Franchise Community Challenge Discussion

I've grabbed one of my 2mil old alphabet zoos and rigged up a huge habitat for Rhino, Otter and Binturong. Will see how they work out. Rhino we know works.
Just checked Steam forums and there is a discussion there going on .. I've posted our list there too.

They've added the following NOs to the list
Asian Small Clawed Otter
Clouded Leopard

And the following YESs
Timber Wolf

Someone else is also jumping between forums rofl.

I think I am starting to see a possible correlation between successful releases and unsuccessful ones. But .. need to check the unsuccessful ones to see if they match what the successful ones are pointing to. Here's a collage of the visual of where the animals can be found.

And another link to the list :

I had a few 3/4/5 star animals as a result of building my zoo for this challenge sitting in my trade center.

I think I am at 10 or just over now. (some combination of elephants, rhinos, peafowl, and tigers)

The issue I am having is that so many of these animals have such long life/breeding cycles. To keep a sustainable stock and cycle them through when they hit 3 stars takes a lot of in game time. I am going to repurpose a few of my exhibits. I think I will run 2 tiger habitats and make my elephant exhibit massive with a lot of females. Pre-building these zoo I have been able to get myself in a pretty good place money wise, so I am not overly worried about feeding costs.

I will be putting most of my male elephants on the market for cheap and buying one very good one every 12-14 in game years; when that Bull male's offspring cows start to come of age.

I am curious people's strategy on Peafowl. With the long lifecycle of this challenge, I will want to live in speed up mode, so I don't want the inventory management that can come with peafowl. They are easy to look after and cheap to feed though. I am thinking of letting my females have one clutch of chicks, then putting them on contraceptive until they are 3 stars. In my experience this is taking like 15 in game years.

I think 100 is going to be my goal for this challenge - although I think it is a lofty one.

I think maybe only the base game animals are included in this challenge. It's weird because previous challenges included DLC animals most of the time.

These are the visual locations of the unsuccessful ones. But as Annie said, maybe location isn't the factor on these ones, but whether it's base or dlc . Although, barring a couple that mess up the theory, it seems only those in a thin slither of an area in or near North India is working.

Looking at DLC/Base Game considerations .. Red Panda is not showing as a DLC animal. But that one is down as not counting. Similarly, Chinese Pangolin.
But it does show promise that Greater Flamingo will work, if we can get them to 3 stars. As well as Himalayan Brown Bear. But most that fit the India area are DLC animals. So does limit the options if the source is a factor.

I was coming to a similar conclusion - the challenge is for animals native to a small village near Delhi :)

Thanks for the heads-up with the wolves - I had two who were both elderly and ***; released them, probably just before they became infertile
Now need to get the other pair back from the other zoo and gradually begin the wolf:dhole takeover

This is the full list of which species work and what amount of appeal is needed to reach 3 stars:

Bengal Tiger 6234
Gharial 2909
Himalayan Brown Bear 4156
Indian Elephant 6650
Indian Peafowl 831
Indian Rhinoceros 4978
Saltwater Crocodile 2909

I am wondering if this is the type of challenge it would be worth while to set the ageing of the animals to 2x or 3x? A lot of them are not at all challenging to get to the stars needed, but the time it takes can be crazy long.

Yeah, I just found a family of timberwolves I had in storage, so time to add them to my T-Z zoo

Binturong a NO then ?

My apologies; I thought someone had said no already, but can't find that on either forum
So still unknown for now . . .
I've got one at *2 and will let you know once it hits 3*, but that might take a while
(& hopefully someone else gets there first, as he's my linchpin for breeding more)

Binturong is a no. :( Just tried releasing a 3* binturong and it didn't count towards the challenge.

I really hope they fix this, just as they did with the temperate challenge that was bugged the same way that we discussed on the very first page of this thread. That also had a bunch of animals not working, but later on there was some kind of fix and all animals started to count afterwards. I reeeaally hope they do the same this time...

Thanks for this context. I was going to move all of those animals (Otter, Binturong, Wild Water Buffalo, Etc. out of my zoo permanently, but I will keep them around in case it does get patched. Not a lot of time to make it happen though!

Yeah, if I remember correctly they didn't fix it until a couple of days into the challenge that time though - and reading back on the conversation on the first page right now we did end up failing that challenge. I really hope they make a quick fix this time around before too many people "waste" releasing their animals that they've saved up for the challenge and then end up not working...
And well.. I also hope we get a fix at all? 😅 I remember I wasn't expecting it last time, I don't dare to expect it this time either - just hopeful. ;)

Is anyone else having to reply to posts to post something ? It doesn't happen all the time but once it starts it doesn't stop rofl.

Anyway .. Have got Wild Boar set up to see if they work, but seeing as they are DLC sourced, they might not. Off to find my flamingo flock.

Personally up to 6 released now .. Gharials and Timberwolves 3 of each rofl

Steam has the following

no Asian Water Monitor
yes Greater Flamingo
no Striped Hyena
no Sun Bear

Updating list but think thats all of them now having at least one person who tried to release them and either succeeded or failed
