Stupidity Tax.. not a fine in the common sense, but it still cost me. Net assets dropped from 159 million to 138 million.
.
Moved up into the big leagues and bought a T-9 ! Hoo-ray ! Was moving lots of cargo, making lots of money. Found a good 3 jump route, 1100 credits per ton one way, 750 the other. Until last night when I got interdicted by an NPC Dangerous Python. A Patreus pawn in Hudsons control system. Couldn't fight, got mass locked, and basically sat there while my puny turrets did a whole lot of nothing. Pythons can mass lock a loaded out T-9 ? I thought only 'condas could do that ?
.
Re-buy screen. I DID have insurance ( I'm not that dumb ). PP and T-9s don't mix, IMO. Your chances of interdiction go up like crazy. Not only do other factions want you, but the usual pirates as well. I can't see it working, especially with a dangerous combat rating, since interdicting ships are much more dangerous lately.
.
So, I re-bought with Insurance ( 11 million ), lost the cargo ( 450+ tons @7500 per ton, 3.5 million ), and sold the thing to re-buy my beloved Python. Another 7 million loss between modules I couldn't downgrade and the hull. Pretty much wiped any trading profits I made. Note that doesn't include the money I lost selling the original python.
.
Not going to rage-quit, blame FD and game mechanics, or generally complain. This one was all on me. Should have thought it thru and dropped out of PP before buying a T-9. BUT, Let me serve as a warning to other CMDRs : DO NOT ATTEMPT TRADING WITH PP.

A T9 (and every other ship) can high wake out of any situation once the FSD cooldown is over. Just saying buddy, I fly a shieldless T9 through Anarchy space hauling 9 million worth of cargo, loadout is two beams/two missile racks and a Torpedo launcher. NPC's should be a non issue - Have been interdicted about 30 times in the last week, only time I have needed to run was against an Elite Conda, 90 million in profit in the bank.

Only time high waking is a 100% necessity is when the triangle icon is hollow

I'm guessing you had the smallest shields possible or none at all? The reason i say this is because with good shields and chaff, you should always be able to get away from any NPC. I'm thinking greed got the best of you. I remember rolling with no shields (chaff only) with my type-7 to maximize cargo space and 99% of the time i could get away and never had an issue.. its that 1% thats a real b$tch.

I did a similar thing btw... sold my Python to buy Anaconda and almost instantly regretted it. Python is the best ship in the game! Dont ever sell it! Its probably also the best trading ship. I make about the same credits/hr with my Python as i do with Conda (6m/hr vs 7m/hr) and have a lot more fun doing it as it can land on outposts.

Also getting a 3 jump route (6 jumps return trip) for 1850 credits per ton is terrible. Unless you have an issue with Slavery (substitute Palladium if you do), it should be double that.. I'm getting 3800 on a 2 jump route (4 jump return).

Regarding the mass lock, it doesn't make much sense. Really, a T9 (especially if it's loaded down) should mass lock any other ship in the game. If there was any way to make mass lock values look at the actual mass of the ship in question, it would make more sense.

If they ever add Frame Shift Inhibitors, then it would be worthwhile to bring a heavily loaded T9 or Anaconda to get you 2000 tonnes worth of Mass Lock + Inhibitor amount.

Honest question, this whole mass lock thing is something that has never made sense to me. I keep hearing people say 'It's called mass lock for a reason' yet the mass lock light never comes on, The mass of the ship seems to have nothing to do with it (including increasing mass with cargo) & the actual message says Frame shift inhibited by factor of <num>

So where did the whole mass lock thing come from? Only time I have been mass locked is by a station or asteroid field.

Cheers

Part of the explanation for the Frame Shift Drive is that mass interferes with the formation of the Witchspace field. Small masses (the size of ships) interfere partially with the formation of the field, delaying its formation. Large masses (stations and large bodies) completely inhibit the field, preventing you to shift into Witchspace, and dropping you out of it completely if you get too close.

Brilliant! I log on to find I've been fined 60K at Shinrarta. I think it was for smuggling, definitely not killing people because I do not do that.

With my Cobra being used at the moment, and my lovely shaped Asp sitting in Shinrarta, I cannot retrieve it. I can't play now for 6 days now.

This game is REALLY STARTING TO... ***ANNOY ME***
</PrincessRant>

I'll be fine soon. Rage rant over. See you all soon.

But before I delete the game until I re-install when I cool down next week, there's definitely no way to pay these off right? Just visited another station and there's no way to pay it off.

If only I actually knew what I was doing in the game.

No, a fine is not the same as a bounty, and you should not be wanted. Are you sure you are? You can pay the fine off whenever you choose. If you let the fine sit for a period, it may have turned into a bounty, that's the only thing I can think of.

You can actually still dock at Jameson Memorial, even if you're wanted, just have to make sure you're not scanned on the way in or out.

Fines and bounties are minor faction issued, so you can only ever pay them off at the system / station where you got them. Bounties can only be paid off once they expire at which time they turn into a legacy fine.

Ah, thanks, you've given me faith.

I've checked and it is a FINE. So I will try and do a sneak-run with my silent running and pay it off. This is actually really exciting!

FULLY expecting to get blown to pieces.

Never seen a red station before, and it being Shinrarta... Makes me feel naughty...

Glad it worked out. Not sure you'd have been shot at for a fine, but if the station was showing as hostile to you, then caution was a very good idea. :)

You won't get shot for having a fine. So long as you're not wanted, you're good. If you see a big red "WANTED" thing at the bottom right UI window, you might want to consider docking at outposts.

I beg to differ gents/ladies/aliens/[insert favourite political correctness term here], I had ~60K fine with the Pilot's Federation @Shinrarta, the station was red and when I turned up everybody (well, the feds) went red and started shooting me. I assumed it was because it was a super-expensive fine. It was definitely NOT a bounty, I double checked.

Yes, if the station and ships go red, then you are likely hostile to a faction, and they will potentially start shooting at you, indeed, they did! You can check your standing, and find out who you are hostile to in the right hand HUD panel.

It's possible I suppose that if you were only neutral before that a 60k fine might turn you hostile.

Mmm. I used to be friendly with the Pilot's Federation, then I think I went to Unfriendly. It was all a bit of a blur actually.

Only adds to my feeling of being a 'cash' Founder - daddy was rich and I only got to be a Founder not through guile, cleverness or deft piloting skills, rather a bank balance ;)

Does anyone else wish the fines page would let you select them so that you can see what the fuss is all about? Seems iff you can see a list of fines but not recall your misdeeds.

Problem for me is I might go weeks without playing it... Then things change... And you (well, I) get stung.

Either way, all sorted now - thanks, you've saved me a week of no-Elite now I can go get my Asp again. Having said that, not ever having bought any 'modern' games before, recently purchased the following: Sail Boat Simulator (it's NOT open-ended!), Rift (WWII clone), GTA Vice city and Quake 4.

Rep fo both for saving me (form myself!) :)
