Federal Assault ship vs Python

So watching some of the 1.4 beta testing the FAS looks like a bit of a beast. Straight out of the box an E-Spec FAS outperforms an A-Spec Python.

I mean. Wow!

Can you elaborate? I think the FAS is good and all but how is it outperforming an A-spec Python? PvE? PvP? What's going on there.

Hey, you can't just tease us with this, come on elaborate please. Can you you describe the FAS and explain blow by blow how it performs please? Also any ideas how much its going to cost?

cheers

The FAS is awesome but it would not stand up for long against a competently flown maxed out Python.

It simply doesnt have the shields to compete.

It can however do a runner because of its excellent speed and would certainly cause the Python to burn through a good deal of cells before it left the party.

Question. Is there any reason it shouldn't? Python is a multirole ship. The FAS im presuming is meant to be a pure combat ship isn't it?
He was talking about the whole multi role ships being better at combat because of SCB capacity where combat ships have less storage for them and usually losing the battle of attrition. But should a dedicated combat ship be better for combat, yeah.

It's better than python? Really? Lemme check hardpoints again... Two large and two medium? That's it?

Good point. So perhaps, SC Banks could be installed slightly differently, perhap only certain slots will take a SCB? That way pure combat ships could have plenty of SC Bank slots but very few general purpose slots? i.e. a normal slot could take any module but say a 'combat compartment' could only take things like SC Banks and other specifically combat related components?
.
That would restore the balance a bit on Combat Ships favour...because a combat ship should be better at combat (or at least equal) to a multirole ship.....?

Honestly I don't know a proper way to really change it to make every one happy. SCB are ok for pve I guess. PvP it makes for lackluster gameplay in a lot of peoples opinions. Some people like them for PvP since it stretches the encounters out a bit. Tons of threads on it and no one can really agree. I am washing my hands of it and not worrying about it anymore.

The FAS as the Gunship are good ships, but you will not use them in PVP when you are money wise able to fly a Python. The SCB difference is too big.

In PVP (especially wings) you will use more a panzer (Python, Conda) or a fast assault ship (Clipper, FdL). The new ship are something in between. But both have enough strong powerplant to handle the energy.

The shields of these federal ships actually seem bad, but their armor is good.
And the assault variant seems to out turn every other ship - so the few hard points are balanced to staying on target all the time.
Slap huge bulkheads and reinforcements on it and I don't know if you can carry enough shield cells to outlast this thing - especially when it abuses the high armor to ram through your shields before you recharge.

It goes back to the age old equation of more internals = more cells = more durability.

FAS is a million times more fun to fly than the Python though.

Im totally addicted to it already.

Compare boost speed and agility. Compare mass and thrusters. I'm thinking that they should be very similar but I've got top drawer thrusters on my Python and unloaded I can't get 350m/s boosted. The FAS can do better than this with E-Spec thrusters. I must be missing something.

it's clearly better for pvp, with a lot more speed/agility/acceleration

it's clearly not better for pve, with less firepower/shield/cargo
