First time wetwork

Some advice please!
I’ve got over 200 hours in Elite and recently came back for another stint. After a week or so of running various missions for my minor faction I thought I’m ready for aome
Combat.

I picked up the lowest level combat mission I could find - 220k wetwork (single target) harmless level.

However I’ve attwnpted this 4 times now and have had 1 rebuy! The target is an Asp - fair enough I’m in an A rated DBS. However in the mission zone there are 9-10 other ships including feds and an anaconda that all join the fight against me when I initiate combat.
The threat level for this instance is 1.
The best I’ve been able to do is get the targets hull down to 90% before being forced to escape. I’ve used chaff, tried boosting away to recharge shields, but the onslaught is so great it seems “impossjble” yes I’m sure someone could do it but surely a lev 1 threat and a harmless mission shouldn’t only be doable by the very best pilots out there?!
Any advice?

Is it flagged as a "wing" mission? Those tend to have a lot of opposition for wetwork missions. That seems like a whole lot of additional help for the target for a non-wing one.

I’ll have a look when I’m back on, I didn’t notice it saying anything about wing recommended but I may have missed it. Yeah a lot of support for the target, I don’t know what the other ships were, there were 2 “green” feds that obviously turn red once combat started and a conda amongst many others.

Is it a legal target or do you get a bounty for attacking? If the latter, then all security will join in to gank you. Always be careful checking the target for wetwork missions before accepting.

Yes its illegal and does bring on a bounty. I was expecting a bounty but wasn’t expecting such a large amount of ships for a harmless level mission.
Thanks yeah I might give ramming it a go, worth a try anyway!
If it’s not a wing mission, which I will need to check, then it seems to make wetwork missions not worth it for risk vs reward. It’s only a 220k reward. Might be best to just avoid these types of missions unless this is a exception rather than the rule?

My experience with wetwork missions, while not nearly as extreme as what is happening to you, is that they are not really worth it when compared to other combat mission types.
I generally end up with multiple ships attacking me when I do them and often end up with a bounty on me that I need to pay off....yet they don't reward any better than other combat oriented options.

I still will take a wetwork mission now and again just for giggles and rp reasons (and when the payoff is really sweet), but the added downsides vs. other combat types means I don't do so very often.

I think I’m with you on that! The RP is why I took it and why I didn’t mind having to sort out a bounty afterwards.
I will try another, maybe this is just an extreme exception. I’m not expecting easy and i would expect the authorities to be called and a bounty. I hate complaining because I love the game, it would be nice tho if harmless and below instances with a low threat level are limited to 2/3 opponent ships I suppose. The added “difficulty” to wetwork could be the fact that you will have to deal with a bounty and the potential of incoming authorities. Say after a minute or so.
