Floor-to-ceiling mounts

Hi shadragon, I got this solution from the forums here, but as I can't find that post, here is the Reddit link:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4ext02/3m_hook_mounted_light_house_tripod/

And I can confirm it works very well, and doesn't need any floor space! Plus it's pretty cheap from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Command-Utility-Large-5-Pound-Capacity/dp/B000FKDEIA

I got similar ones in the UK for just over £20. Bargain!

I'm using a pair of floor-ceiling poles like these

http://www.amazon.com/FastCap-Suppo...w_p_img_9?ie=UTF8&refRID=18X4WMG9DFPS8XB1CMF1

And clamps like these

http://www.amazon.com/Grifiti-Threa...xgy_469_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1ZQ4HP8XS27P08R1DBZP

The above two ran about $100US including shipping. Not all that cheap frankly...

The poles are OK. They aren't all that pretty. They can wobble a bit if pushed, but for this purpose they seem to be plenty solid enough. I had to install them upside down. They telescope and the inner pole is somewhat thin. The clamps fit better on the outer/wider pole. The inner pole seems too thin to properly mount. If you can find something cheaper or better, go for it. The benefit is they are quite quick to take down and move.. and they are long enough that they should work in rooms with rather tall ceilings. I use velcro straps to tie down the power cable along the length of the pole.

The clamps work great. Simple to use.

I think the easiest most portable solution would be a light/camera stand/tripod. I prefer the floor to ceiling pole as the corners of my room have limited area. A tripod needs room for legs. The pole just sits tight in a corner very close to the wall. If its a long term installation and are able.. best to use the included wall mounts.

My landlord came by last night to do a repair on our outside lights. I ran into him coming back from the store and after pleasantries were exchanged mentioned I was getting a Vive headset. He gushed that he badly wanted to try one out, but I told him I couldn't show it off until I got mounting poles. He asked why and after explaining, he said he'd make an exception in his wall drilling policy for the base stations. So I'll be drilling holes after all. :)

Crisis averted.

Only problem (well, possible problem) is that he wants to get ED as well, and now may be visiting on a far more regular basis for 'inspections'! :D

LOL that's good news [up]

Fortunately I'm my own landlord, however I don't own a drill. I just nailed them to the wall.

Just determine the spots you want to mount them in (usually as close to the ceiling as possible), put a nail with a small enough nailhead ~2cm below the ceiling, put the mount on and just nail the lower end with a bigger headed nail for fixation. Works perfectly fine for me.

Not that easy. Our ceiling and walls are 10" thick rebar concrete for hurricane protection. I'll be drilling. Cheers.
