ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers - Content Reveal Announcement

5 billion credits??!?!!?

Welp, I suspected they'd be expensive, but wow.

Enjoy FC's everyone, but sadly this will be just another feature which adds nothing for me. If after six years I still don't have anywhere near that credit amount I really have no hope of ever owning one of these things.

Good luck all, have fun.
You can enjoy FC's too because their owners can let you land on them, use their services and hitch a 500ly ride.

Uhh, no. Nothing that serves any in-game purpose other then 'looks good' should ever be able to be bought with ARX (and by extension, real money). That'd be the beginning of the very, very slippery Pay-to-Win slope.

Just curious, how does one "Win" in Elite. For example, if I bought a FC with ARX, how would I "win" over you? Seriously think about that.

In fact I'd guess they would make no sound in space but this is ED.
That would depend on what they do to space when they jump. I'd imagine, if you weren't being roasted by the radiation, the gravitational wave from a couple of black holes colliding would be quite loud, vacuum or not.

Yep, given there's no player to player credit transaction system, if a squadron dedicate all their efforts through mission sharing or wings so one of the member can gather enough creds to buy one I assume several of other members will have enough money to buy one too. Unless they implement some kind of "squadron bank" where any member can deposit cash in...

It's why I said what I said; not becuase it's possible to pool resources but because the indication is that we can set prices in our own Carrier marketplace. That's a new thing (if interpreted correctly), so perhaps the Carrier usage has evolved way beyond that initial annoucement. The "load out" part certainly has. It's not impossible, but unlikely, I'll grant you!

This image where it came from?

To be honest I can’t even afford an anaconda yet. But I’m on a long distance exploration trip of forty or fifty thousand light years. I’ll see how much that nets me when I get back to the bubble.

For me Elite is a game that needs you to be patient. I’m prepared to wait.
Pledge with LYR (or what's his name). After 4 weeks, you get triple rewards for cartography data.

What if I just want to earn money playing the game , and not have to rush to the same spot as everyone else in order to exploit a unique goldrush opportunity?
Then do that and get the FC at some point after the instant of release.
After all it is highly unlikely that they are only going to be available for a limited period.

Considering how much a Corvette costs, if you extrapolate that to a FC with 16 landing pads then a cost of 5 Bil is probably right around the correct price point.

However, I wanted a jump range of 400,000 LY please.

Are they still doing the support ships to modify the missions of the FCs?

Fleet Carrier Planetary Landing video has leaked !!!

First - this is awesome news. I have been waiting on this for so long, and am very excited to finally hear more. Kudos to the team!

Second ... Serious question ... where do the ships go?

The landing pads on the carrier appear to be nose-to-tail. Station hangars in game are not directly underneath the pads, but "ahead" of them, in the direction of the landing, which for most pads in that image would be underneath another pad. Similar thing with the sliding pad that rolls out over the opening when your ship takes the elevator down to the hangar ... slides out from "ahead" of the pad.

New hangar layout? Multiple folded quantum dimensions inside the carrier granting it Tardis-like expandability? New "stretch" carrier layout to accommodate station-like hangars?

Yep, given there's no player to player credit transaction system

I think there's a system for that once the carriers arrive. We can set prices and levy tariffs, right?

1) Set price of biowaste to 1,000,000 CR/t.
2) Giver buys 100t.
3) Set price of biowaste to 1 CR/t.
4) Receiver buys 100t, giver sells 100t.
5) Set price of biowaste to 1,000,000 CR/t.
6) Receiver sells 100t.

That moves roughly 100 MCR from A to B, I think. With tariffs, there's also a commission for the FC owner, so there's some incentive to arrange wealth transfer events.

Or just pads with no hangers?
