ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers - Content Reveal Announcement

When I bought my first iCutter, at 15% off the MSRP, it was expensive for me at the time.It took awhile, but after A-rating, it cost me a bit more than 5X the MSRP. So I'm guessing, these things with max builds will be somewhere in the +/-20B range when completed? I guess I should be thinking about getting my mining rig back on the chain gang.

Does anyone know if mining is considered "an essential business," and should I do that in solo to maintain social distancing?

(...) That would still mean 50 hours, which is not 'a few days' for most people. Even if I spend one hour every day I would need almost two months of doing nothing but repetitive mining when it comes to ED. (...)

Yes, not everybody has that time on their hands and maybe with this said, Fleet Carriers are also not for everybody... Somebody earlier had a nice analogy with Eve and some super ships comparable to FCs and not really obtainable for most players unless they can actually spend that much time with the game

on "the grind" I agree with you, but in my opinion, there are now ways around it and FDev solved some problems with it (just some) e.g. Engineers became in my eyes a moot point with the introduction of Material Traders. Nevertheless, there is still so much to do.

They do though good things when they listen to the Community

I have a commando save with something like 800 million in cash and ships and im lucky if I play once every three months. I'll never own a carrier at that rate and im more than happy to accept that.

Cool story. I have an account with something like two billion in cash and I only play once every decade or two. I'll probably not be able to feed my children tonight and I am excited to accept that.

Anyone else got a cool story to share?

QUESTION: Tritium is a gas, just three times heavier than the Hydrogen we scoop from stars. Will we mine this gas directly from asteroids, or will we obtain it indirectly by mining, say, Lithium?

Technically everything is a gas if you make it hot enough, just as everything is a solid if you make it cold enough, I imagine it will be mined as solid chunks from really cold asteroids.

But that is the thing: it has nothing to do with time at all. Either you grind one specific thing for +-100 hours, or you can spend thousands and not come close. It's about balance, not time. If smuggling, exploration, combat et cetera would earn the same there would be no issue.

This is not Elite: Mining and it is simply daft how skewed it is. It was tollerable before because despite the imbalance you could get a Conda via exploration, combat and so on even though mining was vastly faster. But now it is nearly mandatory if you want to even start with the content they spend 18 months on.

I blame fdev for the stupid going on around the forum from day 1.

You should never mix single player game people with multiplayer game people in a game that tries to be both and ends up doing both bad. I think fdev gets off on the conflict.

One of your most frequent questions about Fleet Carriers was: How much do they cost? Fleet Carriers will be a lucrative investment, costing 5,000,000,000cr at launch.
This is a reasonable cost from a "it's a megaship, of course it's going to cost a whole lot" perspective. However, like buying a house or expensive vehicle IRL, it would be nice to be able to mortgage or purchase via loan a fleet carrier with a sizeable (say 500 mil) down-payment. Then we could use the FC to help pay for the FC. If we fall behind on our "payments" (based on gameplay time, not RL time), then we might face foreclosure / repossession.

This would also give us purpose to use our FC. Otherwise we're using it to earn credits but with little to spend those credits on, since we already own the "biggest thing out there" free and clear.

Just something to consider. Surely banks are alive and well in 3306 :D

I think that makes more sense than the current suggested system.

If carriers are too expensive just don't buy it.
Are you complaining on mining? Good, you can still explore, or doing wing missions with other people (hello, 50ml+ per gud mission, I undestand, that this is onl 1%, but first- it shouldn't be easy, and second- you earn money for all activities in game)

Or how about gambling space credits in CQC

Or we have to put bags over fumeroles with the SRV.
Ice mining with laser saws !

Wasn't that nerfed in the last patch? I thought the mega-payouts were cut down.
Nope. Last night whilst reading this thread I took a Conda out and earned 300M from LTD mining - and that was with only finding a grand total of 1 deep core asteroid. The rest was laser mining.

I read somewhere that only 7% of the player base have over 1 billion credits. This certainly tallies with my social group.

So I assume the amount who have 5 times that amount is more like 1-2% .

Let's talk more about how this is a rational entry point to the new content....

If after five years you dont come close, it is fair to say the 'play as you want' approach does not realistically allow many to purchase a carrier in any remotely decent window time. I literally have to measure in decades.
What's wrong with this way of thinking? You can do what do you want, but no expect, that you can buy cutter with modules after trading only waste :D
IRL: I don't complain, that by work in McDonald i can't earn enough money for ferrari, right?
Back to game- if you want the most expensive content earn money via the most lucrative activities, no popping pirates with 10k bounty :)
Can you play only with sidewinder? Yep. Can you make mission to transport 1000t of gold? Yes, but it will be incredible long. Can you kill hydra with sidewinder? I don't know, I saw kill on cyklop.
Someone complain, that the can't do all missions in basic ship? Nope.
I haven't too 5bil but I don't have problem with that, I have 1 bil, but I'm in black, in current trip I earn this 1 bil. I'm maybe in...1/3? 1/4 of trip? When I return I will make some wing missions with friends.

My income breaks down as:

Trade: 4B
Mining: 2B
Exploration: 7B
Combat: 1B

Balance being (rough guess):

CGs: 3B (Yes , I was lucky in the CG we don't mention!)
Missions/Passengers: 3B

Balance Cash: 8B

Not much mining there!

Looking forward to the FCs very much, for new stuff to do!

One question is: When will the Beta cut be made?

I am currently out in the Styx, so need to get back to play in Beta!

Credits come with time; not an KS, but playing since open Beta days.
