First real exploration run

So I'm a filthy casual solo player. First test run after months of lurking, reading, flying, etc was out to Coal Sack. Got back, changed some stuff, let an engineer tinker with my FSD and am now about 4,000 LY out from the bubble. Seeing some neat stuff as I head towards NGC 6357. Just crossed the Sagittarius Gap (at a great height) with no difficulty though I could have seen it being a little tougher with less jump range.

The original plan is (was?) NGC 6357 then back to the bubble.

Question is, I know that once I get to NGC 6357, I'll be close to 10k LY out so I might as well push on, right? After looking at the map, another few sessions will have me near the center of the galaxy, so I'm thinking hey diddle-diddle, right up the middle and hit Sagittarius A then take a really really hard left and head to see Colonia for the first time. There, I'll make my way back to the bubble to plan the next run.

Thanks!

Just some advice: a lot of people have flown the straight-line to the Core. Try a slightly less direct route, and you'll find a lot fewer stars that have already been Tagged.

Of course, you don't have to go as zig-zaggy as I did when I made that trip:

You make two good points here. One, bookmark the "end-of-the-1000ly" in order to give me a rough plot of the course. Writing this stuff down has been sort of a pain.

The second is that since I am out, why not zig-zag a bit more. Add a week or save a week doesn't matter considering this is likely going to take me a month (with my schedule).

Yes.. go see Sag A and the Great Annihilator.. they're awesome. :D

Once in the core, there's another thing you should do before going to Colonia, go up to the top, or down to the bottom of the galaxy. The view from those points are quite different and cool. :)

Hey, I'm headed out in that general direction too. I've been "exploring" around the bubble and nearby nebulae, but this is also my first real long-distance exploration that I'm doing right now. Since I have a couple of friends in tow, we're hitting the path to Colonia currently, with its rest-stops along the way.

I have to echo what's been said about doing something other than the "straight line". I tend to arch my paths a little, usually both horizontally and vertically, and then arrive at my destination about 300ly above or below it. This has been working great on the nebulae out as far as the Eagle Nebula, to get a lot of first discoveries.

Fly safe, CMDR! o7
