FDev please?

Tried my luck at brawling with settlement, turrets killed my ship in few seconds. If i'm supposed to use SRV for that then how do i supposed to even land on this rock? Turrets aggro range is even further than it's landable zone. I can understand that this settlement has powerful defenses, but using such weird terrains to make it absolutely impossible is really stupid.Link for screenshot

Tip: Missiles do splash damage, so are good for taking out hardpoints on ships and surface-based turrets and skimmers.

Edit: As @danubezoe points out via the vid, kinetic weapons work well too (multicannons, cannons, .. not so much frags perhaps but I haven't tried them)

I think it's hard to spot the problem in that screenshot - Are you attempting to damage the powergrid? I believe you can do that with your ship (mostly). Either way there are a couple (or more than a couple ) of helpful Youtube videos on the subject.
Maybe this is helpful?

I was attempting to just land near this settlement. I was searching for open symmetric keys. It doesn't matter now, but such weird things as settlements based on top of giant pillars is not okay

I found it quite awesome. I'm sure there is another settlement to satisfy your powercreep cravings.

There is a list of settlements that can be scanned, pretty easily (all the same layout), for data that may make life 'easier' for you... Below as a .pdf :) (it is safe, I just converted a text document so no links etc.)

Well for starters, what was your fitting?
Secondly, that's a +++ base; they are the toughest bases, so they'll always pack a punch.
Thirdly, well, 4 pips to sys, 2 pips to eng, ram down to the target, scan it then boost away. Don't faff around with the SRV or approaching casually.
Lastly, if they're really proving problematic, fit as many dumbfires as possible, learn where the powerplants are and knock them out, sorts out the turrets quick smart.

1) i know that unengineered dbs melts in seconds
2) i easily farmed in another +++ base without losing my srv ever
3) turrets melt your shields and hull much faster

My bad here... +++ refers to the size of the base.

# of +'s = Size of the base
Low/Med/High Security = Strength of Defences

I can imagine doing a Low security +++ in an unengineered DBS, but a High Security +++, yeah, you're going to melt.

Also, a tactic I only recently learned...

Silent Running. Smash into the target, come to a stop, engage silent running, scan it, boost away to 2-3km, disengage silent running.

  • You won't get pinged with a bounty for the scan
  • You won't gain aggro from turrets until you disable silent running

Pretty sure I was spotted when in SR (not all the time). Though that was against a particularly vicious installation. Maybe it's like ships sometimes 'see' you when in SR. I found the SR trick fun, but if stacking missions I find shield tanking more reliable, YMMV 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, i think it's the ships... and yeah... tanking up works best if you're stacking.
