I purchased a FDL shortly after buying this game, and for whatever reason, I was put off by the offset seating and the fact that I couldn't a-rate the ship right from the get-go. Today, I decided to give it another go, so I sold the FAS and bought a FDL. A-rated everything important, outfitted her with 4 class 2 MCs and a huge beam underneath. Put two point defense up top and two on the bottom just for good measure.
Maybe it was because the first time I didn't have my TrackIR like I do now, but for whatever reason, I like her. The offset seating is taking a bit to get used to with regard to lining things up, but it's tolerable. Love the interior. It doesn't look like some beat up POS like my AspE does on the inside.
DISCLAIMER: I play solo PVE only, and am currently only rated Expert, Tycoon, and Pathfinder so I am not seeing the maxed out ships an Elite rated player would. Which is a good thing as I'm still learning how to fly and fight at the same time.
Anyway, I went looking for a haz res close by but could only find a high res. Dove in hoping to find a few ships to try one-on-one before all the little green dots show up and kill everything. Took on two clippers, two pythons, a FAS, a FGS, a AspE, and a Vulture. Basically anything that flew up to me and scanned me (and was wanted) I opened up on. Worst damage to me was they managed to get through the first two rings of my shields. I basically put 2.5 pips to sys and weps and one to engines. When I got a break I would put 4 pips to sys to help shield regen but I don't know if that helps or not. I know these are not real powerful ships I went up against compared to what some of you go against in PVP, but the FDL is not like any ship I've owned previously. I don't bounty hunt, but I can see why people who do like this ship.
Fast, agile, and decently armed. I think I'll be keeping this one for a while. Need to give her a coat of paint though.
