Unless I've missed it, we don't yet know what Guardian stuff must be handed in for the CG, do we? I'm having trouble deciding what ship to prepare for it.
Read will's post - talks about cargo & mats if I recall - so it will be cargo .... and mats. The two things they added in space...

Yes I noticed that. I'm just wondering if there will be some mats only available at the ruins or suchlike. I suppose for a CG one can always focus on the easier to find things.

I prepped a Phantom for this. 128t of cargo should do it, otherwise I might transfer the Python.
In the mean time I managed to park the Phantom at the Weap Guardian Site Synuefe EU-Q C21-10 which is rather close and doin some runs as I still have to unlock the turrets.

If (like in old style CG's) a contribution of 1 mat is equal to 1 commodity then you may find it quicker to fill up on limpets and a collector.

After spending 2 days maxing out all bar one of the guardian mats in the new USS's I noticed they were far quicker to stock up on than loading 2t at a time planet side or pirating convoys.

Of course it's entirely your choice how to play the game (plus FDev may make commodities have more weight per unit) but I feel that atm mats, not commodities, are where the players pumping the big numbers will be farming.

C&P from other topic.
Guardian material in space grind video examples for those not in systems yet (the faster more peple can do this the faster the CG completes from the 16th...)
You don't have to use SRV to get Guardian mats... Only data and blue prints need SRV..

In Guardian systems with "Out posts" ships are destroyed carrying Guardian mats to these outposts, this creates USS with Guardian mats with in USS of levels 0 and level 3...
Level 0 are currently more random and available less
Level 3 are normaly baited traps to try to kill you... If the security ships don't turn up in time you may have a real fight.. If your shields are light as possible for explorer builds you may even Die...
Ships in level 3 combat are random it could be Eagles, it could be a FDL with escort ships or if you get a realy bad draw an Anaconda may show up...

There is a long time when you jump in system were you have to find the right USS types.. This can mean using the FSS scanner... This section in the video is speeded up by times 8...
The ship in use is an phantom explorer build with the shield replaced to size 6, all the rest is low power and light, not a combat build...
( Building a krait mark 2 combat build with SLF for Thursday mega ship jump)
There is no requirement to jump all the way out. the mid point system they added thursday has the same USS'es...
Have fun if you join the grind...

Shame I missed the Battle for Lugh - that sounded fascinating. thanks for the link/reply :)

The thing about the Lugh CG, was that they actually created a couple of unique "scenarios" (before actual scenarios existed) as USS's you could drop into.
As opposed to almost every CG since, where they just say "Pick stuff up from anywhere, and drop it here" or "Shoot any old wanted ship anywhere, then drop off bonds" or even WORSE "Find ANY exploration data, from anywhere in the galaxy, and then just turn it in here"

has anyone tried stealing Guardian Data from the installation? it has Hackable, whatever it's called, transmitters?

Might be worth a try, done stealthily of course. The cargo bays don't have much yet, but perhaps there is Guardian Data to hack?

I'd be surprised if scanning a human installation gave guardian data just because of the region of space it's located in.

The USS's with the mats in are (I believe) destroyed vessels that were carrying guardian tech to the outpost for research purposes which makes sense.

Alien data from a human installation....... I'm struggling with that one sorry, but feel free to prove me wrong ;)

Currently in target system. Some observations

I hopped out to the target system in a multi-purpose MkII (SLF, guns, cargo, FSD boost, SRV, collector, scoop etc) in the understanding that we'd have to fight for our cargo/mat collecting. Dropped into a few USS's, both threat 0 and 3, and didn't find much consistency with either dropped stuff or competition. Ironically I ran into a few system faction (Zende) ships which were wanted and kept interdicting me (they died and my rep suffered) for my cargo.

The Guardian ruins have plenty of landing space nearby, so ferrying those pesky 2 cargo back to the ship wasn't too bad. Plenty of mats for gathering too. The Outpost is in a low orbit, so it doesn't take long to unload your cargo there. Outpost has Outfitting and Black Market.

The planet has a lot of geological and biological sites too. Perfect as I needed to top-up my raw materials.

One thing which you could help a Guardian noob on - how is the Guardian site orb activated (ie to get blueprint etc)? I figured out the pylons but couldn't finish the job. Does it need some sort of key or device to unlock?

you need an ancient key - either from looting a convoy or (easier) a nearby Guardian Beacon - check in Synuefe QA-E b45-4

It's a Vessel Blueprint site, you have to get the key from a space Guardian Structure.
If you want Weapon Blueprints, check this - the system is like one explorer jump away

edit: what @Factabulous said

And yes, the bio sites on the planet are really nice. Upped my Tin reserves from 22 to over 100 :)

Do you? Like to see pics of that, all I ever see is boring stuff.

Yep, absolutely, 100% certain. Have only visited the Installation once so far (with my xbox cmdr). manifest scanned both cargo hatches and was an orb, a relic and couple of others. Maybe fdev pulled some levers today, or I was just incredibly lucky! I will definitely get screenshots next time and share them here. FYI, was no active Scenarios there either - I wonder if there are.... yet?
