Serious question re: the revamp.

With talk of removing pages such as community events I'm deeply concerned about archiving things like the entire back history of the Buckyball Racing Club ..

I'm curious to this as well.

My current rep power is 5, although if I use the guide posted, it should be either 7 or 8 when adding everything up (depending on whether we start at 0 or 1).

Will we all be reset to a rep power of 1?

Me too, Alec, me too. From experience with other IT/coder personnel (some different incidents), who would happily break any permalinks and erase some history because ... reasons, this doesn't seem to be a far-fetched fear.

Seriously, it would be quite insane to save every single page of the innumerable Fuel Rats/Buckyball/Whatsoever posts. But this anyone would have to do who wants to have an insight into their history and development.
So ... please, please, don't.

Another thing about blending the forums together:
Did I miss something or does that mean a Elite : Dangerous user will now have not only the Dinosaurs stomping through his or her Activity Stream, but also those Yuppies in pink cars?

Please don't. The Activity stream would become quite useless and very annoying. Dinosaurs are absloutely enough to serve the Annoyance Level.

Hopefully there'll be a complete backup made of the existing forums, which will persist somewhere in FD towers for a while.

So if anything gets missed by Brett & Co during the changeover (it's inevitable, let's face it) then it should be a relatively simple job to move it across.

Thinking specifically about the Design Discussion Archive forum which hasn't been confirmed that it'll be moved across (only the ABF, PBF and DDF).

I think post-likes / dislikes might prove to be a bit of a pain... Wasn't the negative rep in this forum disabled because of issues with it?

Rep Levels are converted to the Trophies System.

Rep power does not exist on XenForo as it's a simple post likes system.

Have been thinking about a "Disagree" reaction, but will likely stick to the basics.

Using Cocalarix's ED 2018 Roadmap thread, this is what the post likes looks like...

Note that this is the basic XenForo2 theme, our design team is still working on the new themes. :)

For some reason my mouse pointer didn't get captured on this, but it's currently over the "Like" bubble. The other four reactions shown might not be on the final version - still deciding on how we're going to go with it.

On the left side, you can see who and how many other people have reacted to the post. On vBulletin, Cocalarix would have gained at least 69 rep points at base - without mathing in the rep power bonus.


When you view his popup-profile, you see that he has 475 reactions aka Likes or in vBulletin sense, rep points.

Points are trophy awards given to him. It is 0 as Cocalarix has not logged into the "new forums" yet - granted, he wouldn't be able to in the first place. ;)

Could you please remove the Facebook like icon? just having that on a site means Facebook can track what anyone is doing even if they don't click on it or have a Facebook account.

Oh gawd, does it??? I don't doubt you, but where did this get found out??

Time to have a thorough review of my firewall rules and java block list again...

I can't remember where I found out, it was many years ago and I doubt Facebook have change their practices since then. Feel free to research it and let me know if I am wrong, not being sarcastic (hard to tell when seeing text on a screen) I honestly have no issue with being wrong if I am wrong.

I aslo doubt it's something your firewall would stop as we're talking about trackers and cookies. Again, feel free to research that, don't take my word for it, I often don't get these things completely right.

Ah, I think it seems to be related to where a site has an actual Facebook "Like" button embedded into it, rather than a "Like" button that is implemented by the site itself: https://www.abine.com/blog/2012/how-facebook-buttons-track-you/ and https://www.grahamcluley.com/facebook-using-ads-track-including-non-users/

Trackers and cookies that make it past the firewall usually get eaten by my javascript and cookie block lists, and even if they did, they get deleted quite rapidly afterwards :)

Worth checking out though, thanks for the info - it always pays to be vigilant :)

It isn't actually a Facebook "like" button, it just looks similar. I see the rest of the reaction types are also lifted straight from Facebook as well.
