What would happen if Frontier got the hump reading all the complaints about Elite and just pulled the game? On a context this other indivual who developed this software was threatening to do it hence the post. Is there any legal issues.
Does not seem to bother Bill Gates MicrosoftThey'd pull the game over lack of financial viability, which isn't a genuine concern.
As for the forum it's their forum their choice. Look at NMS they never even bothered in the first place, could be something to do with all the bomb threats, death threats, threats to their families and even threats to journalists and their families for reporting on release delays.
Not all gamers are capable of reasonable communication lots of dev's just don't bother with all the pointless routine toxicity that the 0.1% of nutters have forced into it.
Interesting article about it here, look in the comments for a guy who got perma-banned from this forum.

The topic every game dev is talking about behind closed doors : The cost of doing business
Content warning : I’ve embedded some tweets to various developers that show the sorts of comments that they receive every day. There’s some…medium.com

banned is what should be done to players who buy credit farming services online..
That seems to be a common misconception. From the first line of the forum rules:This forum is quite interesting. Hosted by the makers of the game, it serves as a ‘we are listening’ tool.
Our aim here on the Frontier forums is to create a community where our fans can post between one another and communicate with the Frontier team.
[/QUOTE]That seems to be a common misconception. From the first line of the forum rules:
Create a community well, it does that - if people help each other then fdev have less need to tell every new person to relog to unlock Palin (and the forums work for that). And people organise events etc.
The other part is people communicating with fdev - which they do. I just think fdev underestimated that many would expect them to communicate back
I don't think the forums take that much managing by fdev - mostly the volunteer mods do the heavy lifting. All fdev need to do is post occasional updates and try to sift something useful from the madness ... oh wait .. that could take quite some effort![]()

It is well seen. The other part is people communicating with fdev - which they do. I just think fdev underestimated that many would expect them to communicate back![]()
You think that Tencent has as much influence in relation to the % of their participation ?FD is a company worth tens of millions while employing hundreds of people. They dont make decisions based on hurt feelings, but based on what gives the Chinese Overlords from Tencent the most profit for their investment.
Frontier don't have a problem communicating when seeking money. Hence dev dairies before DLC release. The other part is people communicating with fdev - which they do. I just think fdev underestimated that many would expect them to communicate back![]()

On that basis, it's a bit cheeky when companies ask you to start advertising their products for free, wishlisting and all that sort of thing.Well, yeah. Salesmen are more talkative when they have a product to sell. They are a company, not a charity, so every investment has to have some expected outcome. Right now investing in extensive updates/videos/diaries/whatever isn't going to get them a single penny. All the Angry Space Nerds wailing about boycoitting if [x] isn't done right now are going to buy the DLC anyway if it turns out to be fun.
Don't get me wrong, I'd much appreciate more info too and it annoys me that they are so silent, but it is not some bizarre unheard of immoral behavior.

Normally it is the other way around: a company like Tencent isn't going to bother with the details of any project, but FD will definitely take their desired results into consideration. In other words, if FD says:"we're planning to do [x], and we expect it to be very profitable!" Tencent wont even care what [x] is. But if FD wants to do [y], for example some extreme DLC for ED, they might decide to instead do something else if they suspect it wont live up to Tencent's expectations.

There's also the possibility that Frontier will do good work and receive the plaudits. If, at present, there's not enough plaudits, there's always the possibility that's there's not enough good work.its unlikely but far more likely that individual devs, story writers, lore developers and CM team or even Moderators will lose motivation, leave or move on and we will get told less and less coz its easier to deal with salt for no news than every single bit of info thats released....and then people will whinge that the old crew ere much better.
