General / Off-Topic Forum names

Just a quick question from the shower... you know, that place where weird thoughts just pop into your head.

On the forums, either consciously or not, does a person's name affect how much credence you give to their post? For example does the name 'xxxImmaL33TkiLLerMExxx' or 'Pharty Dangleberry' bias you against the poster even before reading their post?

I know that such names make me roll my eyes (ok maybe I'm a bit of a snob there) but I would like to think that I decide about the post on its merits so if I do prejudge in this way it must be subconscious. Which begs; if this is subconscious, and it isn't just me, is the poster doing him/her-self a disservice by choosing such a name?

Edited: Damn I'm doing a lot of typos today... must be the heat.

It has occurred to me. But after a short think I realised that I give the most credence to those by that well known poster, Surfinjo.

The rest all come equal second.

Uniqueness is king

I believe they did the same thing I did: try to find a unique user name that wasn't already taken. I ended up making an anagram of my first and middle names to accomplish this task. By best friend's username is Bojesphob... he game me the idea.
