Fourth Anniversary

That might be, but I still dout those players - who obviously did not care to get the game right away at fuill price - sit there and think "wiuld I'd rather like an animal from South America or one from a specific biome? Do we have enough ungulates?"
If you wait several years to buy a base game cheaper, chances are you assume you won't spend 1000+ gaming hours in it. Those are probably not the people who think in animal nerd terms. Would be the same if I'd buy a random Transport Simulator now (I even forgot what the most popular game is called....) just to drive a train for a few hours. I most certainly would not know about specific train types and what are most common on railways and where they come from etc.
Possibly, but given the technical requirements of the game at launch they might have been waiting for a new computer before buying (yes, I know geforce now, but not everyone know about/ has a stable internet connection/ wants to pay a subscription). I know three people in rl who are interested in PZ but are waiting until they upgrade their computers to buy it.

That's kinda why I hope we don't get any highly requested species as an anniversary gift.

If we get a wolverine, for example, I'd feel like that would be a bigger waste. Not only would we get an animal that could've been easily put in a pack, but we'd have less chances to get any kind of lower, clone species, like the ABB or American flamingo
As much as i want the Wolverine as soon as possible, I would be concerned if we got something so highly requested for free. It would make me think the end is coming very soon, and it wouldn’t fit the theme of the next (last) pack but they still really wanted to get it in.

Well yeah the Wolverine is a bit of an extreme since it’s number one, I was meaning an animal that’s highly requested that wouldn’t be an icon in a future pack.

No, I just used it as an example. What I was trying to say was that if we are to get a popular, requested animal, like a spectacled bear, then we're less likely to get the more unpopular choices, like the gray fox.
Popular animals will sell way better and can probably be put into more DLC rosters than something unpopular or not as wanted, like the ABB.
I mean, I'm not against having a grey-crowned crane, for example, and I'd love to have it, but I'm also the kinda guy who would love a Mexican wolf because I know it won't sell well otherwise
I cant wait for the anniversary animals just so that there wont be 5 threads talking about their very unrealistic expectations for the anniversary animal. Its a small gift that should be appreciated and thats it, people really are blowing this way out of proportion
Pretty much my opinion as well. It's free, we don't deserve it, we don't need it, so why not be happy with whatever we get. If we get a 4th lemur, that's great. If it's the grey-crowned crane it'll be a beautiful, lovely addition. If it's the gray fox, then I would probably explode

Most Wanted:
1. New World Monkey
2. Tree Kangaroo
3. Patagonian Mara
Least Wanted:
1. Anything that isn't kept in zoos
2. Most birds...
3. American Black Bear

It's free, we don't deserve it, we don't need it

We think in paterns for something that we dont know enough for to see a patern.
Thats why all these threads are rather pointless. Sure theorising is fun but most of the suggestion either are bonkers and sound unrealistic at best or plain boring.
Doesnt help that instead of explaining why people think animal xy would be a good inclusion everybody just spams long lists of clone animals or not so much clone animals that they like. The fact that most of these animals have been talked about to death doesnt help either, so i really dont see the point in hyping it up so much.
While i personally like far and wide speculation, this is the one thing where it would be really beneficial to go in open minded with low expectations because from all we know we could be getting some great animal that enritches its enviroment greatly like the black bear or we could get base game animal x in a better model or none of those and end up with idk 5 more poison dart frogs. Im not saying any of these would be bad, its a gift afterall it can only be good cause its literally free content, but at the same time they really arnt worth talking so much about.
Especally with things like top and bottom 3 like what?
The 3 gifts i want least? We are still talking about gifts and also everything is a possibility. I might personally really do not care for the coyote but if its the anniversary animal what am i suppoused to do? Get mad about it? Its a literal gift and treating it as something we are entitled to just kind of ruins the fun.
Sure there are some that id appreciate more like a new world monkey for example, but again its a gift so its free to be literally whatever frontier wants to gift us.
It could be shere coincidence that the last 2 gifts patched up things lacking with the game (madagascar and europe) but in the end new animal is a new animal and every animal has atleast some worth, even something as redundant as the coyote.

My gut is still saying rhea and I really hope it is right.

Honestly, I think there is a high chance we get something South American. Frontier almost certainly will have come aware of the demand in the past year and there is quite a few easy clones they could make that would greatly satisfy people. The rhea is probably the most obvious of these.

I feel like we think to much in patern when we discuss about the anniversary animal.

Nobody though the red deer would be a anniversary animal but here we are.
This is my thought! I think its kind of ridiculous to make hard and fast rules for an anniversary animal. Is there a higher chance that it'll be a cheap "clone" ? Yes, of course! Is there a chance it won't be? Most likely not, but there IS a chance.

Let's be honest, this thread is really "everyone's personal wishes that they think are clony enough to be given out for free."

And do those people look at the current base game animals and think "there is really a lack of South American animals?"
That was my point. I know real life exist, with money issues, computer problems etc.
But the initial discussion was, if any free aniversary animal should be based on factor X, like region, type etc.

If it was a clone I’d definitely be rooting for any of these in no particular order

Like I said I’m open to any animal just a few favorites. I’m sure I can always find some use for whatever we get in my personal zoos.
I like most of these ideas. Hoping it's not another tiger though. But if it is, I wouldn't really complain - it's free after all. I just would rather it be something else.

Yes, since one of them specifically asked me if the game has capybara in it. I think that the kind of person who buys a zoo game is the kind of person who, generally, wants to watch their favorite animal on demand. A lot of favourites are covered in the base game, but a lot aren't and those people are likely to buy dlcs.

The only one I think this might break down for is penguins since the average person might buy the arctic pack for penguins then get frustrated when no penguins and return the game entirely. I have no way of knowing if this actually a problem or not, but if it is I woildn't be shocked if we got a rockhopper as the anniversary animal to address it.

If anybody buys a dlc with no penguin expecting a penguin and gets upset when the dlc shop pages are very clear on the animals inside them, thats the level of stupidety and incompetence where it really shouldnt be assumed in a discussion.
And if anybody actually did that, their opinion would be more then a little invalid.
If they want a penguin, they should actually take the pack with a penguin in it, which isnt hard to find as the aquatics king penguin stands right there big and chonky on the dlc list

To the first part: Again, that is wanting specific animals, NOT animals searched by taxonomie or region. It does not negotiate my point in any way, as I specificially said the average player does not care if region X is more represented than the other. Again: My point is that the average player, who only has the base game, does not care where an animal comes from or if it's a rare canine or an ungulate etc.

And if the average player buys the ARCTIC pack and expects penguins, they might actually know absolutely nothing about regional animals, which underlines my point. Plus, as König said, it's known which animals are in which pack.
