Ships Fer-de-Lance Fer-de-Lance Owner's Club

Ahah! - actually it turns out my controls were set to "Custom" instead of "Default" - which is perfect for my Xbox One controller (Elite, of course.)

And - not really FDL related, but it's the ship that took me from Competent to Elite (mostly at least).

The thermal resistance is really low TBH typically 55 - 60% is what you aim for with bi-weave thermal resistant G5 shields and G5 resistance boosters, the defence tab in Coriolis displays damage taken to shields as opposed to damage reduction displayed in current ship defence, I reckon you'll have issues with laser armed opponents.

Here's my current build

Yeah you're right need to improve the resistance. I've currently ran only for more shield power. It work quite well tbh. The current setup just eats through condas like butter. Never had my shields down in haz res zones.

Changed the loadout a bit. Placed a huge plasma acc under my belly and exchanged two multis with 2 beams. It's a bit nasty to aim with the bellygun but it works.

Hi just brought a FDL but for some reason I cannot fit it with class 5 Shields ?
Error module excesses mass ?
I am running Elite dangerous 1.6
Anyone else

All the builds I have seen show A class which I did until it came to shields.
Then no shield generator would fit in the class 5 slot.
I fitted a module kit in that slot instead.
Have they nerfed the ship in the last upgrade ?

Are you sure there's not a shield already installed on another slot? As you can only have one shield on a ship, that's the only thing I can think of.

My shieldless Cobra laughs in the face of death that is the FDL!

Stealth engaged... "You can't catch me!"

You're right it does come fitted with a class 4E shield as stock so if Col dog still has that fitted a higher class (5) shield won't install in the class 5 slot.

I know its a pain, if you could list some of the engineering upgrades that would be great. I am having problems understanding how to take down shields of the bigger ships in PVP without using G5 Cascade Torps. Getting a bit tired of being bullied by corvette griefers as I run a PVE multi-cannon build on my FDL (its all G5 OC with only the huge as corrosive). I run when I can but it does not always work out .

I have been working on my engineering unlocks and I just need to unlock Lori.

For PVP builds on the FDL is it better to have G5 clean drives or dirty ? I know the dirty drives give better straight line speed but I would imagine in the FDL the clean drives give better close combat turning and straight line speed is not really a priority ?

Dirty always. Just, dirty as good as you can roll it. Then worry about shields. As to knocking down the shields of a pvp corvette, well... you'll likely want to have a wing for that if you're in any med ship.

As Ozram said... dirty is always going to be better (unless you are way too heavy, or severely heat challenged).

Clean tuning is for ships carrying really heavy cargo loads that push their mass up above optimal, or for those who want to reduce their heat.

As a jeep owner I always have a thing to try and save heat! So unless I'm going to rip roaring performance I plug in clean drive first. Often I find that clean drives give me enough of a performance boost. But then again I'm not super competitive so ymmv!
