people will come. And they will go.
Nothing new there. Quite how fdev hope to retain a player base is way above my paygrade..
But l reckon they are making a killing with colony asset renames. So their happy l guess.
Will it change? I doubt it. We want it to change yes .. well some of us do. There's a hard-core that say we're just whining.
Perhaps that's true too. Idk im just playing a game here!
Bgs is broken. PP2.0 isn't 100% either.
And the micro stuttering grrrr.
Lots to digest. Lots to fix.
Or just stick head in the ground and ignore all. Nothing new there.
Be patient!
All will become clear...

I just think with regards to colonisation, FDev need a bit more of a disclaimer on the tiers. For example:

Tier 3- intended for player groups of minimum 10 players.

Tier 2- Completable by dedicated individuals, but recommend to be completed as a group effort.

Tier 1- Manageable by individual players or casual groups.

We live in a world where we have the "contents are hot" warnings on coffee after all.

The disabled stuff in PP, the stuttering and the lighting should be the priority, although my expectation is this will fall below development of vanguards, new ships and whatever new thing is happening at the end of the year.

Seems like a fair amount crammed in to be honest, so I hope that does leave them some time for a decent amount of post feedback bug squashing and system tweaking.
