First bad press coming starting to arrive!

The first bad pass is starting to show up. It's going to get a lot worse over the coming few weeks and I hope frontier pay for their lack of integrity here. Your customers don't work for you and we are not a free Q/A team.

I'm a developer and this sort of behavior is disgusting where developers favor investors over customers. This product was not ready for launch, they knew it but launched it anyway for the financials and expected us to be free Q/A to work for free. You guys who are reporting bugs are working for free, most people get paid to do that, as that's a JOB. In summary they cyberpunk'd us. I'm all for forgiveness and moving forward but not without first repentance or an understanding of why what they did was wrong.

I don't think it does favour investors (the OWNERS of the company) over customers: I think the investors are also getting screwed over.

The reputation hit from this release is going to damage shareholder value. Calling it a "release" now (rather than releasing an open beta and not annoying a player base which is pretty damned devoted) damages the company's value. Bad customer experiences like this, and bad reviews, and reputational damage is bad news to shareholders as much as it is to the people who bought the product and regret doing so, as it will hurt future sales. Those bad reviews will still be there this time next year, tainting the game on Steam and discouraging people from buying the game.

What Frontier have done has pleased no one apart from perhaps some upper management who can tick a box in the company report.

Yeah, this launch should've been a beta or an 'early access'... or not happened quite yet at all, but frankly, if you find yourself fuming, remember for next time, because there WILL be a next time: don't get caught up in hype, never buy pre-releases, and read honest reviews before buying.

Early access, easy patch delivery, among other things, have led to the situation where launching games in beta shape (or worse) is, in the end, accepted by users and more importantly the publishers, shareholders, etc, who are the ones ultimately making the call. Even cyberpunk 2077 (execs) have zero regrets, even if the Devs are all crying in shame.

There's nothing subjective about changing that UI so that things take 2x-3x more actions - you simply don't do that. It's a complete failure to follow basic UX 101 principles.

Aesthetics are indeed subjective - but things like outfitting appears to be close to unusable now.

Also - LOL at pretending Odyssey is some hugely ambitious release. They tacked on a mediocre FPS with a bunch of generic missions.

I can think of dozens and dozens of games that are much more ambitious than Odyssey. To be fair the initial BGS/galaxy generation in ED was/is fairly ambitious - and that remains, along with the ships/flight model, the most impressive part of ED... it's IMO why many of us still find the game compelling despite some of the other more mediocre content.

I'm glad to see that people are taking this in a reasoned and balanced way - hmmmmm.

It's almost like there isn't a global pandemic going on. Every company on the planet has had to make huge changes and concessions to work within the laws to look after their staff while maintaining a working business. And none more so than businesses based in the UK. I think this post is utterly insulting to the efforts they have gone to to deliver Odyssey during these unprecedented times.

I was an original Kickstarter backer. I haven't played the game in 2 years. Last night I really had good fun playing this and was enjoying all the things that have changes and been improved since my last visit. I feel like the game is engaging me more and I have reason to stick around. Yes it crashed, yes I had issues logging in, yes some quests were annoyingly buggy. I turned it off and went and did something else and came back later.

Lets face, you aren't a developer. You are a wannabe developer. Any real developer of any worth and with ANY integrity would completely understand the pressures the Frontier team would be under to deliver this product under the current situation and also the passion they put into their work.

I like the new UI.

Of course it's a huge change for what we had previously, so it will take some getting used to, but that's no reason to hate it.

You can do everything you were doing on the old one, except it's better organised... so really, what do people don't like about it except the fact they have to get their muscle memory up to date ?
Show me how to plot a route to your bookmarked home station without entering the system menu. Please and thank you. Also, I'd like to know what engineered effects are on my weapons before fitting them. Maybe you can help.

yes i have last night to fun in the Game but many others no the have Problems and for the problems there get no infos if there have infos all okay but noting comes.

It also doesn’t detract from the fact there’s a bunch of people on this forum who at the end of Alpha were all declaring doom and are now acting as if the issues we have now were unexpected.

Didn't help that they were repeatedly told they were wrong on the forum and their concerns were unfounded. That Frontier had said there will be new planetary tech, optimisations and we had been playing an entirely different branch to a supposedly far better developed product... Only to find that none of that ever materialised.

Both of these are things that need to be added back in, definitely and that's not including the ability to view stored modules when browsing for modules to transfer into an existing slot (which we could do in alpha, albeit with a workaround but that's now all gone completely in live). I still prefer most of the new layouts for UI though. If they just fix some of the most glaring ommissions then I think it's better.

It's not as though the original UI was a work of art.
