Fer de lance and expected python nerf

I honestly have no clue why people grind. I get why people bounty hunt, pirate, trade, explore or even mine. I don't understand minmax grinding. From what I gather in this topic the people who do grind don't know either, and they do not appear to be very happy.

It is a very strange world we live in...

Not so strange if you give it some though. It's the same reason as why you go to work and grind money, even if it's unpleasant, or why you do sports like fitness or running : for the joy and feeling of accomplishment that comes afterwards.

You know what the deal is... The Python is a fighter.. I could care less what the lore says.. the producers knew the lore better than anyone here and still released it, I know what I spent 180,000,000 credits on. If the ship went through beta and was released, price set, capabilities known and approved, why change it now after I paid for it. That's like owning a toyota and getting mad because I beat you with a Corvette and complaining to the US Congress to force Chevy to limit the Corvettes throttle....

But that's cool I'll find some Ex-Python owners and start killing anything on signt for no reason.. I'll give you a reason to complain.. I'm done with this subject

letz team up then......i´m with you. letz just kill anything passing by for pure joy.....oh a python.....*laugh*.....2 vultures closing in, making it pew pew boom in 30 seconds while your m8 in the ASP masslocks it......

People grind to reach a goal they feel is worth the time invested, obviously. Certainly not for the fun of it. Using myself as an example, I decided to put the time in and get to the 'Python Level' as soon as I could. I had a Viper (and later a Cobra) on the side for bounty hunting and pirating when the trade runs threatened to drive me insane with boredom, but otherwise I kept my head down and worked towards my goal.

Now that I reached it (not kitted out mind you, just the base model and maybe 20 mil in upgrades), I find its effectiveness and thus its appeal has been reduced to that of an Asp at BEST. That is a huge disappointment, and obviously others feel the same way.

On top of that, what point is there running trade routes and earning up cash without something BETTER to buy? Trade your way to Elite only to sit on a billion credits and cruise around in a 3 mil viper? Why ever bother to go past the Asp if everything above it is just another trade vessel? "Bigger Trade Ship = More Credits = Bigger Trade Ship, Etc." Nerfs like this and normalization in general literally trivializes a large part of the game into complete pointlessness. An Elite Trader tag will simply mean a player chose to waste a huge amount of time to fly the same cheap ships :-/

I have a Python pretty well kitted out right now (worth about 100 mill), and it's so obvious to me that it needed a nerf. Frankly, at this rate if it remained unnerfed, eventually everyone would just be using pythons. Now we'll actually see a little diversity, and I'm interested in taking my Python out to a combat zone after the nerf. Flying large ships should require a lot of skill, and if the worst comes to past, just boost away, spam chaff + shield cells and jump out. Nothing that can mass lock you will be faster than a Python post nerf anyway (Max boost of about 320 ish).

actually flying a big, slow ship requires not more skill...but a different one.
i know it, i'm a fan of bigger ships ;)
you need to know how to move them in combat. i'm not good at twitch based combat, have no good aim.
but but sitting in an Anaconda, getting that viper in front of you for some seconds... fun ;)

No, i don't fly a Conda at the moment, stop looking for me ;)

Killing everything on sight for the heck of it sounds like a ton of fun. Might be what I need to keep me playing when there will be no better ships to work towards.

well my name in game is Mongo The Mangler... clearly from day one I wasn't going to be a trader... 300,000,000cr later I'm ready to live up to my name.. So if you see me coming you better run or be ready to fight..

I actually like my job and I only play sports I enjoy while playing. Grinding to most is not fun, it is a means to an end. I simply can't do that: sit behind a PC and do something I'd rather not do.

Look, I really hope FD adds dedicated battleships for you guys. Until they arrive you can even keep the current python as far as I am concerned. But all these people here saying they hated the dozens or hundreds of hours of grinding, it just blows my mind. If someone spend so much time at a game not having fun, somehow, somewhere something is messed up.

My advice: figure out what you want to do. Look at what you ship you need for it. Play. Repeat when required.

if you are looking for action, do what i did in beta:
make a thread that you are looking for commanders to fight/train with.
tell where you are and when (ingame time).
stay where you are, keep the thread alive and make sure that if someone is interested, you are there.

had a lot of fun this way... but also some surprises like packs coming in.

may take a while untill it works... but there are always Commanders around that will have a go at it.
maybe even me would join in...

