First come, first served

Ok, another 300M/h skimmer related thread.

Few days ago we all saw threads with guides on how to get rich fast using recent skimmer missions. Today I watched Obsidian's Ant video and those missions were removed "for investigation". I won't lie, wanted to run it myself to boost my balance a bit so I could try few things that I cannot due to lack of necessary credit amounts. But swift FDEVs reaction made it non issue.

But there are CMDRs who took massive advantage from it. Hearing from those honest it's pretty common that av. net was around 2 BILLION. Now, that cash would set me for a while and I could focus on actually playing the game as I want instead of ever putting my plans on hold and focusing on tedious credit earning.

Since FDEVs removed that skimmer missions I wonder what they will do about all that billions that were made from it before their action. I'm not seeking retribution toward those who made those billions. Their wealth, ability to buy and outfit anything far superior to what i have doesn't affect me as I play mostly solo. Their gain is not my loss (can't say that for those PvPers).

But question remains, although it's not an easy one: will FDEVs take actions toward those billions? They clearly stated that earning that amounts of credits are wrong. So all those billions were earned due to system error.

I realize that with above question I stir a hornet's nest. CMDRs are somewhat divided when it comes to credits. Some say they are irrelevant (mostly those who have abundant amounts of credits themselves and for them they ARE irrelevant; or those who found their niche and don't have reasons to get large amounts of credits). Other say credits are scarce to get while prices are absurd and those who have credits have advantage over those who don't have them. And quickly getting billions create unfair advantage.

I don't want to cause another forum war. I think we should plea FDEVs to give us plain and simple answer about credits, their role, availability and expected earning amounts. Current system is flawed, lack of solid info doesn't help and "skimmer-gate" situations spread confusion.

I believe current situation with that alrge credit influx due to bugged mission system is a good reason to "force" some community-developers talk.

They said pretty much straight away that credits made during Volyboom weren't going to be taken back.

They didn't take back Rhea, Smeaton, Quince et al credits, so why should they start doing it now?

From the relevant thread, posted by one of the community folk:

After a careful review of the situation, we have decided to allow the rewards earned to be kept by participants and we'll not be removing them at this time (similarly to Sothis, Quince, and Smeaton).

would be nice if we would get some good paying CG's going.. ones that are worth it..
Would be nice if being in top 10 of some (fully complete) trade CG gave a bilion or a half. It might actually motivate me to try istead of usual 3 cutterloads => "good enough".

Since FDEVs removed that skimmer missions I wonder what they will do about all that billions that were made from it before their action.

Ironically, they'd already started doing something about it with 3.0, but no one seems have realised. They're called "Technology Brokers" and they provide access to shiny new toys, but they don't want your credits, no matter how many billions you have. Expect more new game features to be reliant on alternate economies, like materials. (IMHO the reason FDev removed those skimmer missions so fast was not really because of the credits, but becuase they provided a very time efficient way to farm G5 mats).

Yup, I finished up with three full bins each of MEF and two other G5 mats. Two bins of each went to the trader and I still have 100 left over to use

...........and there it is!!!

Why do you need all of that "stuff" in the first place? Surely it's fun collecting all of those materials or, like me you decided to grab it all whilst you can. I only did a couple of runs but my thoughts were, "give me that rare material that'll otherwise take endless hours of randomness or boredom to get :)" Fill your boots whilst you can, then play the game and enjoy. YES, I do enjoy the game [heart]

Obviously there are polarising views on this, just my take.

FD almost never takes away what people gain from such exploits, for the most part. That engineer exploit is I think the only exepction so far. Which is why I don't understand why people are getting so aggressive and toxic, FD is far nicer then most devs.

Which might be the problem tough, give someone a finger and they take the hand. Could be part of other problems too like combat logging, being nice isn't always the best thing to do.

The credit exploits were with regular game mechanics though. People didn't find a bug and abused it like they did with the engineering exploit.

I didn't bother with the skimmer mission credit farm because I was more focused on getting materials at Dav's Hope and the crashed Anaconda at Orrere. The materials and such are the more valuable thing right now but I already have a A-rated combat Anaconda and a A-rated combat trading Clipper and other several ships along with 1 billion credits so I don't exactly need credits right now. Though that of course will change when I can buy the Federal Corvette and A-rate it.

Yep. Once again, I'm penalized for not joining the bandwagon. Players got rich, the missions got hammered, and now the gap between me and the top is even wider than before. I'm really tired of being punished for doing the "right" thing.

Funny thing is those Skimmer missions were also the best way to farm materials/data (MEF - Biotech - EFC).

Good afternoon, Commanders.

Thank you for your patience during our investigations into this issue. We have identified a fix and expect it to be fully implemented within the next few weeks. After a careful review of the situation, we have decided to allow the rewards earned to be kept by participants and we'll not be removing them at this time (similarly to Sothis, Quince, and Smeaton).

In regards to ‘mission board flipping,’ we've taken on your feedback and the team are looking into how we can improve the mission board. However, we want to do this in a fair and balanced way, and as soon as we have any more information on this we’ll let you know.

Regarding other bugs or issues that have been highlighted in this thread, the Beyond series of updates is set to address many of these concerns and we will have more information, including dedicated feedback forums and live streams, in the coming months.

Thank you.
