I have been running out of fuel a lot lately and having to self destruct with no way of getting more if there isn't a station in the system. It became apparent this was a major issue since there is literally nothing you can do without a fuel scoop and even those don't work in some systems. I got the idea that it would be neat if Fuel was a commodity and you could use it to refill a pip if it is in your hold. It would drive a player market for the stuff and people could go around checking systems for other players who are out of fuel. They might be able to pay with something else from their cargo. This would also be nice because you could ask friends to bring you some if you find yourself stuck.
