FDev, please open direct interactive communication lines with us! Drag Munition situation proves this is needed.

Please, let's not derail the thread. This is not intended to be the place to suggest specific changes, but to open up a means to have such a dialogue with FDev.

If there's anything to discuss, please discuss how this dialogue could be established.

I thought the Focused Feedback section with it's special rules went in the right direction. I'd have liked to see an extra rule that each contributor only post once, but can edit the post as many times as they like to clarify their own point or proposal.

Naturally having requests for clarification regularly answered would have helped too.

I thought the way the exploration thread preceding the 3.3 beta was handled was appalling.

You are of course quite correct. But it's my opinion that the dialogue we have with Fdev right now is as good as it's ever going to get. Not that we can't aspire to a better standard, of course.

Strip engineering out of the game utterly. Done.

they're not going to throw out something they've put so mucb dev effort into so this is next best thing. keeps everybody at FDev happy and busy....AND they get to nerf things!

....or the PVP community just have a gentlemen's agreement excluding engineering mods from pvp. What with the pvp crowd being such a honorable wholesome bunch like Jason here who is 100% legit and I'm not being sarcastic, shouldn't be hard.

....and if someone does break the gentleman's agreement do what the Fuel Rats do. Go dead stick and let them kill you without fighting back.

Maybe fdev will chime in on this thread and give us their opinion on your idea

Signing my name here. I would like to see a PTU and it getting proper support when the community speaks up on issues. I'd also like to see Frontier communicate more closely with the community on issues. A simple "We're thinking about doing this. Please talk to us about how this will affect the game." would do.

Guess this was an idea of the old team, and no longer used after they left.
Whoever took over doesn't care enough.. ?

Maybe. There are lots of ways to cook an egg, Focused Feedback allowed for a wide range of views to be considered but tended to be dominated by a few highly opinionated contributors, hence my preference for each contributor to only have a single post, avoiding repetition from a small number being potentially misinterpreted as popular demand. It might help people to consolidate their own ideas and self-check for consistency too.

But ultimately the design decisions are not by democracy but autocracy, then and now, but currently (seemingly) without the benefit of the playerbase acting as devils advocate before release (without the downsides too of course).

What I've often proposed but never achieved is that Frontier talks to player groups that specialize in a particular game style for when anything is proposed that could potentially really change the balance of the game. Whether it is for PvP, BGS, PowerPlay, exploration, engineering, anti-xeno, botting, etc. Could be individual players too, that are known to specialize in certain things, so it doesn't have to be exclusive to groups. The reality is though that within player groups knowledge is grown quicker and shared quicker.

Just a sounding board, with NDA's if necessary, though ideally not, so there is no sense of favoritism. No decision power, but at least some feedback from people who know that particular aspect of the game really well.

It's grown into a pretty huge, complicated thing, this game. Hardly surprising that the people who made are kind of out of touch. Any parent will sympathise. So yeah, communication should be quite the nightmare. But not enough communication will see a chasm grow, so you just need to do it, Fdev...

I don't work on software made to order either, but rather an evolving enterprise platform. Back and forth communications with stakeholders is key to ensure we're working on the right things, and building them in ways that will help service the community.
In gamedev players are not stackholders, players are resources.

Unfortunately that's quite true with modern game development... :( One just needs to look at companies like EA.

I'm just hoping and asking for that to not be the case with Elite. I don't think they've treated us like that, there's just a gap in communication that can be fixed.

... for brevity's sake a lot of of well written, comprehensive and on target suggestions made to FD who seems hell bent on driving customers away deleted by WW13

Great job Hole in Head...
Seriously an impressive communication to FD.

Unfortunately the target of the post is not known for responding well to communications from those who should be listened to more than any other.

And so I find myself doing this:
