Finally triple elite - three SLF pilots want to sit

Frontier, I really want to utilize the three additional seats on my imperal Cutter for my crew.

The way it's made ATM, using those 3 pilots together would drain your combat rank though :D

Crew could be really improved, but sadly they forgot they exist in the first place.

Such a shame we cant use the AI (crew) like you can in the X series of games like X4.
I would really like to have a fleet of ships deploying from my carrier.
The trouble with that is it would make it seem like we were important, which is only true in real life not in the game.

Hi All :)

Even a NMS like system where you send them off on missions.
Yeah, I was thinking about the same kinda thing last night.
Surface mining for Painite & Tritium. With my finger pressing the fire button (twin long range mining lasers) each asteroid taking between 1 minute to several minutes
I swap over to my mouse button which is also mapped out to fire main weapons, I rest a weight on to the button and sit back until the asteroid is depleted.🤪

In the X series (I haven't played X4) you can just send a dedicated mining ship out with instructions to mine certain materials until the ships hold is full....while you attend to other parts of the game.
It just strikes me that pressing and holding a joystick or mouse button for several minutes is not really an intuitive or interesting game action?....Far better to have one of your npc crew do that function I would have thought, taking a ship from your Carrier to perform that scenario.🤷‍♂️

The game is what it is, but better more interesting ways of using your npc crew, especially in this instance would imho be a far more interesting and logical game action, and in a sense more constructive?
Ah well,

Jack :)

If I am playing with Multicrew I can launch probably three SLF at the same time. Currently I just tried with 2 friends or 1 friend and a NPC. Up to three additional people give me up to three pips more.

There's really no real excuse why the seats are empty. They could do even nothing and take "care for communication tasks" or whatever non relevant tasks.

IMHO it's just lazy not to have them in the cockpit.

I personally would love that. Being able to have a Wing of MY ships following me around would be cool. I'm sure it could be implemented, the AI piloting is already there for NPC's of course, but it would potentially upset the balance. Still, if someone has to fork out FOUR rebuys if things go horribly wrong...that'd hurt a bit more. Even more so if ships not flown by the player had higher insurance costs (not heavily discounted like player insurance) paid up-front perhaps.

I was pottering around in a Cobra Mk III last night, doing random things and some combat. It was fun. I then fired up X4 for a bit and just relaxed, standing on the Bridge of one of my larger ships while other ships in my fleet went about their assigned tasks. I move past the personal combat stage of the game - aside from boarding prep - quite early-on in X4. So, I really do love the idea of being able to put my Crew in Elite Dangerous to use flying other ships of mine.

Now, to hopefully keep with the spirit of the game, I'd limit Crew-controlled ships to have to be with the Player in their wing. No sending off a Mining ship to gather stuff and either have it succeed or die off-screen based on RNG background sim. It should all happen in the player's instance. So, the player could be escorting their AI-piloted cargo ship while they sit in a fighter, or the other way around. I'd like that gameplay, I wonder if the current AI code would be any good at it?

Yes. What kind of world is it without grind (sarcasm).
Good point, well presented.

ED is a massive grind, so I advocate for fast ways of getting stuff. It can take thousands of hours to do all the things in the game. NMS is a bit different. After 200hrs, you're waiting for the next update to get something worthwhile to do, so I don't recommend shortcuts in it. It depends on what you want and how much you want to play.

Jokes aside, very impressive, Darth! I trained just one of these back in the day. Long grind, my respect. I support a notion of experimenting with AI, companions - it will enrich this, mostly, single player game. However there is danger, which goes along the lines of overpowering individual commanders beyond reason. I can see many AI helpers here and there, like hiring miners for our carriers and such. Bartender to keep extra stocks. Give them character. An army of combat bots at your fingertips though? Hmm..

I wasn't focussed on pushing them to Elite or even grinding. I just did what made fun, mostly all aspects of Elite Dangerous. Supporting the Imperator and the Legion results quite often in wars or hunting down deserters, venerable generals or pirate lords. So one after another became Elite in all that years. And for the time they don't take 3 times 10% from my income when they aren't on board of my ship everything is fine . . .

I can't understand why you need three, when you can only use one at a time. I've had three different Elite crew in my main account, but not at the same time. The first got blown up by a commander. You lost them in those days. I retired the second when she earned a billion, and I kept the third, who has now earned 40 billion and still doesn't want to retire. She was harmless and jobless when I found her and she still had the cheek to charge me a 15,000cr sign-up fee. The first two got their rank in the high RES, which is the fastest way, and the present one did her apprentiship killing Scouts when they were ranked Elite, which was a bit faster, but isn't anymore. I've got a 4th Elite crew in my second account, who got it incidentally while doing pirate massacre missions.

I cringe at the thought of 3 NPC crew. I would be 120 billion down instead of 40 bil. I've already prepared my grave and it has a big space in there to burry all my money with me. It would look a bit weird half-empty and people might get the impression that I was a pauper.

The crew GUI has three slots for three NPCs.
It even supports three active slots.
I have three additional seats on my bridge.
They seats are empty currently.
I have hope that Frontier does care about their game and it's possibilities.
I need to get rid of 30% of my regular credits income because I am not Jeff Bezos, I pay my tax happily.

At least 6 good reasons to keep the three on the list. ;)

Reasons, but not good reasons. If you want to fill the seats, you could have 2 harmless and one elite crew, which would take a lot less money from you for the same effect. what are you going to do when eventually we'll be able to buy an entire star system for 500 bil, which is what i'm saving for, when Frontier care about their game? That's a bit of grind you'll have to do - only 499 bil to go!

The first four reasons are the same thing and the last one is bad because you could give the money to some deserving cause, like Cats Protection League, rather than the tax man.

In summary, I rate that one bad, one meh and one cloud cookoo land, so 1/2 a good reason, not 6.

no, because Frontier has put more thoughts into it and you get benefits according the rank. Having 3 SLF Elite pilots launched make you having your own Star Destroyer.

You're right. But regarding the snail-ish development speed up till now I would have even with my rare play time at the time of implementation too much money for my own Star System, Deathstars 1, 2 and 3, Panther Clipper, orbital station and planetary station. I want to avoid the constant crash to desktop because of the overflow of the 8 bit variables most of the game consists of.

I swear it's all dudes finding out about their female side with ED's NPCs. Today he Duncan - tomorrow he'll ask you to call him Loretta.

This really could be an ARX goldmine, where we buy outfits for our NPCs just so they look pretty on the bridge. ARX for NPC voicepacks. ARX for NPC bridge walking animations. Oh well.
