FSS. Fine but.... Restore discovery scanner please!

I would like to see the discovery scanner restored to its previous functionality. I don't think it directly clashes with the functionality if the FSS mode.
Why:-
1. It gives a quick overview of each system.
2. Most systems are boring and it makes determining this a simple process.
3. You get a basic map of the systems you have visited,. But no exploration data.
4. You only get a scan performed if you want it.
5. You do not get first discovered for any object automatically, you have to scan them separately.
6. This would not clash with the FSS mechanism as that replaces having to actually fly to each planet to scan it. (Not sure why stars are not included)
7. Travelling long distances can take weeks even if you are only in a system for under 2 minutes, after 1,000 jumps, you will have taken 33+ hours. That's real time!! FSS method to achieve the same would take at least 5 minutes per system. That's 2-3 times longer. No thanks!!
8. It provides a small income for each body in the system, which add up to a potentially large amount at end of the journey that justifies the time spent out in the black. With FSS scanned data, this would be a lot more!

So please FD can we have the old ADS functionality back? It can give an orbital plain if you like as well. 😏

Oh and also, the duel hud mode should go. It's a right pain.

Thanks.

I absolutely love the new discovery system. It gave it much needed depth.

Depth? It adds multiple extra keypresses and cursor movements to achieve what was achieved with one button press previously. It looks nice for sure... Depth of gameplay? eh, no.

I'm happy for you guys that are happy to have its but please for those of us that don't let us do it the efficient way :D

Let me stop you there.

It still does. Learn how to read the graph presented.

Look here!

Sorry let's face undeniable facts. Previously you got a complete system scan in one honk. Now you have to press multiple buttons and scrolling a cursor around for each individual body in the system.

The only way that can be a better idea is if you are happy to be pressing buttons and scrolling cursors and call it 'gameplay'. Which I accept a lot of you are.

I'm going to give it the attention it deserves. None.

I've no issue with the new features, I just would like the old ones to be retained. The discovery scanner and FSS need not clash. They do different jobs.

But then the main functionality of the FSS is to discover the positions and orbital plane to the bodies picked up by the honk. So explain to me how they couldn't possibly clash?

Effectively, unless you wish for the FSS to operate only as the surface scanner, then your idea effectively means you want the old system back in it's entirety, because the major aspect of the FSS is giving the player the means to source the bodies detected and actively view them. This is easy and takes moments. So I don't see the issue with it, myself.

Do you know of any games that aren't about pressing buttons and scrolling cursors?

It doesnt. The FSS can be for tracking down signals. It would become sometihng you used when you needed it rather than something foisted upon you when you just want to explore.

Ok if Cagman is correct about still having the system shown after honking I'm happy out. Won't be using the FSS mind, happy with what we had.

Nope, no more all-the-planets-and-moons-at-once. You get the star. You get a count. You look for/at the rest.
And I think there is gameplay in actually having to travel to a planet to scan it and claim first discovery or extra credits. Sitting a couple of LS from main star and not moving while having the data handed to you on a plate all in a few minutes is not playing the game.
The game is about flying a spaceship. Not running an observatory!

You do know most of the planets and systems are one red or brown dwarf and about 10 completely dull ice or rocky worlds you wouldn't ever waste the time in?

Restoring the D-scanner functionality, means you can eliminate the boring quickly and get on to a system worth the effort.

As for imementation of FSS, that's awful. It should have been an overlay on the cockpit hud system. That would have been a better mechanism.

Once you get used to it, the new scanner is better. If you honk the system you still get the same amount as before. Revealing the planets is the dss scan and it is so much faster. By factors of hundreds. I completely scanned a system of 107 bodies and it took 15 minutes.
If you want to find specific planet types, that's just as easy as before but it isnt a picture. My only complaint about that system though is that after tuning a frequency it doesn't show where that frequency is, so I have to look around the whole system.
