From ZERO to CUTTER? in one go...

I just completed Imperial rank grind today. I started yesterday from Squire.

2 hours last night.
2 hours this morning.

About 5 missions one way and the full 20 on the return trip.

Much faster than when I did the Fed one, glad I got it in before FD decide to do something about it.

Ya, the rank grind got silly easy since 3.0 dropped. it took me a couple months get get my Fed and Emp ranks.

The difference though is that by the time I had the rank to get a big locked ship, I had made enough CR to actually get the ship. Since it's easy to get the rank now, unless the CMDR is already rich, they will have to grind out the CR instead of the rank.

It is much easier to rank up now. Get it while it's hot, friends!

I was stuck at Duke for the Empire for over a year. Ranked up to King in less than 2 hours.

I never bothered with federation ranks until this past weekend. I was at Midshipman. Four and a half hours later I was at Rear Admiral. Another two and I was an Admiral in the Federation. It was was a role playing dream.

I was the scrappy upstart Naval Midshipman with a chip on his shoulder and plenty to prove. One day I was noticed by a ranking officer with a lot of pull, and my star began to rise. I took all missions, assassination, salvage, data delivery, sanctioned murder, whatever they had. Sure, I have blood on my hands, but I can live with myself. I'm a soldier and did what had to be done...

I am still just a Duke in the Empire, I’ll need to fix that, but I managed to go from cadet to 85% of the way to Vice Admiral in just a couple evenings. When they inevitably crank the progress back down, I hope they don’t crank it down too far. I’d like to get a couple ranks on my PS4 account but cannot at the moment. This rate of progress doesn’t feel tedious, and getting to Duke most certainly did. I don’t like tedious.

My main account got to Duke/Admiral back in 2.4. I read about the change and decided I would work on my second account while it was relatively easy.
From nothing to King took a few 2hr play sessions over a long weekend. I had 3 Imperial factions in each station offering me more courier/boom missions than I could accept and after the first Naval Rank mission, was at 100% right through to King.
I was getting offered a rank-up mission at least at every second station visit.
Now, doing Fed rank at Ceos/Sothis, there is only 1 Fed aligned faction at each of the 3 stations. The courier/boom data missions are still coming thick and fast, but I can't seem to get rank-up missions. I tried flipping from open-solo-PG-solo-open at each station but still no missions. Not sure if it's just because there is only 1 Fed faction in the area or what, but it is a bit annoying. I spent over 3 hours flipping each station's mission board as I jumped around running other missions with no luck.
I think it may be time to go and try finding another Fed controlled station and see if it changes.

So after seeing a bunch of these reports I decided to hop back into the cockpit after a couple weeks hiatus and give it a go. Sure enough, in one day I've gone from my previous rank of Squire to full Knight and have obtained the INV strike mission necessary for my next promotion. What I'm wondering is, did anyone else have any difficulty finding their mission targets when running these missions? I've scanned scanned and destroyed three pythons and a conda that are all from the faction I'm supposed to be targeting, but only one was labled as a mission target (all four were wanted so I at least got good bounty payouts) but four hard earned kills for one out of ten on my mission progress is a little frustrating. I've never encountered this issue before, thoughts?

I've had never ending problems finding mission targets. Don't do those anymore. Best avoid and look for another mission.

Would love too, but to my understanding each level requires a specific style of mission to earn the promotion, in this case the Imperial Navy strike mission to go from Knight to Lord will be exactly that anywhere else I go; there won't be say an Imerial Navy courier mission available for this specific rank. I could be wrong........?

Is there a convenient place to do fed ranking, with loads of missions?

I was at Barnard's Star and it was pretty good but it went in lockdown last night so I had to move to Sol which is pretty good too. I went from cadet to ensign, got a little bored so have just taken a little trip to Maia to get me a couple meta alloy to give to Ms Farseer.

Take a Barry White CD, a bottle of Lambrini and plenty of KY when you visit her.

She’ll have that mass manager slapped on your G5 before you know it.

Because those who know of better places to do these missions do NOT tell the rest of the forums ,hence only Ceos and Sothis :)
So, enlighten us and post a few good locations to do these missions(a pair of locations for back and forth missions please)

For Fed rank? OK - I put my last two ranks for the Corvette on by running data missions between Dobrovolskiy Station in LHS 6031 and White Rose & Wylie Dock in Baker. Multiple Fed factions in both systems, the stations are 409ls (Dobrovolskiy), 51ls (White Rose) and 268ls (Wylie) from the entry points. You can also go to Roentgen Prospect if you don't mind the extra time for a planetary landing, it's on the planet that White Rose orbits.

Once allied with the Fed factions you could usually fill your mission limit without needing to relog in 2.4, no idea if 3.0's mission distribution has changed that though because I haven't been over there since the update. Unlike Ceos and Sothis though, they're slap bang in the middle of the bubble so there's always something that needs doing nearby.

Oh Dobrovolskiy and Wylie are outposts, so no large ships. Like I said I haven't checked it since 3.0 but there's no reason why it shouldn't still be fine; it's the close proximity of the two systems and the number of Fed factions that make them useful and none of that will have changed. With the new mission rewards system it would also probably be a good place to farm a load of EFCs etc if a commander was minded to do so.

(I was actually using LHS 6031 as my bulk passenger mission hub back before the nerf, discovering its usefulness for Fed ranking was just a happy accident. It's a binary system and although it takes about ten minutes to fly out to the secondary star (which you don't need to do for ranking) there are four stations and a surface base all within about 7ls of each other when you get there, all of which used to give passenger missions to 36 Ophiuchi, Medb and Mulachi which were all systems with destinations that paid anything up to 45m per mission.

Technically speaking - yes it is. What was different was my approach toward the goal. I didn't think of it as a goal per se. It was something I want to achieve but I didin't felt the pressure that I MUST achieve it in X hrs or before some deadline. I just played the game - picked a spot, loaded up missions and made it in a loop. By that definition core gameplay like exploration is grinding. All you do all day, every day for weeks is jump, honk, see what's inside, jump...

As people say - grind is in the mind. If you decide you must grind the rank, it'll be tedious and boring. I decided to run missions in a loop, rank came on itself. The same but different, from the certain point of view.
