GALNET - 24 NOV 3306 - Core Dynamics Bids to Purchase Lakon Spaceways

Lakon should get merged. They make junk anyone with a redneck shipyard and some scrap metal can put together.

The game needs new manufacturers not less though. Manufacturers who dont have some kind of Earth-Centric naming scheme and wedge-iphilia complex.

I want to see some hybrid ships that are using thargoid organic ship tech. That heal hull damage over time, but require certain kinds of "food" to do so. Shaped more like animals than triangle-nostalgiaporn. With connections to their particular part of space that the manufacturer started in with deep ties to the local culture there rather than always something mid-20th century Earth-ish. Maybe even limited to synthing parts in order to purchase them (including rebuys) to make it interesting.

I want to see manufacturers that basically aftermarket existing ships into significantly altered versions of them. So that variants can exist without ruining the lore and believability of how manufacturers would create such variants. This would be where things such as "racer" variants would come from, or variants that go with a totally different internal look and maybe altered hardpoint locations and internal fitment while remaining outwardly the same. Then we can eliminate engineers in their current incarnation so they behave like they should (one off modifiers that are gone if your ship is blown up and those mods dont do magic arcadey crap)

There needs to be CG to save the company, a lot of us alliance citizens depend on Lakon.
Should be an interesting social experiment at least: Does the Fed bias also apply when it is not Fednecks v Empire but Fednecks v Alliance?

Cant we somehow turn it into an anti-Imp CG just to annoy the Imps?

Real Answer - Alliance turnout the same, Fed turnout the same, Imp turnout the same = close run CG between Feds & Alliance, Imps wont turn up til day 3 or 4 and then complain its all over and they cant win. But we will chug on and never accept defeat, but it probably will be. Feds are the people who like Combat. Alliance will be having too much fun in the chat to fight, we prefer haulage where we can gossip and make stuff up.

Why couldn't they acquire DeLacy instead? Then they could make their cockpits not look like trash.

That said, I'll still defend the designs of the keelback and alliance ships. I work in the consumer products industry, you don't design a whole product from scratch quickly. I like how the Alliance ships appear to be made from Diamondback and type-6 parts, since that'd make sense to take advantage of their existing manufacturing infrastructure. And you certainly can't fault the Chieftain's performance.

Accompanied by another concurrent experiment: If the Feds fight the Alliance, will the Imps still be the ones who complain the most?

😜

In my naivety I thought that was what the Engineers would do. Id turn up and say 'Give me an SLF on the Python' and they'd say 'OK, but youre gonna lose a Weapon Slot and a Module slot to make room for it' or whatever reason, and I could choose and my ship would be more individual for what I wanted it to do. 'Swop that Hardpoint out for an extra scanner, Im going exploring, Ill take the risk' etc etc Hell to balance Im sure but Id have loved that option even if could only downgrade and lose JR or speed or integrity or something overall.

Panther is Zorgon Peterson if I remember right.

Maybe this huge merge of these companies will lead to them also buying rights of the ship designs from other manufactors, or develope better model named bit different?

Anyways, I think I can already hear Panther Clipper crushing the mail box at the station trying to brute force itself in, and also, cries of new Sidewinter pilots trying to go other way from the slot at the same time ("But I had the green light on my side!")....

There is precedent for mixed ship manufacturers- FDLs in the description (maybe changed now) had versions built by ZP and customized by another manufacturer.

I'll be donning my green jacket if and when that day comes. (y)
