General Forced New Game for Odyssey. And important suggestions(which some ppl will hate)

Feel free to wipe your save, it is a very simple procedure, OP.

I play 5 accounts - although only 3 are currently particularly active - and can honestly see no benefit to starting an expansion to the game back at zero once more - but thank you for your inclusive suggestion for group misery

I can see your logic but people would stop playing. If their progress could be arbitrarily wiped once, how could they be sure it wouldn't be wiped again in the future? It's just not an incentive to keep playing the game.

Maybe wipe progress with each patch and update? It will be like Alpha/Beta again!

Don't worry, you can experience this when Elite Dangerous comes out for Nintendo Switch. It'll be just like when it came out on PS4 - we all started as broke noobs on launch day, and it was pretty epic

It died the moment OP hit "Post". We are all just kicking the corpse. Cuz we are sick and are apparently into that sort of thing. Corpse kicking I mean, very therapeutic.

LOL, anyway, if wiping my save was a requirement for Odyssey, I would go from, considering picking it up eventually, to never even considering buying it.

Haha. During the beta FC's were far more expensive to outfit and set up and maintenance was far more than what it is now, but the majority of players decided it was to much and FDEV took that into account when releasing the update.

So how do you expect to make the majority of players enjoy something when they have already given feedback that they wouldn't enjoy it? Here's a clue, you can't make someone enjoy something, and doing what you propose would probably alienate the majority of the player base and be a huge financial disaster for FDEV.

And what about the next expansion, and the one after that, do you expect the game to be reset for every expansion?

Doing a full server wipe in a MMO is in no way feasible, but I'd love if there was an actual prestige restart mechanic that locked you out of all your regular credits/assets until you reach some milestone. This could even go further by adding/unlocking extra (maybe even challenging and adventurous) start options beyond the sidewinder (I think kickstarter backers got something along those lines already).

Many games do this when content starts running dry, but with odyssey coming that probably won't be an immediate issue.

Please, make forced new game for Odyssey, so everyone will new start without gazillions of creds, fleets of carriers and 100500 ships.
This will make players enjoy new balance and give space for new additions, especially to economics.
For example, make fleet carriers cost much more(5 billions pff) and maintaining too. Let squadrons(only, for crowded, because of licence, for example) to buy and support fleet carriers financially, damatically reduce cargo space but increace fuel tank - this is carrier, not trading vessel.
This will make carriers be real tools for squadrons as base and center of operations and prevent them to be everywhere, reduce server issues, reduce money and community goals exploiting.
Everything you'll add in Odyssey will be fun for new players, but old ones for some reason will sit on golden hills and be confused about poor "endgame". Let them keep their gold on Horizon, but...

No Odyssey is part of Elite not a stand-alone if between now and the start of the Alpha on 29/03/2021 they changed that I doubt I would be the only one asking for a refund.

I wouldn't really have a problem with this, but alot of CMDRs would!
My last restart was around Christmas (moved to pc, from Ps) so I'd only lose a few months progress, but imagine being a day1 backer that has never, ever hit restart. Imagine losing 6(?) years of progress!
Server wipes on other games are enough to make me stop playing for a few months, and some of those are wiped quarterly (or even more often!)

Sadly, this is the mindset of too many people, Mainly those who can't take care of their own problems
and want to FORCE their opinion on others. You can spot them easily, just look for the Finger Pointing.

Except, maybe... permadeath if you get shot on foot in Odyssey? You have ne escape pod, after all. Bang, you're dead, save wiped, start a new character.

(note, I'm not actually recommending this)
