Newcomer / Intro Fuel usage - ship, while you're in SRV

When you dismiss your ship, does it continue to use fuel?
If your ship is landed (but nearby, not dismissed), and you're in your SRV, does the ship continue to burn fuel?

Welcome, cmdr.
No, no fuel is consumed while it's landed or dismissed. Especially when it's dismissed, it doesn't "exist", so it can't be damaged or consume fuel.

Thanks - what's the rationale of a ship not consuming fuel when it's landed and present, but not when you're in it, and then starting to consume fuel once you board it (even if you don't switch any modules on or off??) or is it just lazy programming?

Does your SRV still consume fuel when you disembark from it and go hunting around settlements etc?

My rationale for that is that the little automation that is on the ship* shuts stuff down as you exit and switches it back when you board.

*Responsible for takeoffs when the ship is dismissed and finding inconvenient places to land when recalled, in fact as I remember it the settings of things like PIPs and possibly powered modules changed when the ship was dismissed and recalled leading to some upset commanders.

Neither ship nor SRV use fuel when the game is closed, so why not have the same treatment when the ship is not present?

P.S. I know the SRV used fuel when I spent ages wandering about a settlement back when EDO launched - it gave me the 50% warning when I re-entered it. Maybe if I had parked it further away it would not have been in the "instance" and not used fuel?

At the moment I'm having to leave the game open for reasons - there are things from time-lapse video to being involved in multiplayer streams that require it (and notoriety cooldowns)...
I'm trying to work out the most fuel efficient way of doing it though. Parking it up on a surface pad and going into a settlement building with atmosphere might be best, but I'm miles (meaning thousands of light years) from civilisation.

If you really need to leave the game running, I think the best way is to be in your ship, either in normal space or landed on a planet, and disable all modules except life support. SRV runs out of fuel much faster than the ship. And about the srv, unless you're about to enter a fight, you'd better disable the shield, as it doesn't protect from crashes, only weapons.
