Formidine Rift... what is it?

I can login ok. Can someone who is having an issue pm me your details and I'll take a look.

I'll need your CoR username and the error message you see. It's likely something permission related

I go to the Watchers page, hit a link, and it asks me for my password again. Only it doesn't work! Username had been PMd. Thanks.

interesting follow up thanks bean, it will assist my own sirius incs groups efforts at collective searching for raxxla, i think we ae still the only active ones working on it.

Status of children of raxxla is unknown could be inactive at this point

Salomé has been seen on the distant world's expedition.

Cheers,

Drew.

Now that is an interesting development. I wonder if anyone has identified her ship for this expedition?

(By the way, I just finished reading Mutabilis. And I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of wibbly wobbly timey wimey shenanegans go on with the rest of the Oolite series.)

On the description by the old lady: `You need a tough ship and more than enough talent behind the guns.`
On the Seven Veils description from the epilogue: `It was also a warship; a variety of weapons jutted from the twin engine nacelles, missiles lurked, half hidden in the lower hull, poised to fly.`

Does this get us any closer to understanding drew's comment `Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking.`... maybe?

I originally typed this up before reading Drew's comment above, so new developments may invalidate some of what I was thinking, but I'm editing it on anyway in case it sparks new ideas from fellow explorers:

I think it does. Even though the Seven Veils was described as a Courier in the book, Drew has since confirmed that that was due to proposed ship names current as of its writing, and that it was actually a Clipper. If she used top tech to outfit it as described, it would look something like this: http://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_...aQ==?bn=Seven Veils - Explorer (Hypothesized)

Of course the vehicle hangar could probably be omitted to improve jump range, but she would have been expecting a possible fight far out past the frontier, and this is as good as a deep-ranged combat explorer gets (unless she gained access to future tech before setting out.) As you can see, the jump range is 23.75 Ly and I believe cutting much more weight would prevent it from performing effectively in combat.

Now, all this assumes that the events of "Children of Raxxla" are not canon. I don't know whether that work was approved as such by Drew and/or Frontier, but if it was then that potentially changes a good deal. It would mean that if she decides to continue on to the Rift, she may do so with any other long-range ship. Personally though, I think she's smart (based on what I've read from the GalNet feeds and what little I've learned from those that read Reclamation already,) so if she thinks a Clipper with an iron ass can make the trip then it's safe to assume that:

a) Anything with a jump range of 23 Ly or greater can make it,
b) Something potentially hostile awaits us there, and
c) Whatever is in the Rift is of vital importance to Humanity as a whole.

As for me, I'm confident that we'll definitely find it if we keep looking. I'm currently in the Myoife Sector headed through the void towards the tail of the New Galactic Arm. There are a few interesting areas I want to check out over here, then I plan on heading West by Northwest and up slightly to start attempting to get into the Rift from the south. If anyone is still on their way through the Perseus Gap, there is a massive cluster of extremely bright O and A Class stars in the area of -4,200 : 100 : -4,200. I passed them on my way down and they certainly seemed breathtaking, but I didn't want to abort my current heading. So if you're not in a terrible rush, they may be worth a look.

Currently in the Myoidee Sector between the Perseus Arm and the New Outer Arm. I now see why no one has found whatever this is yet >__> If you're going to go in a ship with a 23 ly range, I would strongly suggest not going via the Heart and Soul Nebulas... I think I'll head back and brute force the Nebulas until we get a better lead, especially since there are other people in the Outer Arm at the moment.

Reading between the lines... I would have thought the reference to "fear" was related to Discoveries That May Shoot At Us, but I wonder if it isn't another hint pointing at the Heart Nebula somehow. I mean, you feel fear in your chest.

Also I wonder if whatever Salome's doing on the expedition has anything to do with this.

I've been trying to get to the nebula about 1,500 Ly south of Heart and Soul, but it's getting pretty sparse. I found myself backtracking more than making progress in the last 2 hours of it earlier. I hate to say it, but even with a 30-32 Ly jump range, I'll probably have to turn West and follow Perseus to the Formidine Bridge, then follow the New Arm back East to hit this little gas cloud in the middle of nowhere.

And Salome' doesn't strike me as the kind of person to go on a trans-galactic expedition just for fun. She's driven, and she's looking for something up there.

Good luck! My galaxy map has been getting weird about telling me whether I have the range to make certain jumps so hopefully you'll find a way through.

I guess we should enlist the help of the expedition then, either to keep an eye out for clues or to see what she's up to. A quick look at the itinerary shows that they're in the Magnus Nebula right now, might be worth checking to see if she goes all the way with them. It also means we may have to consider that the "core of the problem" might actually refer to the galactic core.

If I remember correctly the screenshot it is an Asp explorer (in white paint)

It bothers me that Salome would be flying around in an Asp ... unless of course it was an IMPERIAL ASP :)

Whilst I love this stuff, and followed the whole Formidine Rift stuff a year ago, and from that went and bought, and greatly enjoyed the audio book of Reclamation... is any of this actually supported by F-DEV? Or are people looking for things put in fiction, with great enthusiasm, but which have absolutely no grounding in the game itself?

to answer your question by quoting from this thread:

To add my own contribution here as I've had a lot of questions since the excellent video was published.

The mystery of the Formidine Rift as described by the clues in my story, Elite: Reclamation :

1. It is there to be found in game in ED.
...

Cheers,

Drew.

most enlightning

I think she was referring to hacking into calcop's databanks and getting the coords for the formidine rift.
Depends on how the timeline stacks up.. (was the epilogue set before or during the galnet posts?)

Either that; or it was referring to the events in the Children of Raxxla story (linked a few posts ago). Actually, scratch that one. She said it was mots enlightening _before_ the CoR story. 'cause of when the CoR story was set.
Definitly think she hacked the galcop databanks at Mars High or somewhere else in Sol. Found the recording w/ the coords. That's what was enlightening.
How do we hack galcop databanks? (How do we have been able to hack them since launch?)
Try putting in the konami code at the station UI maybe?