So at the moment viper/cobra owners complaining about not being able to take down a python, but only a player python, perhaps it's due to them being able to take down an npc python relatively easily that they expect a player controlled one to be as easy.

May be the AI needs to be made smarter so that the npc pythons are not so easy targets.

Or we have all player pythons target player vipers/cobras on site, they'll have something worthwhile to complain about then.

How many cobra/viper would be needed to take down 3 or 4 weaponised pythons in a wing I wonder.

The price is not that bad because your earning capability goes up with along with the expenses...

I'm glad you said you were about to buy one because in my eyes the very comment I quoted is a big misconception and vastly overlooked by people who do not own a Python (yet?). As you will soon notice, prices get real.

On a decent 10k/t/h route :

1°)
Let's consider a CMDR in Python (w/ 268T Cargo)

A 100M Python : 5M rebuy cost, will demand 2 hours of trades to secure rebuy cost.
A 250M Python : 12,5M rebuy cost, will demand 5 hours of trades to secure rebuy cost.

Then, hull repair and fuel (but there are ways around that one).

2°)
Let's consider a CMDR in Cobra (w/ 40T Cargo).

A 10M Cobra : 500k rebuy cost, will demand 1h15m of trades to secure rebuy cost.
A 20M Cobra : 1M rebuy cost, will demand 2h30m of trades to secure rebuy cost.

3°)
Let's pretend the two CMDRS had a Lakon on the side, to help securing the rebuy cost faster.

T9 for Python CMDR : T9 would secure a 250M Python rebuy cost in 2,5 hours (roughly).
T6 for Cobra CMDR : T6 would secure a 20M Cobra rebuy cost in 1hour (roughly).

Sounds a bit more reasonable, but now let's look at the time it would take each CMDR to acquire his respective Lakon.
Python CMDR would need 50 hours to earn ~120M for the T9.
Cobra CMDR would need 5 hours to earn ~2M for the T6.

Edit :
I first did some dumb mistakes in rebuy costs, so had to edit that out. Now... it's not as bad as I thought it would have been. Roughly twice the time to secure "the" rebuy cost. Comparatively speaking, the difference does sound fair~ish. Now in the absolute, 5 hours just to secure a rebuy cost... ouch.

Hmmm !

Yes, I do wonder whether this thread might have gone a bit smoother if everyone realised that the ship was introduced literally 2 months ago, and that this is probably the first opportunity the devs have had to give it a non-urgent rebalancing pass.

Probably, to be honest. At least I would have reacted differently, I think.

Sound advice, I'm going on vacation soon, some island my lady wants to go to, when I get back I hope the new ships will be here.. sale the Python or ... naa sell it, I got enough junk I don't use train with it for a bit... then it's on and popp'n

It is the mmo mentality where grinding=uber gear for roflstomping noobs. Some here even openly said an expensive ship should compensate for player skill. I played a lot so I should win. That kind of mentality.

Ah well. I have changed my mind a little though: the nerf should not effect iceyjones. His heartbreaking tale of how he did not sit on his butt melts even the iciest of hearts.

Right on. The amusing part is when they talk about "grinding" and "working hard" for video game pixels. Even better when they bust out false equivalence and scream "Just make all the ships the same!"

I've yet to "grind" or "work hard" for a moment in Elite. It's a video game. I work at my job, I play video games for fun. If you aren't having fun playing a video game, you should do something else.

really, it works.
many people are looking for PvP...real PvP. Not poppin' haulers.

and i wish nice days for you and your lady ;)

Hopefully make a python land on large pads and reset the maneuverability to 4, maybe 3 that would be a believable ship. It's guns, armor, shields, mass and turn like a eagle? Utter nonsense. A pvp'r wet dream as it is.

no it isn't.
a true PvP'r would never be able to afford it ;)

I can't believe you guys suddenly decided to act all cool and detached, just when I dropped my (arguable) numbers bomb.

Oh well... maybe for the better. Good night, CMDRS.
