If they did that then they could also implement artifical gravity.... but that has never been part of the elite universe.

The only thing NOT within the laws of physics, as they are currently understood, in the game is the ability to travel faster than light and to make the jumps between stars. But without that there is no game.... the design of the space stations is based on physical laws, so why not communications. Finding a method of communication that is consistent with the rest of the game preserves the sense of immersion, which is of huge importance to a lot of forum members, judging by the number of posts about it.

Actually, faster than lightspeed electronic communication is already implemented in the game.
The Bulletin Boards and Galactic Market would never be able to stay updated otherwise.

Fines Problem

While testing in Jameson Memorial Station I went out and hit a cop ooops to get a bounty/fine on my head after a few run ins with the local security forces
re-docked to pay off fine to find out I cannot its not allowing me to.

If the fine becomes a bounty you can't pay it off anymore, there's a 7 days cool-down instead.

What you can do is buy a sidewinder, and kill yourself, should clear the bounty.

Is it a bounty or a fine? They are different, and have different rules. Fines can be paid off, bounties cannot (for 7 days).

LOL... Great if some pilots weren't psychotic enough, I think this suicidal behavior should be fined ...:D

That's why I find the whole system of speed limit and fines a real pain. It makes all the players pay because of a few pilots who abuse game mechanics :\

I totally agree something should be done but it feels like we're all getting punished for the actions of a few people.

I would like to see the details of a fine

I have picked up 2 fines in what little time I have played the Beta and do not know what they are for. As I have only been trying out mining I expect they may have been speeding fines which I picked up in the station but I have no way of checking this.

Can we add the detail of the infraction onto the fine details?

Speeding fines? Can't we opt to go for the Space Pilots Awareness Course instead?

Largest fine?

What is the largest single fine you have had?

I just got 123.000cr+ fine for docking at an independent military outpost. In an Empire system.

1st time I have ever been scanned at an outpost, although, it could have been a local security ship, doing the scan. I wasn't really paying much attention, as my ship was just about on the pad, auto-docking. I think the main mistake, was taking off the D/scanner. I needed the slot; and so I could only see the name of the station, not the faction, until touch-down.

Mind you; I was carrying 30tons of Imperial slaves; but 123.000cr? Whoosh.

Arry.

a little over 1 million credits.. each time i got caught.. it happened twice trying to smuggle a T7 full of imperial slaves.. hahaha, trying to not get caught is a huge thrill..

I was recently getting pirated by someone, but I managed to get away with severe hull damage and I was happy thinking that my ~30,000 repair cost was probably less than his fine for firing on me while being witnessed by station security. Then there was that moment when I got back to the station and realised I got a 1,000,000 credit fine for carrying imperial slaves which would be far more than his fine for pirating me :(

The largest fine I got was from a PIRATE! I was carrying Imperial Slaves (to a station prepared to buy them on the open market) when I got interdicted by a courteous Player Pirate. After we parted (me giving up 11T) I got into the station, and sold off the cargo. I checked in Contacts to find I had a fine of 1.15Mcr! (I did report it), but that did irritate me. Fines from approved authority vessels, ok, but not by others vessels, let alone pirates!

thats interesting you should get fined in that instance??

Question.. the place where you were pirated.. were the imperial slaves prohibited goods??

im wondering if you were pirated in another system... and not the system where you sold the goods

I was pirated in my destination system, and only scanned by the pirate. My route is one hop each way, cargo is legitimate at the stations at both ends (only illicit when in SC), and even when I was scanned at the destination station at other times I did not get fined.

TBH I believe thats what happened to me, I assumed station security scanned me, but I thought I was too far away from them anyway so I was kind of shocked. Could it be that a pirate scanning you can result in you getting fined for illegal goods?

im wondering if there are various minor factions (aligned with major factions) controlling that system and likewise with the ports... having seen the word illicit pop up in supercruise suggests the majority of the minor factions within that system are Federation controlled, although the station where legal trade occurs might be empire controlled..

this im guessing would occur in multiple port systems with multiple major factions vying for system control

it could also just be a bug lol

[v1.3.0] Paying Fines

Impact on game: Medium
Version Found: PC v1.3
Frequency: 100%
Time and date: June 6th, 16:34
Commander name: CMDR DRACGAR
Description: Have sneaked into Meredith City to pay off a fine from the Green Party of LFT926 in the LFT926 system, however the option is not there to pay off this fine. States No Outstanding Fines but i am showing as Wanted in this system?

are we no longer allowed to pay off any outstanding fines to clear our names?

Patch Notes :

Updated bounty system
Bounties cannot be paid off (Pilot's Fed contact is gone!), but expire after 7 days.
Major factions don't record crimes anymore, only minor factions. (You may have major faction stuff in your saves left over from the previous system).
Fines now take 7 days to expire, but never coexist with bounties (bounties absorb fines and dormant bounties with the same faction).
Expiry only actually happens when you login, hyperspace or resurrect. (This stops cases of "I attacked a wanted ship that had no bounty a few seconds ago")
Friendly fire values relaxed
