FSS introductory stuck

All user inputs become unresponsive when the FSS introductory shows up, I have seen a previous thread on this subject but answers were hardy useful.
No, mouse does not work, and, No keys do not have conflicts, I rebound them multiple times to be sure of it.
This is so frustrating as my career is based around the FSS, at this point I am so displeased that I am convinced KeenSoftwarehouse is probably more competent than Frontier.
I have had no help thus far and no solutions. ED has become unplayable because of a minor issue and Im not even certain if its a bug.

I have already filed a report to frontier regarding the issue.

When it happened to me, pressing the fire button on my joystick did the trick.

I don't understand. This is just a one-off "how it works" when you first use the FSS isn't it? If your "... career is based around the FSS ..." then you don't need this again. Is there some setting that causes it to appear every time you use the FSS?

The assignment to activate the "Next" button should be the same as your select key in the rest of the game - space bar and fire 1 (as @Codger says) by default.

If the tuning scale is red, use the main discovery scanner before going into FSS mode.

I have played ED before, and have sunk hours into it exploring and scanning with my FSS, I reinstalled it after a HDD reset which made the game show all the introductory screens again, this is when the issue stared.

Either way I fixed it, but I had to do a complete format of my HDD.
Also I had corrupt files and broken windows permissions which restricted ED`s permissions to access game files, hence the HDD format.

Well this sucks
having used the fss many, many, many times.. now the 1st time since the update..
i am stuck on the 1st page of the FSS "help" introduction..
I can not click next, i have pressed every key on the keyboard, and hotas.. still i am still stuck, and i am trying to farm materials via the..yea, the ... fss...

so stuck and cant do sfa....
if only FD had a next hint key(its not like they had this issue before..nooo) we had the exact same damne issue in the beta test.
It looks like it has resurfaced...
so what is the default key bind and name, so i can change it to skip this trash

naa, it locked the keyboard- it did diddly squat.. so only a ctrl alt del to kill the game solved the issue!

no problem found in my case...…………….
why a vet would even need to access the fss help section is beyond me and I found awsd move's cursor and spacebar or fire confirms selection whilst in fss help section
to all intent and puposes my mouse is disabled though.
so my conclusion is a device or bindings error on your part methinks

update, i ran a file verify and ran it- yes it locked the pc down
So i decided to delete the game and reinstall, checked the binding to mouse & kb, hopped into Sc and opened the FSS./. yep it locked the game, and disabled the keyboard, turned off the hotas, and rebooted the pc...
ran the game, into Sc then FSS.. it locked the game (all binding set to default in KB&M settings... so it appears server side)
exit game vids ctrl alt delete- kill the programme
Ran a verify file, all good, turned on hotas(powered usb hub for all my crap)
boot up the game, jump into SC, open FSS- game locked up.. cant exit it at all
Why does it even open the initial help menu at all (we had this in the beta test over 3 years ago.

what is going on.. yea i can drop into the nav beacon to scan. but explore- nope!
one of the weird bugs i suspect, along with the insanely beefed up scouts- 10 secs of running, = 22-25% damage to hull! its like OMFG i am fighting 4 hydras type of damage, and my ax cutter has over 4k of hull!
but it is the usual patch after blues- weird things happening!

I have spent several hours per night for the past few days out exploring in the Formidine Rift and have had absolutely no issues with the FSS whatsoever.

I think I had this pop up in FSS and was trying every key on keyboard, DS4 controller and mouse etc.............
Then found out that it was remaining only on the 'Next' button on the FSS 'Help Screen'. Also nearly rebooted then found you need to either click on the 'Close' button or move mouse to and click on 'Close' button.
Try 'Tab' on keyboard. EDIT doesn't work - see below.

I will check tonight when I get home.

Just tried it - you must have lost bindings after U15.
I use a PS4 DS4 controller on GeForceNow so I HAD to set up these to use FSS at all (Xbox controller ket in brackets)
Options
.Controls
..Ship Controls
...Full Spectrum System Scanner
.....Set up keys for - Discover Scan - DS4 X (Xbox = A)
..............................- Leave FSS - DS4 O (Xbox = B)
.....Set up keys for Zoom In, Zoom Out, etc.
.....remove the key binding for Show Help binding if you wan so that it NEVER goes into the FSS Help Screens.

Now, if you do get to the FSS Help Screen for some reason, you should be able to click or select the 'Close Button' otherwise scroll through the help screens using Next, Next, Next ....until it gets to last screen and then simply returns to the game.

sadly the show help always appear and locks the pc up, so i cant take it off the screen.. hence the re install, yes this is despite me being out to beagle point several times..i may have used it.. a lot... yet the help file think i need help.. okay..

so i have un bound all the keys (INC the help key)
the issue appear to be when i open the FSS, the help file opens automatically. and it locks the pc up, leave me to ctrl alt delete to kill the game, otherwise, nothing works :/
me and my mate are yapping on discord, and he is ok... i dunno why it is happening, not keyboard macros, etc

ISSUE solved
Apparently my icue software was corrupted, and only a cursory scan let me know something was up as it was seeing keyboard macros were incomplete... umm i didn't set any up..so a repair and test FSS has fixed it..
soo weird AF stuff happening...also a new pc- so it is weird af..
so if you use any extra software, do some test to see if it is 100%.....

Workaround!

I found a way to resolve this issue (as long as you don't mind skipping the FSS tutorial).

Open File Explorer.

Paste the following into the address bar and press Enter:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Player\

Look for Custom.4.0.misc and open it with your favorite text editor (Notepad, Notepad++, VSCode, gVim, etc.).
Inside the file, you’ll see an entry like this:

<HelpPopupViewedFSS value="0" />
```
Change the 0 to a 1, so it looks like this:
XML:
```
<HelpPopupViewedFSS value="1" />
```

This change tells Elite Dangerous that you’ve already completed the FSS tutorial, so it won’t prompt you again. For me, this resolved the issue, and the FSS worked fine afterward.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but this issue just happened to me! I couldn’t find any actual workarounds online until I went digging myself and discovered this solution. Most of what I found were threads like this one, asking how to fix the issue without providing a clear answer.

Hopefully, if this happens to someone else in the future, they’ll stumble upon this thread and find this post helpful.
