As the le states 1.9 million fine for a single delivery of illegal cargo. I've gotten some expensive fines in the past but nothing even close to a million.

I imagine this is part of the 1.4 update? Sure is expensive.. I'll have to think twice next time i consider breaking the law XD

You bad little boy lol

If you get fined while smuggling you're doing it wrong :D

Too true!!

OP ... just suck it up, pay the fine and keep smuggling.

In my experience, the fine is the same as the profit on the "cargo", so you only need 1 more run to cover the fine.

Haha i was a bad little boy and got spanked XD

I strangely like the fact the fine is so huge in v1.4, now there is something at stake. Before you paid your 100k fine and were on your way. Now that the fine is bigger than your profit it gives you something to think about.

I first thought, oh well got scanned (Im shaking in my boots) how much this time? 190k ahh np, then i looked a bit closer and noticed there was an extra zero in the number. Then my "ahh np" turned into "ohh s%$t" Wiped the grin off my face real quick.

Bizarre thing is the fine is always slightly less than your profit... Not so much a fine, more a case of bribe the cops to let you go.

My haul was worth 2.5 mill, the fine was 2.3 mill :/ That's more Mafia cartel style.. Pretty much sums up the crazy legal system in ED.

Or you cargo had a higher value, elsewhere?

Hmm.. if it rolls over into a bounty of the same size, i smell exploitalicious. Local bounties though are meant to be capped at a million.... assumning the cap is obeyed for expired fines.

You can only ever claim a million of the bounty regardless of how big it is. At best you could exploit 1M credits per week this way, significant to some, but not really. I've taken down assassination targets that between the KWS and mission payout were worth that much and my combat rank was only expert or master.

There really isn't a consequence to not paying it though. You can keep on going down that same exact trade route, in a week it'll be a bounty, a week later it'll be gone. All you have to do is avoid getting scanned, which is what you're already doing as a smuggler.

Not gone. It'll be a legacy fine. I'm not quite sure what that'll mean if they get another fine--it might go straight to bounty the next time you get caught there with illegal goods, I'm not sure. Better check it in an expendable ship before you risk getting shot down by the station in your Conda or T9.

You'll have to pay it off if you get blown up and respawn in the jurisdiction where you have a legacy fine, otherwise it's of no consequence.

Bug or feature - getting fines for illegal cargo without a scan

Heya - I've tried twice in a row now while exiting a station to get a fine for illegal cargo. But I never see the scan message. I just get the fine when a couple of clicks out from the station. Anyone know what that is all about?

How to locate where to pay fine off?

On my travels I acquired a 200CR fine for reckless flying whilst leaving a station through the letter box.

It was a couple of days ago and I can't remember which system it was in. My Transactions tab just says the fine is in "GOLD UNIVERSAL CO".

How do I find out which system to go to to pay the fine off? Searching the Galaxy map for "GOLD UNIVERSAL CO" doesn't return anything.

I wouldn't worry about it, if you don't go back to wherever that was in the next 4.5 days it will vanish. If you do, it's a fine, not a bounty.

You're never gonna find out where it originated. You'll simply have to accept your new criminal role, hounded by the authorities wherever you go, unable to rest without keeping one eye open for the stealthy approach of the space-ninjas hunting you forever and the space-bailiffs demanding their 200cr PLUS INTEREST.

I've sometimes ended up with bounties I couldn't collect because I've not collected them before leaving the system and then I've forgotten which system a particular faction was in.

I did put a suggestion in to have galaxy map marker for unclaimed bounties, like we do for missions, ships etc. Not much interest was shown.

excellent suggestion Tony

I don't see any real problem with that..... you should be able to toggle that option on/off, just like the other markers, for those wanting a uncluttered map

Thrudds trading tool website has a search facility and that has a "faction" search option - it didn't work for me for the OP's faction but it did work for some local ones I knew so maybe the faction is over 150ly from me. It is worth a try although the max range from a "starting location" is 150ly - it should work, assuming the system that the fine was issued has an entry in thrudds.
