Forums are Depressing

Yes, indeed. More infos about the development and progress of the game would be fine. Any News on future Content would also be nice. I am waiting patiently for the next Updates for the horizon Session because the engineers are not my case.

Oh why did you have to put that image in my mind?..a butch, moustachioed dude in a majorette's uniform..ewwwww!

You want some more of that action? Here's one of me warming up this morning:

Dude, this is the general forum, it's like the Daily mail comments section of Elite dangerous. If you want substance visit the Exploration/Ships subforum, many other nice corners of the forum.

The main forum is just generally noise, it's like that with most main forums.

If this is like the Daily Mail maybe we could get the mods to wear Bikinis and walk in the sea while we F10 screen shots like crowds of trolling Paparazzi ?

Then the Guardian reading Explorers could discuss how awful we all are while simultaneously blasting Barnacles to kingdom come so they can sprinkle them on their Quinoa, imported in such bulk it's driven half of the Empire into Famine.

You're right this is depressing !

There are always going to be people for and against any topic, always the optimists and pessimists, glass half full and half empty. Human nature, so until you change human nature, the forums will never change.

Always back the underdog that wants to rattle the system... It makes for the most fun! ;)

FD the forums could benifit from some attentions, like a news drop or something because right now, ITS JUST A WINE FEST , and there is no cheese to go with it

threads like "i quit", "i uninstalled ED because im mad at RNG" or "grinding sucks" are spamming up, I MISS THREADS DEBATING A NEW and UNEXPECTED FEATURE, im sure other people do to

the game doesn't need fixing the community dose

Aren't you the author of 4 or 5 of the most worthless threads currently or recently (this weekend) on the forums?

It can be pretty sad filing a bug report and seeing just how fast it ends up buried several pages deep.

that's what happens without some usable public BTS (bug tracking system)

no filters, no quick search, no linking/grouping no attachment to internal BTS etc. ...

reporting bugs into forums may work for some indie title with some hundred users
not for AA company with multi-million users product ...

state the forum is in now, if i met any one from the forum, in game , i would immediately grief them

Good luck with that. Some People on this forum are a good part of why I have pretty much only played in solo since launch, possibly nearer gamma.
Ps forum name is not cmdr name either, if you greif me in game you will be head of networks at Google in a month lol

Game needs fixing, community is reacting with passion to the dying passion of game designers, who no longer enjoy working on the game.
I remember when i first fell in love with ED, and i came to the forums to see the upcoming features and join the community, and back then the community was nice..... well , nicer than now, back then the NEWS LETTERS HAD ACTUAL NEWS ,back then PEOPLE DIDNT INSULT YOU BECAUSE OF CONFLICTING OPINIONS

i get death threats when i say "FD should close solo"

WHA.....WHY? its a game, you act if i was stealing the food from your children

im almost 100% sure that most forum users dont even play ED anymore .......... witch im sure isnt surprising

and don't even get me started on the mods , (because they will close the thread if i do)

And we're listening. We know you guys aren't happy with some aspects of the game, unfortunately changes do not happen overnight or at the blink of an eye. If we make changes to something already on live... we do have to consider the pros and cons to the short term and long term effects of it.

So, weekly Dev updates to return then? Excellent news :)

No offense, but a lot of the time it looks like you guys don't consider the long term effects of changes (e.g. people rage-quitting over the AI and unbalanced engineering mods), or their integration into the base game (e.g. PowerPlay being pretty divorced from the minor factions, the superpowers, and the mission system), and just throw things in as and when they become available (e.g. marking goods as unsellable after scans, before implementing fences, or ways to remove the 'stolen' flag, or ranking up with the superpowers being so simplistic). I'm sure a very good defence to this would be 'it's a complicated product, and we can't foresee all possible outcomes when things go live with players', but the sheer volume of things that feel like a first pass, or a placeholder, that then don't get balanced till the next point release seem to be adding up.

I'd make an argument for longer beta test periods, and the return of some form of 'open-to-all' DDF where proposed changes and ideas are bounced round with the general community (not just player groups - include single and solo players as well!). Yes, it would be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, but you might be able to avoid some of the more egregious pitfalls, and gauge the mood of the community (e.g. presenting RNG results using 'slot machine' or 'roulette' type graphics is bad m'kay! ;) ).

We love it. We want it to get better. Loved Elite for over 20+ years...... Can't give up that love so easily. Who cares about being bashed by others for your thoughts, it's just words, and you can ignore it all together. The good thing is we continue. A game of this caliber and history will have lots of passionate gamers giving their opinions about it.

I believe you and your team are listening. I believe visuals team, audio team, AI team of one and others are working hard. It is the core game systems design team, that needs overhaul or teambuilding or motivational speaker or whatever.
Whether you admit it or not, ALL the rage is directed against them. Game is stable, looks cool, ships are nice (Panther Clipper when?), combat is reaaasonably balanced, meta shifts from time to time etc etc. It is the game design, the point, the will to live if you will, that is the weakest link, dragging whole caravan down, slowing everything, poisoning all the wells along the way.
Also, the fact you are listening is not reinforced by you being (only) community manager, your job is to soothe us and gather input and pass it along.
It should be reinforced by weekly dev updates, by game designers reflecting on game strengths and weaknesses, game designers that ponder and go thru all the complaints and really show understanding of the complaints and proove to us by demonstration, that matters are indeed far more complex, than stupid players realize (not that i believe it, i subscribe to game designers are actually burned out theory). To really show us, you get deeply what troubles player base. To hint, what solutions you are pondering, to share with us speculations you are considering. And yes, to hint regularly what is in the works. Your PR pushes with each release no longer help you that much. These days, players start by checking forum, checking review averages and trends in player retention. These numbers are not helped by FDev idea of cunning marketing and information hoarding.
FDev has a hard work to do, but so far, they are taking the easy way and been doing so for quite some time.

Even cheerful streams sounds painfully forced. Tightlipped bored game designer and some brighteyed young community manager, who longs for shot of vodka to be able to keep going.

The only thing "poisoning the well" is people who think you can direct "All of the rage" at some blokes who're just trying to design a game for everybody. They don't deserve any of us basement dwelling, mountain dew swilling internet bad asses to direct ANY rage at them. If they ever seem discouraged, it's probably because so many people are always denigrating them on these forums.

I've also set aside the fact that I think you're opinion is way out in left field; when I play Elite, I totally feel the love of it's creation, despite the fact that it's coming along slow with some road bumps. The love and passion of its creation is perfectly obvious to me.

Keep your rage where it belongs; to yourself.

When was this mythical time when the forums were nice?

There has always been fighting, whining, moaning, etc. Maybe back before ED was launched it was ok. I guess some of the older forumites might be able to attest that 5+ years ago it was a very nice and quiet forums.

But since ED was launched... well, let's say we have a full spectrum of people on these forums.

They were nice in 2006

Well, that's a possible value of around 68000 people who have visited these forums since you've created this thread then. ;)

Happy hunting, i guess? :p

Love it how people make up random numbers with absolutely nothing to back them up. ;-)

Oh yes for a change we can believe the numbers.

If the internet just got broken it was Brett's fault

I completely agree. There are some flaws, but overall the game is awesome. FD are aware of the faults in ED and are addressing most of them.
.
I took a look through the poster whom you replied to's history. He seems to be a rather sad individual.
