Fourth Anniversary

I am worried its going to be some crocodilian.
There's a good chance it will be.

Anyway, I say this a lot, but some of the picks in this thread are utterly bonkers for the anniversary. It feels like a lot of you are looking at Frontier like it's a family friend rather than a business. The anniversary gift is an act of corporate goodwill to maintain their brand, not a gesture of altruism. Anything free will always be the minimum standard and something they don't think will sell; i.e. a species that they aren't going to put in a DLC. It's not going to be a flying bird, it's not going to be a complicated model, and it's not likely to be a species around which there is a high expression of need (so nothing in like the top 15 of the meta wishlist).

In terms of what we should be looking at, it's species that have gained a lot of discussion in the context of the anniversary. Simplistic animals that people want but wouldn't want to take up a DLC slot. The American flamingo, Nile crocodile, and even the Eurasian brown bear are potential options. I would say the European bison is another one; it's widely considered an essential European species but usually when it's discussed the general feeling is "yes but there's stuff I want more". That's where it hits the anniversary gift sweet spot; popular, not worth a DLC slot, easy to make.

Anyway we're days away, so we'll soon find out.

I wouldn’t say things that are at that level of simple. The Red Deer was a pretty unique design even when it was based off the fallow deer, they changed its size, colours, textures, etc. to upgrade the model. I agree with your point that they’ll probably choose an animal that won’t sell in a DLC, but I think there’s a tad more interesting species than wisent, flamingo (which doesn’t take any work at all), or brown bear that would still be in their wheel house of possibility.

My Top 3 Wanted:
Any monkey, preferably squirrel monkey (based on capuchin) or grey langur (based on proboscis monkey)
A phesant of any kind (based on peafowl)
Any crane or stork of any kind (based on flamingo/crane)

My Top 3 Least Wanted:
Nile crocodile - its another big crocodilian, something we already have 3 of.
Cuban flamingo - literally just the greater flamingo with saturation turned up. Otherwise looks and acts the same, so doesnt really offer anything new on the gameplay front
American black bear - unless they add a brown colormorph so i can use it as an actually good looking brown bear.

I agree with the business aspect. Its all about money.

Like I said earlier I’ll be happy with anything as it’s a free animal after all. Personally based on the past unless it’s a animal we got some form of decor for in game but no animal that’s got a chance. I mean the red deer statue and bushes existed in game at launch for a reason. The meta wishlist had nothing to do with it. I’m sure frontier plans these things out more than we know. I really do think things like spectacled bear, Grey crown crane, etc will be dlc material. ABB, giraffe, zebra and so on subspecies will have better chances. Could be wrong but I’d be very surprised.

I love the red deer, I guess I am a ungulate fan.

List your top 3 wanted anniversary animals and your top 3 least wanted animals.
Top 3 wanted:
Perentie
Blackbuck
A small tortoise species (radiated, Indian star or leopard)

Top 3 least wanted:
I mean it's a free animal so I'm not too fussed whatever we get, but I'd rather one that isn't nearly identical to a species we already have (example: I'd be down for another croc, especially an African one, but I'd rather it not be the Nile crocodile. Slender-snouted croc for the win)

The Red Deer was a pretty unique design even when it was based off the fallow deer, they changed its size, colours, textures, etc. to upgrade the model.
It was made out of the reindeer, not the fallow deer. It still used assets that were developed at the same time as the base game. It isn't actually all that unique, either; it's our fourth deer. The red deer is a good example of exactly what I'm talking about.

Top 3 Wanted
• Wisent
• Linnaeus’ Two Toed Sloth (WE)
• American Flamingo

Top 3 Least Wanted
• American Black Bear
• Nile Crocodile
• A Tortoise

I’m sorry, I just think we have a decent selection of habitat reptiles already, and another tortoise in the base game would be overkill. I’d rather see it in a DLC tbh. The only habitat reptiles we need now are semi-aquatic turtles.

I'd love a base-game clone for each continent, a little something for everyone. Don't think they'd give us clones of DLC animals but filling out the base game roster with more continental diversity would be amazing. Something like:

Europe: European Wisent (American Bison clone) or European Brown Bear (Himalayan Brown Bear Clone)

North America: American Black Bear (Asiatic Black Bear Clone) or American Flamingo (Greater Flamingo Clone).

South America: Brazilian Tapir (Baird's Tapir Clone) or Chilean Flamingo (Greater Flamingo Clone).

Asia: Sumatran Tiger (Bengal Tiger Clone), Green Peafowl (Indian Peafowl Clone) or False Gharial (Gharial Clone)

Africa: Drill (Mandrill Clone), Roan Antelope (Sable Antelope Clone) or Rothschild's Giraffe (Reticulated Giraffe Clone).

Oceania: Perentie (Nile Monitor Clone) or Freshwater Crocodile (Saltwater Crocodile Clone)

This. It baffles me at times what expectations are set here or in some YouTube Polls etc. Maybe I'm extra sensitive to it since I'm my own boss and have a business, that I get a big "what" in my head with some kind of those wishes FOR FREE.
Whatever Frontier can make money of, animal wise, they will and rightfully so!
Top 3 most wanted:
  1. American Flamingo
  2. American Black Bear
  3. African Spurred Tortoise
Top 3 Least Wanted:
  1. Nile Crocodile
  2. Ungulate #15 or whatever of this year
  3. Bird based on the Indian peafowl

I always love how my top wanted animals is typically everyone else's hated ones :ROFLMAO:
You know, I just make it easy for myself and cling onto you with my most wanted / least wanted, especially since we share the ungulate overdose. I'd change the Tortoise to the Sumatran Orang Utan though and want to stretch that I don't want any Crocodile as a free gift or DLC animal, pretty please. I mean, of course, any gift is appreciated, but I would just never use it.
