I think Capitalism is great, but i`m not an idiot. I can see when Capitalism goes too far.

Also, some of you seem to think that Capitalism is about supporting anything as long as its `capitalism`, regardless of whether it might be detrimental to you or not. Yea, it`s a business, but don`t forget that WE are the customer, so we have a damn good right to oppose it if we belive it`s unfairly charging us.

Even in a capitalist society we have to have a Humane and moral duty to know where to draw the line. Even Donald Trump, a huge Capitalist, sought the Presidency because he was sick of how Capitalism was screwing over the American people (with all the outsourcing of jobs to foreign lands) for sheer greedy profit on profit. It`s why we`ve been seeing the US and America rapidly going down the globalist road- For extreme profit, not to make anything better for the ordinary person.

People everywhere are seeing this, hence Brexit, hence Trump... hence more to come.

Even Donald Trump knows where to draw the line and now seeks to fix it. This is why so many in the mainstream hate him; he threatens their greed at all costs. That makes him my favourite Capitalist cos he has a logical sense of reason. And he pays his taxes.

I doubt they wanted your support phrased this way.

"Be like Trump, be against Paid Beta!"

You have that right by not paying for it.

I also got one of these, no doubt I will get a second for my other account.

I no longer want to get these marketing emails from Frontier but there seems to be no opt out for them on my account settings page... Oh well I guess I'll just have to block all emails from Frontier due to this shortsightedness. How stupid to send marketing emails from the newsletter email account - this is marketing not news.

I guess you could just assume you were not invited and the world makes sense again.

It strikes me that many pushing for a free beta want to use the beta, which implies there is value to having the beta. If there is value, why not charge for it?

You are correct, people want to participate so there is a demand. A company is also free to charge what they want.

But.... the goal of a Beta, in my opinion, is to test and find bugs. (I.E. helping the developer)
These are players who want to help improve the game.
It's just bad form to charge people for a Beta. I agree with the OP, that e-mail was a bit much.

FD could have called it early acces and nobody would have had a problem with that.
There are tons of early-acces games on steam that are work-in-progress

LOL!!!
Charging players to test your game...You want me to pay you to work for you? What an absolute joke! No wonder this "game" is in the state it's in now. People that are defending a paid beta are beyond help, they already paid money to test a game.

I should start paying my boss so I can stay at work with this logic.

Nothing is for free these days.
I paid for beta access and I am happy with it.
I spent a little more than for big-mac, frites and cola, but the fun lasts much longer, and, as far as I well understand, it is not only for this particular beta, but for every next Horisons.
If one doesn't want to pay, then don't. I don't see what is for this whole fuss

FD weren't going to allow players access to beta unless they had been a kickstarter backer. People then demanded that they wanted access to it so there was oibviously a demand and they put it up in store.

The majority of people in beta aren't doing it to help improove the game, they just want to play with the new toys earlier and don't report the bugs they find.

In the beginning, programmers shared their code with other programmers for free. Everyone helped debug and even added code, for free, to enhance the function of the program.

We have long since changed from those days and there are far less programmers, working for developers, freely sharing their code. Sure, the different phases of debugging games and testing updates could be free. Sure, games could be given out free. Sure, paint jobs could be free. Sure, new content could be free.

We would not be experiencing the level of games we enjoy today had we not been forced to pay for code. As with any industry, greedy business goals tend to push for bigger, better, faster and more glorified products. Their greed has moved all aspects of QoL forward without question.

If you don't want to pay, don't. It is naive to believe a company should give you what they have for free... just doesn't make cents[sic].

They don't need more beta testers; they seem to be overwhelmed by the volume of feedback from those they have.

If you don't need more testers, you might as well have the money rather than not.

Fit for Purpose - When I buy anything it had better be usable for 7 years not 7 days. Sorry for being blunt but I hate getting marketing spam - Now I don't get the news letter anymore after un-subbing to it.

Stupid idea to send marketing emails from the newsletter email account.
And I was having such a happy fun day! :D

So am I not allowed to make a comment or give my feedback to Frontier?.

Feedback and comments are best not made with the imperative use of the verb. Your thread title reads like an order. It's bound to get peoples backs up. Learn to communicate better if what you intended was a comment or feedback.

If you instead intended to tell frontier to do what you want done then you did well.

That's the exactly problem I have with it:
getting marketing spam, on your newsletter account.
The newsletter I do want to receive, the marketing spam not.
But there is no inbetween, either I get both, or none.

Love it how some people in this community don't get that the primary purpose of a buisness is to make money, given the amount of threads we've seen recently. If people are dumb enough to demand to pay for beta access, it would be pretty poor way to run buisness if they didn't oblige.

They could always change to SC's buisness model and charge $1000 to buy a ship.

or to charge $1000 for cosmetics.

oh wait....

(the sum of all store items are way above 1000$ already!!!)

I thought more beta testers means more bugs found, which means more dev time needed to fix the issues.. They charge for beta, so that will pay for dev time to fix found problems and not come out of the main coffers!

PLOT!

If the game was bug free you didnt need a beta. You are arguing medicine shoukd only be free if noone is sick. Besides, it makes no sense either way: you dont get to decide what product should cost which amount. You are the consumer. You get to decide if you buy it.
My dear, you are doing again that thing that you do, and at this point you are not only predictable, but also annoying. I never said, not even implied, that betas should be free if there are no bugs to fix. I would try to rephrase my point to you, but you have shown consistently that you don't event try to understand anything I say, and apparently any objection against Elite or Frontier. So I am not even going to try. And even if I do try to explain, and even if you do understand, you will still be incapable of swallowing your words as you promised once and failed to comply. It is also concerning how you talk about economics as if you know what you are talking about. When you release the market from any restriction, the market is open to all sort of abuses.

You are confusing "finding bugs" with "fixing bugs". AFAIK there isn't a lack of people "finding bugs", but there is obviously a lack of developer time to triage those bugs and schedule fixes.
Yes, this is a nice distinction, You are right and I agree with you. And your argument does in fact changes the outcome of my approach. If a paid beta doesn't negatively affect the final quality of the game, then anyone not willing to pay should be satisfied regardless of whether or not they accessed the beta. But if the quality of the game suffers from the paid access, then there are legitimate reasons to disapprove such policy. In any case, paid beta is still usury, and leaves yet another bad antecedent for even more nefarious tendencies in the industry.

It would be interesting to have some statistics on how many active testers are there, how many of them are reporting bugs, how many bugs are reported and how many are fixed, and how many bugs were missed because of not enough testing. I guess we will never know, specially on the last point, and the discussion will arise again if 2.3 ends up being another bug fest to the current streak.
