You are right. In my language we use colloquially that word to mean abusive monetary behavior. But yes, you are right and that is not what I had in mind. Just a looser sense of the word. But it doesn't change the argument at all. It was just a misunderstanding. And on the last bit, I an open to change when proven wrong, as I am doing right now.usury noun
the action or practice of lending money at unreasonably high rates of interest.
It would help your argument if you knew the meaning of the words you are using, especially when you are chastising somebody for not understanding your point of view in the post.
Plenty would pay it, but probably not qualified test pilots.Would have been interesting to see a test pilot give Lockheed $150k for the privilege of testing their new aircraft![]()
usury could be a euphemism for an extortionate price associated with such an important basic concept as a beta test.
If anything, FDEV should be paying for beta testing players
When was the last time Lockheed was paid so that a pilot could test the limits of their new X-xyz plane?
One recent job ad posted on the website of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, based in Lancaster, Calif., show an FAA test pilot salary can range from $95,000 to $147,000 depending on experience. But salary depends on the job and the pilot's experience, says the SETP.

If you are right, then you don't need to make a strawman argument. It is abusive in the sense of charging for something that is usually free or paid work. All this under the context of having a game that is riddled with bugs, and a development pace that take several months to actually throw in updates to fix only a fraction of those all the while introducing several new ones.People demanded beta access, which initially only backers had, so FD decided to offer it up for sale. Don't see how it can be called abusive monetary behaviour. They were responding to what their customers were asking for. We just seem to have a trend on this forum of people demanding that FD stop making money. Am just waiting for the 'Make season 3 free to play' thread to come.
Uh, you get stickers too.FD are pure amateurs when it comes to making money from early access.
The going rate for getting alpha access to the KickStarter Pine is ... well have a look yourself.
Pine - An action adventure game that adapts to you
Fit for Purpose - When I buy anything it had better be usable for 7 years not 7 days.
How's that seven year old pint of milk doing?
I agree on the marketing from the newsletter sub, it would be better to have two separate unsubscribes. Adding ads into the newsletter will just have more posts here about 'I want a newsletter, this is ads'.
Wow, another "give us this for free" thread. Never seen one of those before . . .
No, is not one of those.Wow, another "give us this for free" thread. Never seen one of those before . . .
The majority of people in beta aren't doing it to help improove the game, they just want to play with the new toys earlier and don't report the bugs they find.
It would be interesting to have some statistics on how many active testers are there, how many of them are reporting bugs, how many bugs are reported and how many are fixed, and how many bugs were missed because of not enough testing. I guess we will never know, specially on the last point, and the discussion will arise again if 2.3 ends up being another bug fest to the current streak.
Its now cheese....I LOVE CHEESE.
And you're not seeing one here. Please read the OPWow, another "give us this for free" thread. Never seen one of those before . . .
Well said (emphasis in bold mine as I specifically agree with that part).I think the wording of email is a little odd..It's not really an "upgrade" is it?. It's like they are trying to sell beta features that are buggy and need testing as the completed product...which will be "free" for most any way. There is also a serious lack of "warning this is a beta, there will be bugs and problems" in the email. Also no message saying ; "Content created and commander progress gained will be lost once release occurs".
Reading that email I would assume that I can now create my commander in the beta and keep it. But that is not the case is it? You will have to recreate your commander when the beta is over and the release is official?
They do actually mention this when you follow the link. But I still think the main email advert is too flashy....just give the facts...don't tempt people and then have them go "oh..its not what I thought" when they click in and read the fine print.
To me it has that same sort of slightly dubious method of promoting ED that you see in the trailers etc.
