ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers - Content Reveal Announcement

So they should make content for those who don't play the game? They should make FC available for peanuts, so you can own one at the start and get bored after few hours?

So the not that rich people need to grind credits first to get their FC and then get bored after a few hours?
That's twice the misery.

I don't mind the 5 billion pricetag myself but I think it's just a bad idea to introduce a new feature that's only available to a few after such a long time of nothing new added to the game but purchasable paints and some bug fixes.

FC is the big ticket item, who knows what will be added for the poor, I am sure there will be a crumb or two in the update. But seriously there are always items and areas in any games that are only available to the rich and/or long term player, on most games they are called end game content because they are only available to players who have passed through all the other content. Virtually giving FC's to new players would be like giving end game raid armour to a beginner in LOTRO or WoW, pretty pointless because they haven't actually learned how to play the game. They still wouldn't be able to successfully run or partake in a raid and most raid leaders gate their raid party by gear because the ability to get good gear usually denotes a good understanding of the game, so giving everyone the best straight up would ruin a lot of things for players.

Now this is not a standard MMO so we don't have raids and other standard MMO mechanics but it seems FDEV still follow some of the standard tropes maybe not necessarily because they work well here, but because people expect them and they do work in other games.

It's not unusual for a game update to include other stuff beyond the headline feature. Those QoL additions are often of more practical use than the main attraction :) Hopefully there wlll be bug fixes too.

I definitely agree with you but those other games very often bring new features into their games regularly.
ED has been void of new additions for a long time par a few bits and bobs and adjusted mechanics.
The FCs are quite a big deal after such a long time and most players are just standing at the sideline because they need to grind credits first in order to be able to enjoy this new addition.

Another space game gives you a cheap capital ship after a couple hours of gameplay, you want bigger, better? Earn cash and buy one.
No one gets left out of the added gameplay that way.

You honestly believe there will be more in the FC update for the not so rich majority?
I hope so but I won't count on it.

I'm not counting on it either :)

But then I play the game a lot and am in a position to actually afford one & potentially have a tactical use for the thing rather than having it as a trophy, and reason to be concerned (in-game) if others use one against me (depending on features).

Maybe you will get something out of the update too :) I hope you do.

All I'm saying is, is that ED has been void of any actualy new additions to the game and now they finally come up with something and it's only available to those with a whole lot of credits, a minority.
For all we know the only new stuff we get next is the new Era which has to be bought with real money.
Imho there would be a lot of players who would've gladly payed a tenner for an FC dlc instead of having to grind untill they've got 5 billion and whatnot.

As I said before, I don't personally mind the 5 billion even though I don't have it atm but I neither would have minded paying a tenner or so for an FC dlc and thus not having to grind my way for it.
If ED was filled with enticing and engaging or even balanced gameplay then I wouldn't have had any problems with it at all but Fdev seemingly sees grinding and repetitive gameplay as the only way to accomplish things.

The same spacegame I mentioned earlier recently introduced a whole new line of ships.
They could've just stuck a huge pricetag on it so you'd have to grind credits to obtain it.
Instead they were a bit more creative and combined it with a quest to get your first new ship, for the next one you'd have to do a certain amount of various missions in order to get the currency for buying your opportunity to get another one.
A lot more engaging imho then the monotonous grinding Fdev uses for bringing new stuff within your reach.

I hope this personal carrier is the budget one, and I hope there is a larger tougher squadron battlecruser coming as well at some point.

I am sure you are right and the reaction about that on the forums would be so much worse than it has been for this.

The problem/difficulty I see/have is those/me that only have a meagre quantity of credits will have to do their favourite thing for a long time (possibly a year or two too long) to get that much, or do stuff they don't want to do in resentful sessions!

Perhaps FDev might see it's way to introducing a smaller more efficient Fleet Carrier for those with smaller fleets and budgets!

We will see!

Ey guy,
It's really easy to make 5B. Maybe mining is not your playstyle but hey its quick and dirty money.
If your stuck at home because of the zombie apocalyps, do this:
1. take a med/large ship and mine for 2 sessions a day (right now iam filling 336t in 80 mins, fastest was 65)
2. do this for a week or casual 2/3 weeks
3. you earned enough for a FC.
4. Have fun!

PS: I've done this for the past 3 days just to proof you can do it in a relaxed way. And made 4,5B.
Not that I needed it but just becuz!

They're indestructible, I'm not there's actually a tougher thing than that...I suppose Superindestructible might work!

So you've never taken a mission with a time limit on it?

Strange.
That is something different and yes I don’t take missions when I am not certain I can complete it within my session. So to stay with your analogy a FC is a weekly time limited reoccurring mission and thats what I am not willing to do

Sorry Skip I just can't agree with your reasoning. Nothing personal, I enjoy reading what you post for a very long time now. Yes, I would like to see varied sizes of FC available eventually, but your personal Cr acount is not an argument for it. You have been around as long as I have and frankly I have never "ground (grinded?)" for my cr's and can buck up for one. My first goal was to be sure that I could buy whatever ship I happened to want at any time. Second was to never worry about rebuy again. Now, did I make a choice to do one or two days every 3 or 4 weeks (okay, sometimes 3 or 4 days) to get to my end goals (things that pay well)? Yep, kinda like RL. I set mini goals like "okay I just passed 500m cr and I will never dip below that again; now I'm at 1bcr and won't dip (etc)". Further, if I wanted a new ship or module I would then go out and earn the cr's first (so as not to break the previous rule) plus just a bit extra.

I do hope they bring out some smaller versions eventually, but that time is not now I would guess. If they do bring out some smaller pad versions, I would like a "mini" or two myself (in addition to my major carrier).

All said, the release of these behemoths has been signaled for quite some time and you have been well advised to save your pennies for it.

Edit; By the way Skip, you are welcome on my FC anytime until you can afford your own.
Thank you,
We likely play and treat real life in totally different ways from each other*, I am in general a fairly lazy person that given the choice wouldn't go out of my way to earn for anything I couldn't pay for out of my pocket, I don't set goals, I just understand that as a human being I'm not gonna be alive for long, so my time is short and my enjoyment of that time is paramount, consequently, if I find something eating into my time that I don't enjoy, then the scales are very much tipped against it from the off set, and that task had better come up with a really big bonus... (like say, not being walloped by the tax man, and, not losing my home)
I feel no animosity toward those with more credits than me along with their ability to buy what they want, just as in real life I'm too lazy to become a millionaire and I don't dislike the rich (in fact I kinda like them because the will pay for a good job) but, many of the ways to earn credits are based around combat...which is simply not my bag... nor is mining, nor is Trading, now... that has been tailored to the reallllly lazy (lol) I used to like getting it wrong sometimes with my paper sheets and charts and now it's all done for me I don't like it!
So I'll take a few missions (no gunrunning) and soon head back out for a lap of the Galaxy in 'Nessus' my trusty Clipper...That I do like! (but this FSS thing is a bit of a lead weight, but that's an altogether different kettle of moondust)

So, thanks for the offer of a berth for the night, and though I rarely play open I'll look out for you and bring toilet rolls as payment ;)

*as an example, I play Minecraft only ever in hardcore mode and if I lose a month... six months because I die, I don't mind, because the journey is my enjoyment not the end result, for me nothing is finished there is always something you can do or change!

Thank's for the advice, but we're simply not the same people!
