Frontier of development: I cant wait for next major update

I was a founding backer for ED, played for years, multiple times per week. Loved it. Can't play as much atm, but occasionally do. But i have noticed a lot of complaints about the game lately. How many games are there that you have played over multiple years? Even before the next update. My rant:

I believe David Brabam. He talked about a dream, in one of those early video's about a game that was basically living in space. I love that dream for a game.

He has setup a wonderful commercial mechanism to make it happen... in the real world. In my opinion. First ED was a base layer. Then the supporting tech to make buildings/citys with new Planet coaster etc......Then the tech to make LIVING worlds with Jurassic park. What is the tech called? Cobra. That's a spaceship. It might land on a planet and step outside to see citys and alien life one day, and I will enjoy ED again for multiple years to come if it does!

In meantime I look forward to Dec update.

Give them time.

Same here. Played original "Elite" back in 1980s and signed up for ED as soon as found out about this project being in development. I do remember interview with David Braben where he was talking about all this stuff. 2.0 "Planetary Landings" update was released in December 2015 and as of the end of 2019 we still waiting for landings on the atmospheric planets. I'm afraid by the time all these wonderful things will come true, ED will become obsolete and forgotten. There are more space games coming around and some of them already got it all.

They've had plenty of time, its just has that time been used to the fullest 5 years in to that 10 year plan. 3 years to kind of finish what was thought to be a planetary focused "season" dlc that was all over the place in terms of content.

If 'Dave' had the vision to create the first Elite game and the many to follow... He'll make this one atmospherically land with space legs....aslong as the commercial world and Trolls don't interdict him.

We don't get updates coz every fool with too much money bought cosmetics, so they have never had any pressure to deliver a paid update and they haven't yet . (y)

So enjoy the bad paintjobs and worse free updates ( they don't have to be good/working they 'free' ) and keep drinking ze koolaid.

This is the commercial risk that may happen, I hope not. But I haven't seen any that have the complex simulator style play that elite has, the accuracy of the galaxy, the great arcade style combat. And ships that feel like they have personalities, maybe that's because I'm an 80's child aswell! SC looks good for eg, but their 'boil the ocean' approach will take forever to do.

Let me know if there are other games that have these above aspects please!

I honestly believe most of the current problems are down to them shifting from the season model to an upfront delivery model. They've basically said so, in relation to why Beyond and 2019 have been thinner years for updates.

Pretty sure:

2017/18: they split the team in two. Half works on Beyond, half moves on to the New Era.

2019/20: most of the Beyond team move onto New Era leaving a skeleton crew to finish off some small updates for which the groundwork was already laid.

If that's right, 2020 has been worked on by more people, and for longer, than Horizons. It could be a pretty big deal.

That's why I'm not as up in arms about bugs and stuff at the moment. The skeleton crew will fix this stuff in time. I'd rather FDev didn't panic and start pulling people off the juicy 2020 stuff (which is all I'm really biding my time for) to fix Arx etc.

It better be good.

100% agree. This. It's a business that has to be resourced at end of the day.

True.
I never bought any cosmetics.
I would have bought every update, if they were for money, I would have complained about the quality and it would have changed nothing. I still will buy all coming updates. Whats wrong wiht me?

Nah. It's a boring mess.

We don't know anything official about the 2020 update except that it's a "New Era". Meanwhile we have actual in-game footage from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 that already is a game that I want to play RIGHT NOW, even in pre-alpha state!

I think "dream" is the key word for threads like this. This game is a religion for some, based on faith rather than fact. That's okay, I'm not one of those angry atheists trying to remove all the crosses in the world, so keep dreaming OP, I'm cool with it. Just don't be offended when I decline your invitation to join you at the church of Braben.

We’ll have

Thats the least of your worries!
