ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers - Content Reveal Recap

This is probably for dealing with 1st time discoveries.Imagine go to an area that is undiscovered and sell all your data quickly so no one else will have the possibility to get some first discovered systems there. It's not game breaking but unfair in some circumstances, unless FD manage to find a way to sell 1st discoveries bonus to the first who gets to a star port
Except you have to bring the Fleet carrier out there first, which is slower then jumping out anywhere in a decent ship.
So I still don't understand this.

While I am on the fence about it, and certainly anticipated a UC: Exploration is nearly risk free, even more so with a carrier nearby. This low-risk is offset by having extreme losses when it does go wrong. If you can sell all your data whenever you want, there is almost no risk of something going wrong and no real consequences when it does go wrong. Not sure about that from a balance perspective: low-risk-low-consequences isn't the usual target.

Not saying I am against adding a UC, but I am not sure it is as straight-forward a choice. Ideally I would like to see some kind of explorer income, but without being able to sell all data. For example, only allow certain types of data to be sold. That way you can keep your upkeep going for as long as you want, while also still suffering a potential risk if things do go south.
You have to bring the carrier out there first ;)

edit doubleposted duh 🤦‍♂️

Another F.Y. from frontier to the explorers!

So they skipped the single most valuable possibility for explorers. Without cartographics there is no way to do a long time exploration trip without putting in significant funds in advance, or returning to civilization every now and then. Sure repairs are nice, but without turning in your work and ensuring it can't be lost what is the big incentive to schlep one of these out into the deep black.

And given this the restriction on cartographic data makes absolutely no sense. Why can bonds be transferred to central authorities but map data can't ?

How about all those systems even a single jump Anaconda can't reach?

o7 all
impressive job @frontier
about the firts BETA : i'm currently working in Colonia, do i have to move to the Bubble to buy an FC ?
if so, when do you plan to fork the players data into the betas servers ?
(i would prefer to avoid 2 Colonia/Bubble trip so close...)

It's a beta, suicidewinder back to the bubble ;)

Extremely disappointed .... completely useless for exploration .... 1 hour to jump? who had this great idea? thanks for nothing FD ...
How fast can you mine 500t of anything?

As a mostly solo player, Fleet Carriers look to be a huge waste of time and effort, as well as a slap in the face. There is not one thing on the carrier that's actually useful, for the cost.

No Universal Cartographics for exploration? HARD PASS

Can only make money off of other players, and not NPCs? HARD PASS

Charge extra for commodity sales? As a commander using that facility, I say HARD PASS, unless the carrier has cheaper base prices for commodities.

Just over 520 million credits per year for upkeep for only the base model? Not Horrible, but I would need to see the price after all of the upgrades, before I pass judgement.

The Carrier just seems to be a waste of time, so far. Hopefully the beta improves the overall experience, because otherwise, HARD PASS.

It is a bit odd, perhaps its due to some internal limitation rather than design. Maybe they thought it was too unfair on small ship guys- if you jump out you could have used a FC as a hub and rapidly explored the local area and fired off data much faster than doing it by small ship.

Will it be possible to buy Tritium at stations? In other words do you have to mine it?

I rather hope you can do a quick trip to the shops in your T9 for carrier fuel.

I'm sorry but I disagree. With having paid 5,000,000,000 for the privilege, players deserve the right to sell first discovered systems at their carrier. Besides, in a 400,000,000 system galaxy, new discovered systems aren't going to run out soon. ☺

10 So FD are trying to lock players to playing at least once per week.

2. There is nothing here for solo players.

3. FD is clearly trying to force people into multi-play. We were told these FCs would be 'personal fleet carriers'. That only works if NPCs can use the carriers, which apparently they cannot.

4. I do not see how these things are of any use to those of us interested in exploration.

5. X4 does trading a lot better than ED, which is after all supposed to be about flying spaceships.
Regarding item 3, reread the posted Q&A / reveal. Fleet Carriers are persistent across game modes. Even if you choose to play in Solo mode or in a Private group with friends, people playing in Open will be able to dock at your carrier (and you'll be able to dock at theirs, assuming docking privileges are not restricted to just Squadron, Friends, etc).

Carriers just repeat NPC functions. So FC can never offer better price then NPC. That's all, nothing to add. That will be always negative income.
Except personal "bank". Which is new ... but ... why do I need bank ? :D All commodities I just sell, I have no reason to collect 25000 of anything.

I don't see how people will buy anything at the carriers if you end up paying a premium. What I would have liked to see is that carrier owners are able to buy things in bulk and therefore get a discount, allowing them to sell those at their carrier cheaper while still making a profit.
That depends where you have bought it from and where you are selling it. You could buy it super cheap or mine it for free and sell it for cheaper at another system. The tariff looks like it's on top of the purchase price you bought it for. There is plenty of room to make profit.

But, yay, I guess someone with a carrier could easily jump straight next to Hutton Orbital now with a hold full of stuff and ferry it all across in a medium or small ship.

This is a really roundabout way of introducing ferries.

I don't understand the economics. No NPC interactions (boo!) and no reason for players to pay at a premium unless the FC is out in the boonies where there are no players. So bottom line, unless a group is TRYING to keep a FC in operation, the responsibility falls solely on the owner. I really like the rest of the features, but there needs to at least be a CHANCE to break even on weekly upkeep without constantly dumping credits into it. Not even talking about actually making a profit here...

"easily"

Not really. 5 billion up front, weekly upkeep, and loading up the stuff and fuel first.
Taking one hour of warmup.

I don't see that as easily better then just going there yourself.
