Frontier, please change the game rules and make griefing bannable!

So the OP gets one thing right. The people responsibile for PKing are FDEV.

This is FDEV's box, and FDEV is the group of individuals with the actual dark sense of humor, relishing the suffering of players.

OPEN PVE mode is beyond FDEVs capacity. They've got 20 years of mmo examples where PVE and PVP are partitioned through a variety of mechanics, but FDEV well - not so clever about history.

At this point, the best solution to a no Open PVE mode (in my opinion) is to eliminate rebuy costs (for pvp kills), restore data (for pvp kills), restore missions (for pvp kills), restore bounties and bonds (for pvp kills). (Notice no cargo restoration for PVP - got to have piracy)

This preserves PVP Open, and allows players to partake in the positive aspects of collaborative PVE play.

Given the reduced costs to PVP, there might be more players willing to try it.

FDEV must be ranking up in hell for all of the suffering they are inflicting with this DW2 event. It is pretty entertaining to watch the whole thing unfold.

The same should apply to the game. It can`t be a solution to play Solo! The griefers are the ones who have to face consequences - not the regular players! The griefers are the ones who the game and destroy it - not the regular players! So the griefers should be kicked out of the game!

A. The solution for anyone slightly sociable is to join any of the private groups, they have a 20,000 capacity.

B. Griefers are not destroying the game, in fact some of the best times I've had in ED is whilst outsmarting gank squads or wannabe psychopaths, also getting my rear handed to me and learning how to get the best out of my ships.

If you don't like the sound of B, please see A. It sounds like Open play isn't your idea fun, fair enough, that is what PG is for.

[h=2]The game is called Elite DANGEROUS . . .[/h]

Well this has been debunked numerous what dangerous in the title means, it is not the literal meaning of dangerous, it is simply the two top ranks for combat.

Combat ranks means nothing to a Griefer. They do not care what rank you are, if you are in a "weaker" ship, then you are a target, rank does not matter. and what weaker means is based on what loadout the griefer is carrying, as there are several loadouts that prey on heavily armed and engineered combat ships like the Federal Corvette.

As I understand it, griefing is already against ToS and is therefore bannable. FD just tend to govern with a light touch. Of course, if someone was banned for any breach of ToS we wouldn't be told; not by FD anyway.

And this is why Frontier developed the brilliant mode system.

+1, exactly. Brilliant are the modes! If you willingly decide to drink acid, don't complain about the burps. But lo! the modes have the power to lock out any sociopaths from your leisure time! So nice. Ok, the Beagle Station should be named "Brilliant Modes" then.

If you are getting repeatedly, and over a short period of time, like say one day, interdicted and killed by exactly the same players or player groups (not all PvPers are in the same group, fyi) this is griefing.

If you get rekt occasionally at CGs in a shieldless, weaponless cargo ship, by different people, it is NOT griefing.

If you can't even make the difference between griefing and getting killed for a valid reason, you really should stick to PG or solo.

Hauling stuff for the opposing side at a CG, flying into a system run by one power while being yourself pledged to an enemy power, getting killed by a powerplay player from an opposing power. If you are just module shopping or just pledged to Aisling Duval cuz "space waifu" then live with the consequences of flying in open and getting spotted by a CMDR pledged to another power.
Those things are NOT griefing, they are part of the game.

Griefing is the action of one or many players hunting you down specifically, to ruin your day, not you entering a hotspot and getting shot at for doing so, then repeating the whole process cuz you think "this time they won't get me".

You got the tools to evade, fight back or just work your way around such encounters, you have the informations available to you, you can either get better and fight back or evade, or go into another mode where this stuff doesn't happen.

FDev owes you nothing. They gave the community the tools to either kill another player or defend yourself.
Use them.

I arrived at WP1 in DW2 in open, immediately got interdicted and killed in my sitting duck Exploration/Mining build.
No chat with the player, no witty banter, just loss of all exploration data.

Since then I have about 50% record of returning to WP1 successfully in Open versus 100% in Solo.

I want to enjoy DW2 exploration, mining, goofing around with other players and this is being denied within WP1 system by PvP pirates

So to any of the PvP community, what do you get from killing a (admittedly) poor combat pilot in a weak build?

If you want a challenge, find another PvP pirate and have a go on something like equal terms, let the rest of us get on with it, maybe after coughing up some cargo...

Frontier, please change the game rules and make griefing bannable!

I would counter with the request to make PvP optional and consensual.

And I think the best way of doing that would be to give us an Open PvE option, so we can "opt-out" of PvP while still "opting in" to playing in an open world/galaxy with others.

