Why would an exploration-focused player give up 5bn for something that jumps only the same distance as 6 engineered Anaconda jumps or 7-8 on a good AspX? That's only a few minutes saved, even if buying the Carrier fuel was instantaneous.

For reaching previously unreachable places, the extra light years a Fleet Carrier has in jumprange is priceless.

Q: 16 pads. Does that mean a max of 16 ships, or can it carry more than the number of pads?

I may be wrong but I have the suspicion the pressence of the lead server dev in the stream (Dav Stot) means carriers may necessitate from multiple instances depending on how many players are around one (also, open, solo, private group etc) etc. Dav would be able to explain some of this if that was the case.
