Horizons Finding Phantom Outposts

Hi All,

I am quite prepared to believe this is down to me but recently I had a mission that asked me to deliver goods to an station called Howards Vision in HIP 107362. So I duly pulled up the system map, no Howards Vision as an orbiting stations, so I assumed it was a planetary outpost somewhere in the system. Some of the planets in the system had planetary data looked at it no outposts so I assumed it was on one of the planets that didnt have planetary data available took the misssion and set off. On arrival I visited each of the planets with no data, did a detailed surface scan followed by a close approach and inspection .... no outpost. There are three asteroid belts in the system (yeah by now I was getting concerned) visited them all no Howards Vision. Long and short spent an hour looking for this damn outpost with zero clues, mission failed and to add insult to injury I got fined.

My question, simple has anybody else had this kind of problem? Is there any standard equipment or procedure to finding these phantom stations? or is it possible the mission was just bugged?

thanks

You'll want either an intermediate or advanced discovery scanner in those situations. If you check in the map before take-off for that mission, see if you can peg it as your destination. If it doesn't show up (or you can't "look" at the system), trying buying the data. If that's not available either one of those scanners (or scanning a nav near the star) should put it on your map. I've had this happen to me as well.

The point is, this has been a long-running issue that has been around since the mission was introduced in beta at about 1.5 or 1.6, I think .... and still no hint in the message that you may need to scan or purchase data for the system.

It trips up a lot of commanders - did me, once early on .... and who knows how many are silently ranting about it without recourse to the forum?

Hi All,

Thanks for replies so to recap.

1. I did buy all the system information I could buy but some planets do not have it for sale of the ones I bouight no "Howards Vision"
2. Pantast that database you mention is kind of useless, it confirms there is a Howards Vision but doesnt tell you where it is. Some additional information like its on Planet E4 would be useful
3. I approached the 4 planets I could not buy data for, scanned using my advanced discovery scanner no luck
4. I did not try the Nav Beacon scan

Hey Ho but thanks anyway

Once you used your Advanced Discovery Scanner .... which you do as soon as you enter the system .... you should find the planet where the mission completes in the system map ... with a yellow marker. Target it and fly there. You will find the starport or base as you get close, if not in the system map.

If it is not marked, it's a bug.

If you have a mission there, it will show in your nav panel with a globe icon on it, even if it says "unexplored". That's all you need. But if you want the names scan the nav beacon by dropping into it and targeting it from your contacts panel. Point your ship at it and it will scan.

If it happens that you have to travel to a starport on an unexplored planet, you will first have to scan the planet in order to lock onto the starport. You do this by selecting the planet (or moon) either in the system map or the left hand panel and then point your ship at it. After the scan is complete, you can lock the starport and fly towards it.

Btw: my first post was not intended to show you how to do it, but instead to proof that the station is there.
