I've got an odd gut feeling that there's something special with Tritium that I won't like at all.
Something crazy like ARX to Tritium conversions. But that was the pessimist.
The optimist in me still wants to dream in the direction of Tritium scooping from gas giants, which would be awesome...

We can confirm that Tritium is not going to be purchasable with ARX, it'll be acquired by mining certain asteroids or purchased from starports. More of that in the Content Reveal stream though.

Greetings Commanders,

We're thrilled to announce that the first look at the upcoming Fleet Carrier update will be coming to your screens on Thursday, 2 April! Lead Server Developer, Dav Stott, and Game Designer, Luke Betterton, will join us on a special video to talk us through what these vast vessels are and how they'll be shaking up the galaxy!

Since the initial reveal of Fleet Carriers, we've examined the concept of predefined load-outs and decided to invest additional time to ensure that fleet carriers offer the same level of flexibility and customization as other ships within Elite Dangerous. We've done this by adding more loadout options to make your carrier unique, and allow for player-to-player interaction like you've never seen before in Elite Dangerous!

Squirming in your cockpit chair wanting to know more details? Here is some key information on Fleet Carriers - but for the entire content reveal, tune in to our Pre-Recorded Stream on YouTube, on 2 April at 18:00 (UTC). Although we won't be live, our team will be there in the chat to answer any questions that you may have.

  • One of your most frequent questions about Fleet Carriers was: How much do they cost? Fleet Carriers will be a lucrative investment, costing 5,000,000,000cr at launch.
  • Fleet Carriers are individually owned and feature 16 landing pads (of varying sizes) for other players to dock at.
  • Fleet Carriers use a new fuel, Tritium, to jump from system to system.
  • Fleet Carriers have a max jump range of 500LY at one time, with the ability to jump whenever the owner wants, however, they will have a build up and cool down period between jumps.
  • You can manage your carrier's finances by setting tariffs and adjusting the buying and selling prices for commodities traded in it's market.
As it currently stands, we're aiming to launch the Fleet Carriers update in June and will be calling all commanders to experience Fleet Carriers (as both visitors and owners) in two upcoming public betas before the update is live! The first beta will begin on 7 April for PC only, and the second beta which will be launched on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, will take place in May. Please note that there is a chance that these time frames may change slightly in the coming weeks, but we'll keep you up to date on the specific times, dates and instructions.

See you there, Commanders.

Do the fleet carriers come with station weapons to stop people attacking you when you undock or are they classes as anarchy.

Do they come with a piracy load out as well?

5 billion? I have 4.6 billion CR right now. I guess I'll miss out on this opportunity then, considering outfitting a Carrier will cost twice as much, of even more. Too bad. But I still look forward to the update.

Costs too much, I don't have time to grind that much.
It's time to say goodbye to this game till the next content update.

Join a Squadron, make friends. There are lots of ways to benefit from a fleet carrier. You don't have to own one to use one. 500 Ly jump to a highly profitable mining site can have you make CR faster. A station just outside the ring that can rearm, refuel, repair, refill you limpets and buy your goods, that's efficient. Up to 16 players going in different directions finding the best mining system, that's teamwork.

Is the five billion like a ship's purchase price, meaning we need to have tens of billions on top of that to outfit them with? If so, ouch.
Given this:

... it does sound like 5B Cr. is the base price, before options.

5bn? It would have been better if we could buy them for ARX then. I won't sell my entire fleet for one or start a mindless grind.

O7,
🙃
I am not hugely interested in fleet carriers so won’t be grinding either but I really wouldn’t want to be around the forums if they could be bought for Arx and were therefore purely cosmetic.

So we're getting info and people are already asking for discounts and for it to jump further? Bloody hell, I know I'm getting a bit stir crazy indoors, but trust the forums to poop on news so quickly :)
To be fair some people have been asking for them to be cheaper and to jump further ever since the idea of fleet carriers was ever mentioned, long before there was even a hint about what the figures would be.
