ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers - Content Reveal Recap

Logistically yes (scouting crossed my mind), I was hoping for a better technical solution ;)
I'm sure in time EDSM and others will have loads of systems you can mine in, just as they currently have jumponium systems and whatever.

Using a carrier for exploration is like a snail, you get to keep your home on your back, but also like a snail you don't get there very quickly.

You fly ahead, do recon and find a system you want to fly to. 500ly in an anaconda - less than 10 mins. Then order the carrier to fly to you. While you're there, mine some Tritium

Oh that's disappointing. I want to jump the carrier to an undiscovered system (only know the name) and explore it with a small ship. Do in-system jumps for convenience.

The work is great, the concept of it is great. But there are some few things that would not estimulate the majority portion of players.

The upkeep is too high! You need to work to maintain it. Thats very bad. I think about 1M or 2M would be good.

Ok, I understand it's not for all publics. I think thats not for new players... but a player that can earn 5 billion, is not that newbie any more. They can understand very concepts of the game like outfiting, engeneering, etc.

About one of the most important carrers in the game is Explorer. Oh yes, it is. There's an Elite rank for it. Combat and Trade are the other 2, right?

For explorers, no UC, might be ok. Not the best, but ok.

And that 10M credits of upkeep? I'll need to work a lot if I want to do a year of exploration around the galaxy!!!! More than a half billion to do it, if I have a basic FC, that I understood its not ready for exploration. So there will be more credits of upkeep.

You need to consider ajusting these values. Take in mind some play styles. Basic ones, that wouldn't have interaction with other ones for long periods.

Expensive upkeeps for those who want to trade with FC, maybe OK I think. There's a profit in that.

Please note this observations. I think there's a lot os players that have credits enough to buy it, wanna buy it, but maybe would not be interested because of these points I'm writing here.

Thanks!!!

EDSM does know about everything... your in-game route plotter doesn't :D

It is perfect (or would be if for upkeep I have to go to Borann ;) - with my funds BTW I could sustain for 6.5 years not even logging into the game, still it is a money sink) for long term exploration and living in the Black. Scouting makes perfect sense and introduces additional RP component, exploration does not have to be fast

So can anybody explain me, why should I need to buy FC ? If I'm planning to be in bubble 2-3 weeks, then gone in Void for months, back to bubble 2-3 weeks, gone again ...
I don't do PP because of that - because it is some time related ...
Don't say me about Borann and 4 years .. I would like to know what I will get, except just possibly maybe 1st ever visit too much away star on the edge.

How can we tell the FC to orbit a specific body if we didn't explore the system yet?
We can't. So at present you can either fly ahead in a ship and scout the location or first jump in, detect everything, wait 2 hours, jump out, wait 2 hours, then jump to the body you want.

You cannot use FC in that way, in solo you'll need to grind like a crazy to refuel the 500t of fuel to move again your FC. Before you reach a nice position to use your FC for Exploration base, you need Weeks of jumps and grind. Very funny eh ? ^^

Then why the fuss over FCs snubbing explorers? Rather than complain thats its not exploration focused keep on using what you have.

It snubs solo explorers. It doesn't snub large expeditions. All those people roleplaying miners during DWE2 now actually contribute by mining the resource for the carrier(s). I've pretty much given up on the notion of a personal fleet carrier in deep space (cost, refuel grind as a solo cmdr, upkeep) but I will definitely be part of expeditions with carriers. Now you can switch ships during the expedition, switch roles if you want, if you cant play for two weeks you wont be left behind: it is awesome.

No it does not. People knew real well it was going to be tough (not impossible) for single commanders to keep a carrier going. Well, surprise, we now know it is and we have the tears. People need to adjust expectations or learn to read.

That is not fair. For an incredible long time we have known next to nothing beyond 'you can own them as a solo cmdr' and 'exploration is one of the roles you can specialize your Fleet Carrier in. Now we know it is close to impossible to use a fleet carrier for exploration on your own, and I have no clue what the 'explorer specialization' would be considering the one service that caters to explorers is not available. Honestly, what was the 'exploration support ship' supposed to do?

Don't get me wrong, I can perfectly live with what is on the table now and look forward to see how it'll be used. But you can't blame people for having hopes as a solo explorer beyond what was revealed, and it has nothing to do with 'learning to read'.

But if you think about it, would you really want to send a 5 billion+ credit vessel somewhere completely uncharted, risking thargoids or whatever? Sending in an expendable scout ahead of them to check it out makes perfect sense to me.

Really? We knew they were going to have a heavy squad focus even when they were opened out to lone commanders. I can understand the frustration at no UC (which would make sense if it was added), but I'm frankly amazed people think it was going to be easy running an FC on their own, on the edge of the galaxy with no help.

All platforms currently have their own separate galaxies. At present, they are only persistent across game modes on a particular platform.

Nope. Single Galaxy.
I can affect the bgs in a system on XBox and both the PC and PS4 commander will see and feel the effects.

Agreed, remains to be seen if FC is visible across all platforms. I would suspect yes. Just a guess though.

Edit; Might be the reason for the additional Beta.
