Frontier confirmed - Murder/PKing is a valid gameplay choice, can we all move on now?

I'm going to continue playing in Open mode, and continue to file reports against players killing me, because they're clearly abusing the system. Frontier will then have a record of these people to ban when they realise the mistake they've making by allowing player killing.
i have nothing against players doing as they wish but the offence must match the crime make the bounties wortwhile and the system security work as intendid in high security area expect a rapid fast lethal response and in less secure areas a lazy response and so forth but as it stands right now its too easy to do and too easy to get away with without harm

Posted this in Alpha/Beta its almost as valid now

Think of this as around the time of the Wild WIld west and you get the idea

Life was hard and tough and life was fairly cheap and punishments harsh

The sheriff would overlook 2 guys meeting at high noon and 1 killing the other, but would chuck you in jail for a fist fight in the saloon

The easy way to stop others killing you is to carry a bigger gun - problem is people want to spend money on 215T of some commodity instead of buying only 200T of cargo, leaving space for shields and/ora gun to protect themselves.
Fixed that for you ;)

Some folks only want to fly one of these:

why not just remove all guns from all ships and add an anti ram system to the engines while you're at it? after all, its not like we want players to actually be able to do anything in the game but trade with NPC's and explore empty systems after all. i mean, if someone shoots at you in a sandbox clearly the game design has gone horribly wrong.

+1, thsi would improve the game massively, at the moment it's just losing players

Michael also said "We'll continue to monitor and balance as needed and discussion like this is useful for us - without the name calling of course!"

So I guess they do want continued posts and discussion about it - you know to help them monitor and balance it.

Yes. This game still needs a lot of balancing in a lot of places and a lot of continued discussions on all of it.

This sir is where I believe you lack imagination.

Like I say, the benefits of being a murderer are not to be able to run around with blingy loud ships - but rather by having to play by stealth and guile.

That is the tangable benefit of the gameplay style - forcing you down a route that can be a lot of fun in other ways - it means having to make a map of networks of unsanctioned outposts and anarchy systems that have little security - it means you may be limited in the ships you can choose and the modules you can fit.

When Frontier talked about different grades of fuel (which seems to have been taken off the table) I always imagined it meant you would never be able to fill up on the good stuff.

What is a not tangable benefit to you might be to someone with imagination.

I was not inferring that there were no imaginable opportunities to enhance gameplay for criminal types - your statement was "Currently there is none of that in the game - the path of a criminal and murderer provides no tangible benefits." - it will be up to Frontier whether any such gameplay opportunities are included in the game.

Player killing is a valid play in the game, you should not report such players. Being killed by a player and/or NPC is part of the game and you need to get use to it or just start to play in Solo Mode.

Or he should report both players and NPCs, it's only fair.

The biggest issue I have with the current player kills player system is that the bounty for doing so is pathetically low, and easily cleared.

There needs to be a financial deterrent to destroying a Clean player in controlled space. Of course if that clean player ventures into an anarchy system all bets are off - although this should be balanced by given players an incentive to risk visiting those systems

I see PVP, PVP EVERYWHERE !!! WAHHHHH
Really, two community are fighting each other here. PvP games are absolutely not relaxing, they give anger and bad language.
I'm totally open for making PvP and I think I can understand why many players love it... But if Frontier allows players to kill each others, especially for no reason, the punishment should be very very very HIGH ! Since it's possible to disable "Report crimes against me", guys which are both consenting to do PvP just have to do that. But if a player kill another commander for no reason, no bounty, no cargo, nothing, this player should get a "PILOTS FEDERATION BOUNTY" (even in anarchic systems), making him wanted in every systems, unwipeable, a very high amount, can't be dormant, and security vessels should not stop to interdict him.
The "PILOTS FEDERATION BOUNTY" should me claimable everywhere by every player who killed a PlayerKiller.

This way, guys who want to make PvP will do more PvP and they will think twice before killing and innocent player. And it's still a "valid gameplay".
What would be great also is that the PILOTS FEDERATION hire NPC bounty hunters to kill those guys. NPC bounty hunters of the PILOTS FEDERATION should have a highly equipped vessel and a very high skill, especially for Player Killers.

Simply disable weapons within 1km of the dock/orbital.

Or give more than a small fine for firing in the no fire zone. Balance the cost/reward, right now the fines aren't worth worrying about if you can get much more out of killing someone, or if you have a huge credit account and can absorb it. Always said that it didn't make sense that the station turned a blind eye to all activity within its jurisdiction so long as the station didn't get hit. Doesn't matter what type of system its in, a station's property line should be order within, not chaos.

"Ya'll can kill each other, leave debris floating around, but don't scratch the station walls."

One thing I will say, following that statement I feel much less unfavourably towards combat loggers...

Not done it myself, but sympathy is starting to build.

I wonder if it's minor faction or major faction hostility than bans you from faction stations?

Imagine, your in Fed space, Fed is hostile to you and all Fed or Fed allied stations ban you. Oh dear

I'm fairly confident that in this specific context "hostile" means "you committed an explicit hostile act" like opening fire on another ship in a forbidden zone.

IMHO, if the station is armed to the teeth, commanders should be relatively safe in and around that station. It's flying out there among the starts, getting assailed along the way, where the PVP stuff should be going on. Note that while on pad, you can't even see if there are human players nearby--so any dock camper has a huge tactical advantage over you there as a result.

At an outpost which is practically naked compared to a station, that's probably fair game to be attacked at launch but I still want my ship radar functional right away to at least vet my survival prospects before taking off.

I'm not so enamored of open play that I couldn't switch to group play easily enough. I like the danger, but I also like some semblance of fairness. If I take risks, danger should come my way. If I'm just launching from a station, how is that supposed to be a risky endeavor?

did he say they were against griefing?

I think the issue is it would require some serious manpower to actually distinguish between griefers and pirates, despite the fact they are completely different if you look at them from a data perspective they might seem identical. Do think they should do something about exploiters at stations though can't get mixed up with pirates at that one.

yes, he did say that.

Also, it's very easy to distinguish between griefers and pirates, for example pirates stop shooting even though their target is not dead.

Why shouldn't I play in open play just because other people choose to be sociopaths? They shouldn't be allowed to ruin my gameplay experience and limit the modes I can play in with a game I PURCHASED.

maybe some research into the game would have helped you understand that NPC's are meant to shoot and kill you? Oh wait many considered THAT griefing also! Glad to see FDEV's stand up for the game they made that THEY wanted to play!

I don't see many NPCs, they're mostly players with the solid blocks

LOL, you're right. They're the only ones that say anything to me too. It's odd they always say the same things though, how do you select those canned phrases to send? :D