Some will say this is what Mobius is, but having the choice "built-in" is so much better than having to search out and join a private group that relies on volunteers, and still can't keep out 100% of the griefers.

Fly Safe!

That's why there's law enforcement in the game. Griefers as you call them can't kill anyone with a clean status and not allied with any superpower without consequence. They get notoriety and therefore can't simply go and pay of any bounties issued against them. Anyone willing can hunt these people down and claim their bounty. On top of that there's law enforcement trying to track them down as well if the notoriety is high enough or they're scanned and found wanted. It's part of the game, intended game play. My advice would be to get used to it or stick to solo. If neither one of those options suit you, then you're better of not playing this game.

I love this. "Either enjoy getting waffle stomped in the face repeatedly or avoid the community entirely and be unable to make new friends" The "reasonable" response for PvP. Also: You can shrug off Notoriety by jumping to an empty system with a scoopable star and just letting the game idle for a little bit. Then come back and pay off the debt. I did this after accidentally ramming into two sidewinders in a Haz Res zone and getting bounties for their deaths. Finished off a few episodes of Jessica Jones, while re-adjusting flight path around a star to keep my fuel max.

All besides the point. The game has crime and punishment to punish anyone killing indiscriminately. How you deal with the notoriety and if the punishment is severe enough is an entirely different matter on its own. This doesn't change anything about the fact that killing everything in sight is a way of playing that is allowed within the confines of the game. Weather you like this or not.

No, the point I was making is that C&P is a joke and does nothing to dissuade d-bag trolls from being d-bag trolls. However, knowing that it will cost players a ton of time and credits does encourage them to be d-bag trolls.

Why is it that so many want the game to mete out punishment for them?

This game has become almost unrecognizable, and is a shadow of what it was prior to engineering.

Engineering is why PvP ships are absolute death machines.

They have to be.

Engineering is pretty easy now, but it creates massively OP ships. Now more than ever before.

Is there any good reason why we can engineer every aspect our ships to utter perfection?

Why isn't there a limit to how many engineered modules can be installed at any given time?

Was any thought put into how engineering would affect gameplay?

It seems unlikely.

It's a rabbit hole of bad decisions cascading into epic unbalanced failure.

Mass lock bug?

Meet my FSD reboot engineered Yuri Grom FSD reboot missile.

Now with double the reboot duration (they still suck... but they illustrate the point well).

Hello Eliteers

I think, Frontier should really consider changing the game rules. Griefing must become illegal and griefers must be banned from the game! Why? Because these players screw up any effort, other people put into the game! Distant Worlds 2 is the best example. I think, this project will fail if Frontier does not intervene! The griefers are ruling the WP2 system and make any effort of any ship impossible!
Is it that what you want Elite to be, Frontier? A game where stupid s screw up any effort, any great project, any community project? Is that your plan for Elite Dangerous? Really? I don`t think so!
Frontier - there is a good reason why griefing is forbidden in ANY other game! There is a good reason why griefers are banned in ANY other game! Because players turn their back on games where they are just griefed all the time!
It would be really really sad if Elite would die just because of that problem! All the effort during the Kickstarter Campaign! All the development efforts! Do you want to throw that away, Frontier?! I can`t believe that!
So PLEASE - BAN those players who don`t do anything else but destroy the experience of all the other players! BAN those players who destroy your game!
I am NOT talking about Pirates or Bounty Hunters - they are not griefers! But they do not kill just for fun, crash charity streams or make a great community project like Distant World 2 impossible.

And to those who say: "Just play Solo!":
OK....whenever I will get robbed or assaulted, I will quit my job and stay at home instead of calling the police. I can just stay at home - then I don`t risk being harmed again! Would you do that? I don`t think so! No - you would call the police to have the assaulter punished.
The same should apply to the game. It can`t be a solution to play Solo! The griefers are the ones who have to face consequences - not the regular players! The griefers are the ones who the game and destroy it - not the regular players! So the griefers should be kicked out of the game!

Greifers, or more accurately murder hobos, are a valid playstyle so long as they arent combat logging. there is a crime and punishment system in the game for a reason. if the "greifers" get caught/killed/detained they are forced to pay the rebuy costs of the players that they killed on top of their bounties.
according to your post murder hobos are greifers that should be banned.
youve said nothing about actual greifers that just combat log and have no skill.
You got wooped by some murder hobo and want to whine about it instead of just being more cautious in a game called "Elite Dangerous"
If the Dev's didnt want Open PvP they wouldnt have implimented it, and they wouldnt have implimented a crime and punishment system that affects murder hobo's as well.
