Notice Fleet Carrier Update - Known Issues

It was a great day for trading tritium.
Yeah, out of boredom I also did a little Rocket Tea hauling, found systems that gave 26k per unit profit all within one jump of each other. Stopped at around 20M earned but could have done 100M in an hour if I'd applied myself. Even non-FC owners can profit from that!

Cardinal Rule of professional software development and release management NEVER EVER MAKE CHANGES TO THE CODE OR RELEASE MECHANISM BETWEEN FINAL BETA TEST CYCLE AND MAIN RELEASE.

Well done FDEV. I used to think your problem was that you had no Test Engineers or people that actually play this game. Now I realize you have no software professionals at all.

That is very much not the cardinal rule of professional software development. Changes are made after code freeze all the time. You shouldn't be adding new things, but the entire point of a beta test is to find the bugs so you can fix stuff. Just because you final check the last of the bug fixes doesn't mean that things you fixed late don't break rare cases that happened early or didn't happen at all in the beta. Similarly stuff breaks plenty frequently due to minor differences between scalable production environments and the more limited beta and testing environments.

FDev certainly needs work on their QC, but the company I'm a developer for has 99.99% up time, no critical defects most years and still makes changes after code freeze and make changes that don't go through full regressions after fixing the final few hold outs. We just have developers and QA that carefully look at each change and what it's possible impacts are. But we still have inevitable glitches that come up from differences in production data vs our test (most generally related to scaling, since even in beta and load testing, you can't really emulate the dynamics of a full blown live environment.)

Greetings Commanders,

Thank you to everyone who has reported the issues they’ve found since the update went live. We’re reading all the feedback and the development team is working hard on resolving them as we speak.

This thread is intended to share which issues we are aware of and any information relating to them. We'll keep this thread up to date with news and information, so please do keep checking back for the latest updates.

Current known issues:
  • Commanders being kicked from the game and unable to rejoin, or taking a longer than expected time to rejoin.
  • Commanders experiencing crashes related to connection errors.
  • Various sites missing from the in game world, such as Dav’s Hope.
  • Commanders being unable to purchase a Fleet Carrier.
  • Some Commanders did not have to wait any time for their fast track quota.
    • Fast tracking Powerplay quotas is currently not available while we investigate a further fix.

Thank you for your help in reporting these issues and your patience as we investigate!

For any other issues we're going to be reading the feedback here, but please also submit them to our issue tracker: https://issues.frontierstore.net/

Tim

Update:

Once again thank you for your patience and feedback, we’ve managed to look further into the issues at hand as a result!

As it’s now approaching midnight in Frontier local time, the development team are getting some well-earned rest along with the community team as well! We’ll be back in the morning to continue investigating these issues and updating you on fixes for them as soon as we can.

We will continue updating the OP with any issues, or further information on existing issues.

Thanks again for your patience!

One glitch I didn't see reported is "station sound" while in supercruise... i.e. a "background sound track" you hear while docked in a station was playing while in supercruise.

Honestly the Fdevs should be ready to burn the midnight oil after each and every major update. But this crew dumps the update, throws a party and goes home to sleep off the hangover while players burn in agony. Thanks guys, we appreciate it!

Well I grind and grind for weeks to earn enough credits to purchase an FC and the upkeep.... then the Black Adder slaps me in the face over and over again. FDEV you really dropped the ball this time. Way to go to keep your player base happy.... ....

you backup before release. make the release. Discover huge flaws. Roll back release. Make fixes and then re-release.

It's not very cool to leave production broken.

This error is happening to everyone except the 4 or 5 who entered first? Or are there really people who have managed to buy a carrier? (not me, im still getting the black adder error, starting to hate adders)
