Federation Rank

I’ve got the bit between my teeth to get a Vette. I’ve just got a Krait MkII to help me along. I’ve not got far to go as I am a Lieutenant so about three ranks to progress through. I decided on the Krait after searching Medium Ship Haulers. Forever I have been using the AspX but today I’m branching out. For some reason I don’t like the Pythons, no sane reason behind this other than they are too good and being a true Brit prefer the underdog. (Note I also dislike the Anaconda same reason)

What can I say the boost sound of the krait is very cool indeed and the cargo carrying ability is far better than the AspX so happy days ahead. Ive decided I am not doing any further engineering on any of the modules I will just reuse what’s already Engineeres from the AspX. That said once I get the Vette I’ll be engineering for quite sometime and may collect enough matts to do a few ships.

Roll on FC interiors and sorry for the console only players.

I have a Krait MkII as well, my fifth ship. I was considering a Python too but having faced them in battle I wanted something with more manoeuvrability.

I'm an Ensign so I have 1 more rank than you to get but I'm liking the look of the Corvette too, shame that navy missions are few and far between... Or I may choose the Anaconda next.

I am operating out of Ochiso doing data and delivery missions to Chakpa and back with the occasional multi-jump delivery mission.

The corvette is worth the wait :)
Although, the krait is also a beast for pve and mission running.

Also - it’s worth doing the guardian thing to add 10ly to the corvettes jump range. Makes it perfect for pve and bubble-running.

Take it from a someone who has reached Admiral and spent a lot of time in both the Krait Mk II and the Krait Phantom (mainly the latter which has been my current ship for the past few years). My brief time in the Federal Corvette was limited - for good reason. It was a beast. But a ponderous, lumbering beast. Unwieldy. Stick with one of the Kraits - whichever you prefer. You’ll appreciate them in hindsight if you go down the Corvette road.
Just my 2 Arx.

You’ve no idea ;)

Okay, it depends on your build and what you’ve already got but I remember the mats that were sunk into mine*, maybe I went with too many G5 HRPs as it felt like I scooped up every Core Dynamic in the Galaxy.

Unlike Cmdr Esteban I’ve always enjoyed its relatively good, for a big ship, manoeuvrability - with some judicious use of FA Off you can keep your weapons on target with ease on all but the fastest Vipers/Couriers, and then you only need to get them in your sights for a short time.

Enjoy it when you get there.

* I had three, all different builds, at one point - that was just daft.

Corvette is a good ship... WHEN ENGINEERED. I was very unimpressed with a generic A-rated build and quickly had it shot out from under me in a HazRES. Once you've done the rounds, however, it quickly becomes almost invincible for even average pilots. Weapon loadout is almost an after-thought once you get the shields and armor up to spec.

I think thats the reason for all the Corvette hate. It's either a disappointment in stock form and seen as over-rated, or once engineered it's so over powered that it's like pushing the EZ button. It's a great ship for clearing CZs or Pirate Overlord missions.. a slight overkill for a HazRES, like a sledgehammer on ants for anything else.

Like other ships, it has downsides. It's slow. You'll never chase anything down. In that respect, you'll have to let your opponent choose the time/place of engagement. Humans know this, and an intelligent one in a faster ship will give you problems, such as a proper alpha-strike FDL. This is not a ship for PvP.

It also has a HUGE hit box. Not much will miss you, and maneuvering to avoid getting hit is... almost futile. Thank the gods you have monster shields and can face tank if you want.

The large HP placement is awful. It's take practice to get it to fire with all your other weapons.

All that being said, it does work quite well in it's role as a space control ship ( it sits there and controls a set area ), and no ship is without flaws.

While I own, and still love my 'Vette, I really prefer my Vulture for "fun".

Ignore me if you know this. Rank is gained by doing missions for Minor Factions who support (in our case) “the” Federation. By taking these missions and by choosing those with high (two or more stars) Reputation you increase your rank progress. Once the progression has reached 100% then you get offered a Navy Mission that on completion will promote you to the next rank.

This is why I am at Ochosi and Chakpa both have Minor Fed factions and they offer missions between themselves - short runs. Just get a good Medium ship and go for it. There is loads of options from delivery, collection and data missions as well as being able to donate to add Rep.

As I say please ignore if you know this just trying to help a CMDR.

Just to add to this: the rank gains from doing further faction missions after you reached 100% are not lost, but are stored in the background for your next rank increase.

Yeah I'm 9% on the way to the next rank. I'll be an Ensign for ages now
