Frontier: Can you sort out the mining, 'cos it's a bit rubbish just now?

Dear Frontier,

Can you sort out the mining, please, because at the moment it is rubbish. I accept you needed to adjust it, and bring down the profits, I'm fine with that, but leaving aside the continuing farce of the "Behind you!" pantomime with the Pulse Wave Analyser, what is really irritating me is that this splendid mining equipment, you have presented us with, doesn't actually work very well. Well, that's a bit unfair, all the pointy bits work fine, it's the "indicatiors" that I have a problem with. Probably best if I list them.

Sometimes the yellow ring indications generated by the Detailed Surface Scanner don't display at all, so you have no idea of the size of the area or if it overlaps with another. Why?

Very often an area designated as Void Opal rich with the Detailed Surface Scanner (just for example, and for an incoming pun) will seemingly be devoid of Opals! But more plentiful in other minerals. Why?

When you're trawling through the asteroid fields (and you're actually getting ANY indications from the Reverso-Vision PWA) the brightness now seems irrelevant to the yield, or if it has a core, or if it corresponds to the alleged contents of the field. I end up, after some hours of largely fruitless searching, thinking, oh well, I'll be out of prospector drones soon, so I can do something else. Why?

It would be great if you could sort this out, because I used to enjoy mining, it was a nice relaxing past time with some variety, some skill, and a nice chilled way to spend time, now it makes me cross and frustrated, and it's not about the money, it's about the kit not working, and the feeling that my time is not being respected.

I would appreciate some comment because this has been an issue for quite a while now.

P.S. Might the phantom sub surface deposits that you sometimes see floating in space after you move away from a prospected asteroid be related to the issue?
P.P.S. Still love you, man. :)

should have just done this to begin with imo

Q: am sure you will agree that as the Pulse Wave Analyzer has, as of today, been broken for 87 days, can you commit to going to the devs at some time before next week’s AMA and securing us some meaningful answers to the following inquiries?
A. What exactly is the issue causing the error?
B. As it was broken in a patch that included no notes on a change to PWA, how and why was it adjusted?
C. How did you expect to rebalance mining last week with meaningful data on players behavior when the PWA being broken removed 2/3 of the mining game play loops from ‘proper activity’?

We have answered the PWA question in our opening post however I will answer it again here for you...

The team and I are acutely aware of the PWA issue and the justified frustrations this causes our players.

We have been raising it with the development team who are currently working hard trying to establish what has gone wrong and why.

Please bear in mind that this is an incredibly busy time for them and they are also hampered by working from home, which despite the best efforts of everyone involved does affect the collaborative effort when it comes to solving problems.
A) I do not know what is causing the issues
B) There were no notes on it because there was no intention to alter it
C) The re-balancing used historical data as well as current, as was stipulated this is an ongoing process and one we will refine if required.

This is good stuff, but while acknowledging the sad state of the Pulse Wave Analyser and it's sadly departed Forward Looking capability, it is not the primary thrust of my post.

Void opals are (presumably intentionally) rare. I like mining in an LTD/void opal overlap, as then I get a good haul of LTDs and tritium, and usually find a core or two of void opals too.

the brightness now seems irrelevant to the yield

Pretty sure it always has been.

Very nicely phrased. Bonus question to be posed once the issue is resolved would be: “Why was there no acknowledgement of the issue for so long whilst players were trying to figure out (blindly) possible solutions/workarounds?”

Cant wait till u start enjoying the combat balance so we can then go back and break it too! U people never seem to get it we just like the unhappiness on your commanders face! Bromelite to all huzzah!

Don't need Bromelite, need Bromo-Seltzer 'cause all this negativity is making my tummy hurt.
Joking apart, I think was actually being positive and constructive about the issue. I love the game and have oodles of respect for FD (while not agreeing with all of their decisions).

It may have been acknowledged now, but it remains a valid question. Why did it take as long as it did? Yes, we have Corona vius, yes, we have people working from home, but how many person hours does it take to investigate, confirm the issue and keep your paying customers in the loop - and finally (Goodness me) to fix it?
