Forum morality question: how might Powerplay fit in with harsher punishments for player-killers?

1. Yes, anything pledged to an opposing power play faction is a valid target.

2. Tie whatever new consequences and punishments that are added to the major factions.
Kill a regular clean target and the crime is recognized and will be penalized by all three major factions and maybe certain independent systems.
Kill a power play target and your faction won't consider it a crime. I.e, you pledge to an imperial power and kill someone pledged to a federation power, the federation will consider it a crime as any other murder and punish you the same if caught in their space, the alliance could possibly as well (not entirely sure which seem appropriate here) but the empire will not recognize it as a crime and no punishment will apply for it while in imperial space.

I'm not going to comment on PP because many comments in this thread mirror my thoughts on the issue, however as a general rule, all killing of clean targets outside of PP should come with much more severe consequences, whether or not the victim is a player.

So, whatever is done to re-introduce a crime and punishment scheme to the game, it should NOT discriminate between NPC and player. As long as the target is clean, the murderer should be treated the same.

Ah ... yes, this is quite an interesting point, thank you.

If FDev ever start hammering hard the truly random act of player killing, it's a pretty safe bet that most random player killers would join a PP faction and then carry on as before but with slightly narrower focus.

You miss the one deciding difference: if two pilots of opposing powers fight each other, it means that both previously used the "join XY" button and thus effectively signed up for PvP. If you don't want to fight other players under that rule set, just don't join a power.

If you really think you -need- one of the powers weapons, you can also sign up and go for a month of exploration, return just in time to grind your faction rank, buy the equipment and leave again. Risk can be minimized, but truth to be told since engineers I stored away most of my powers equipment. The only weapon I still use, and that's more for the fun of it, is the pack-hound missile launcher. That and prismatic shields are the only power equipment which might be worth acquiring.

All in all, concepts for harsher punishment were suggested on this forum since before the game was launched. I disbelieve that something will ever happen. We got some empty promises from Frontier and by now I am wondering if it's just a matter of them being unwilling or actually unable to get this in order. There were some good concepts around, many several of them considered PowerPlay to be the "I agree to PvP" button, which would be perfectly fine for me.

1) Yes, but to be honest I can not imagine myself killing player in starting ship or trade ship...that why I consider Elite more like PvE game since its designed more for PvE...

2) I doubt we will see, balanced crime and punishment system in Elite anytime soon if ever...because its super hard to make one, FD just do not have dev time for this anyway...

Signing up for powerplay and being in open basically means giving your consent for world pvp to happen. If you are in hostile powerplay territory then expect to be attacked
