First trip to Sag A* - Need some basic tips

Just beware there's a chance you'll be utterly bored about 1/64 from Sag A*. For me what gets to me is the repetition, whether hardcore trading or just travelling for ages, I lose focus, and accidents happen. Playing normally I have barely scratched a ship. And obviously my normal exploring routine breaks it up with finding nice stuff etc.

I don't think I could do a Sag A* trip, so I think it's a big accomplishment. For me at least it would have been 99% stubbornness if I got there.

Just wondering when the abandoned part of space begins

Pretty much just past your front porch.

Longshot can get me out of human occupied space in 10 minutes if I boot'n'scoot. About 400ly or so and it gets thin. Get 1000ly out and you're in mostly unexplored space unless you're on a beeline to a nebula where a lot of explorers have gone before. Drop 500ly above or below the galactic plane any you're in unexplored space for a long, long, long, way.

Sure but I don't want to be destroyed by the black hole

Actually, nothing in deep space can hurt you, only heat wear and tear. I hope FD eventually makes exploring dangerous, but for now you're only in danger of getting haemerrhoids from sitting in your command chair too long.

Btw how far is the final border of habited space from Sag?

Go to your galaxy map, set view to 'faction' and all the stars will color based on factions; then zoom out and you'll see where the colors end. It's a pretty small ball of space, really. Just a dot against the spiral arm. Or you can set the population selector - slide it up to 100,000 or so and you'll only see star systems with inhabitants. Again: small space.

Before you do a Sag A* trip do a couple of shorter routes to see if you actually like it. If you stop to scan stars, interesting planets etc. then you will be out for a while with little else. Don't do a big trip first. If you decide you are bored and want to join a CG and are 26kly out you've got a long haul home...

There are plenty of interesting things within a couple kly of inhabited space.

Or see if they get bored on the way. If they do turn back.

So what ya guys saying, is my eqiupment good to go for Sag?

I'm about 12k out in a Clipper now and thoroughly enjoying it. You can save a little bit more weight and get almost to 26 Ly jump range.

Dropping to an 2A power plant saves some weight and can still power everything that's needed.

Life support and power distributor can save more weight by going down to D.

Lastly, I'd strongly recommend going with a 7D fuel scoop. Super cheap and can fill up your tank in a few seconds. It'll save a ton of time in the long run. Don't know off the top of my head but I think it's even cheaper than the A4. I absolutely love that thing!

Safe travels!

Finally, you might want to load up on music and/or audiobooks to listen to. It's going to be a long trip, and if you're doing a timed run for Buckyball A*, it's going to be monotone as well.

Only just discovered this thread, I'm gearing up to do the same as Symbiont so this is all good. Re: entertainment just wanted to chip in with three recommendations that I've pre-loaded on my iPad: a few back issues of Lave Radio, the Radio Sidewinder app and a link the the r4nger0 twitch stream.
